Divorce.

I don't want to waste your time by beating around the bush, so I'll just go straight to the point. This is a divorce paper and I'd like for you to sign it without any drama."

These words from Stanley shattered Darling inside out that she almost lost her balance and he didn't even make any move to hold her in case she might fall.

Colour drained from her face and her eyes widened from another shock, this felt like a hard and heartless slap on her face.

Why was he suddenly asking for a divorce after three years of marriage? Though his family never liked her and she also noticed the little emptiness between them and she worked hard hoping that things would somehow work out between them one day.

But a divorce? Why?

The tears that seemed to have taken a short pause resumed and they started rolling down her white cheeks that lacked colour.

She shook her head, hoping this was some kind of joke but the look on Stanley's face says it all.

He despised her so much and was now letting it known, how had she not seen this?

She tried to hold his hands but he quickly swatted it away and said, "Are you going to sign this or should I make you?"

Darling closed her eyes tightly to get rid of the tears that blurred her vision and she responded, "Can you at least tell me why? I deserve to know."

Stanley chuckled coldly and tucked his empty hands into his pocket and said, "You really want to know? Well you are not meant for me, you are too poor for me and haven't benefited me in any way. All you do is milk me dry and feel entitled around my own house and do whatever you want. I'm done and I've never liked you from the beginning, I just thought you were useful turns out I was wrong."

His words were harsh, so harsh and hurtful that Darling couldn't even shed any more tears. She sniffled, her face holding a frown.

"I haven't benefited you? I cook and clean around here, I'm like a slave more than I am a wife. Your family always mistreat me and you do nothing!" Said Darling, her voice crackling and not sounding as courageous as she would have wished for it to sound.

"Now you want to blame my family and bring them into this? You will never agree you are at fault and own up to it and that's why I'm done. Sign this paper and take your wretched self somewhere else, and I'm sure no man would want to marry a poor divorcee like you."

As he said those words, Darling looked into his eyes and all she could see was a different person, a devil who had disguised as an angel to marry her hoping to get something in return.

And his words, they were so hurtful and demeaning that Darling had to question herself if he was even worth her.

Her tears dried up and the painful sad look in her eyes vanished to be replaced by anger and hatred.

And to Stanley's surprise, Darling snatched the paper from him and she picked up a pen from her vanity table and scribbled her signature on every single place it was needed without even bothering to read them.

Stanley frowned at her sudden behaviour and change of demeanour. Why did she stop crying and begging? She should be begging him.

"Listen, I can always give you a second chance if you want, all you need to do is simply go on your knees and beg me and I might consider forgiving you," Stanley said with so much pride and ego, hating the way Darling was just signing the document, she should at least be in tears while signing them.

But Darling ignored him, his words making her so angry that she clenched the pen and paper to the extent that they could damage.

She finished signing it and handed the papers to him. Her face was as blank as a plain sheet, no expression and she looked straight at him.

But instead of collecting the papers, Stanley simply stared at her with his hands akimbo, a look of disbelief marred his face. He then pointed at her and said,

"So this is your true colour, you have been silently waiting for this day to come while keeping up with your pretentious act of being a good woman. I should have known, you are a snake, Darling!"

Stanley was in a rage, his ego was hurt that she wouldn't cry and beg him like how he had hoped. But Darling ignored him and went to her wardrobe to pack her things, she wanted to leave this place as quickly as possible.

"What are you doing?" Stanley asked, confusion and disbelief evident in his face. He failed to accept the fact that his wife was happily leaving him without begging.

But Darling ignored him yet again, she simply carried on with what she was doing while sniffing at intervals and wiping her face with the back of her hand.

"It seems you are so full of yourself that you don't realize you have nowhere to go, I'm your only hope and saviour and all you need to do is beg." Stanley wasn't giving up but yet again got ignored.

"Ahh, I see. So you have been cheating? You have a man you would run to because you have been cheating and that's why you are this cocky. Shame on you, you don't let me fuck you yet you go about fucking other men."

And this was more than enough to make Darling stop whatever she was doing and she stood up straight and turned to face Stanley.

"You really are something," she said, "Firstly, I'd like for you to stop speaking to me, I've signed the divorce papers like you asked, so please leave and allow me to pack in peace. And I don't care what you think about me, you can just go to hell." Darling said hatred from nowhere was what she now felt towards this man whom she thought loved her.

She then continued what she was doing but even with the warning, Stanley didn't give up and kept throwing demeaning words towards her.

A few minutes went by and she was done, without wasting any more time, she left the house and left Stanley's life for good.
