Her Husband.

Everyone present raised their heads from their food and turned to look at Mary, wondering what made her suddenly say those words.

However, Darling already had an idea of what her mother-in-law, Mary was going to say.

"What is this rubbish?" Mary asked again, her sharp eyes glaring hard at Darling as if she would rip Darling's head off any moment.

Darling just sat there staring and didn't know what to say or do, it wasn't like she could do anything to begin with.

"When have we ever eaten mushrooms for breakfast in this house? Chicken tacos? You mean to tell me you used the chicken I kept to prepare this nonsense? Do you know how expensive groceries are? Yet you prepared all of this garbage for breakfast, now what's your explanation?" Mary asked and all heads turned to face Darling, waiting for her response.

Darling looked at each pair of eyes that stared at her, they all screamed disapproval and disgust towards her. She then stared back at Mary and said,

"I decided to prepare this because I thought we should eat something different for breakfast."

"You good for nothing, how dare you?! You don't even have a proper job to support this family, yet all you do is waste our food like you own it." Said Mary while profusely tapping on the table.

Mary had never liked Darling, she hated that her son married a good-for-nothing from a poor wretched background who couldn't contribute anything to their middle-class family.

Mary had always dreamed and prayed for the day her son would marry a rich heiress that would change their lives forever but he instead brought this poor thing as a wife, she slammed the table with her hard palm and stood up and left.

Seeing how angry her mother was, Stella also stood up and ran after her mother but not after sending a glare at Darling.

Her father-in-law, Sir Bob was the only person who remained in the dining, he sat there and ate his breakfast without even caring about Darling's presence and Darling wasn't even sure how to feel about it.

She blinked profusely a couple of times to drive away the tears that welled up in her eyes while biting hard on her lower lips to stop herself from sniffing.

They should have at least appreciated her effort to make them breakfast, there wasn't any need to be so heartless.

Darling had now lost her appetite, who wouldn't? After being ridiculed for the harmless effort you made to see everyone have their breakfast, who would still have their appetite?

But she ate anyway, if no one would appreciate her cooking, she would have to do it herself.

After making sure she finished every bit of her food, she left for her room while Sir Bob was still having his own breakfast.

She locked her door and laid on her bed, feeling so down. She thought she was used to this type of treatment but the truth was she wasn't.

She was never treated right in this household and they never missed the chance to tell her how she didn't deserve Stanley and was just a burden to the family.

She rose from the bed and looked outside through her window, it was a beautiful scene and the sun shone brightly up in the sky.

Darling remembered when Mary talked about how she didn't have a proper job but wouldn't let her leave the house in the first place.

According to Mary, there wasn't any need for her to leave the house if she wasn't doing anything productive. Mary said she deserved to remain in this house and do all the chores and cleaning like a wife should.

A sad smile graced Darling's lips as she recalled every demeaning word Mary would say to her almost every day.

She slowly sat down on the bed and was ready to lay on it when the door was forcefully pushed open.

A startled Darling gasped and her head turned towards the direction of the door and there stood Stanley, her husband. The only person who truly cared for her in this hell of a house.

Just the sight of him was more than enough to make Darling's strong walls shatter and the tears she had been holding in rolled down her cheeks relentlessly.

She stood up from the bed and walked towards Stanley with her arms wide open for a consoling hug which was all she needed right now.

However, what Stanley did next shocked Darling so that even the tears that ran down her cheeks stopped for a moment.

Darling didn't receive the hug she thought she would get, instead she received a cold look and before she could wrap her hands around Stanley, he stopped her by placing his hands in between them.

He grabbed her by her arms, the same very place Stella had held and dragged her into the room and shut the door.

The couple stood before each other staring at themselves, one with a cold disgusted look while the other with a shocked surprised and pained look with her face wet from all the tears and her eyes watery.

Darling was so surprised that no words could come out of her mouth. Why was he suddenly acting this way towards her?

"Stanley..." She said with a low shaky voice only to be cut short by a single hand gesture from Stanley and her words faded away.

Stanley looked down at her, no emotions in his eyes whatsoever. He never really liked her in the first place and saw no need to keep pretending.

He lifted the briefcase that had been in his hands and brought out a paper and raised it to Darling's eye length, he then said,

"I don't want to waste your time by beating around the bush, so I'll just go straight to the point. This is a divorce paper and I'd like for you to sign it without any drama."
