After dinner, I didn’t hesitate.

I went straight to the pack leader’s parents, who were sipping their tea.

“Father, Mother,” I said, getting right to the point. “The Enforcers contacted me today. They said it’s been three years since Derek went missing.

According to pack law, he can be officially declared dead and his name can be struck from the family records for good. They asked when I want to handle the paperwork.”

As I said it, I have to admit, my heart was pounding a little.

He was, after all, their only son. The child they had poured all their love and hopes into.

What if they were still holding on to some fantasy? What if their hearts had gone soft?
