Chapter 2

(Emily's POV)

I woke up to a voice, a deep harsh voice. I felt my both hands tied behind me and I can't see a thing as I was blindfolded. But, I don't recognize his voice. By the sound of it, we were in a car. I tried moving around as I must be laying in the back seat. I struggled to free myself but it was no use. These ropes were too strong. Then suddenly, the car stopped.

"I see you're awake." a deep and hoarse voice makes my whole body freeze in my seat.

I heard the door of the car open and someone touch me as I was dragged out and pushed against the car. I struggled to escape from him but his grip just got stronger on my shoulder making me groan in pain.

"Take it easy, I won't hurt you unless I have to."

I tried to hold back my tears. What did he want? What did I do? First the hospital, then my apartment, and now this? What did I do wrong to these men?

"P-please... l-let me go." All I heard was a deep sigh. After a few minutes of silence as his hand still pinning me against the car, we heard another car coming. I felt it stop near us. Then I heard another voice.

"Is that her?" someone asked. It was a man.

"Yes. Put her in the back seat." my kidnapper in front of me answered.

Suddenly, I was lifted over his shoulder, and now I'm facing maybe his back and carried me to the other car. He fastened my seatbelt and was uncomfortably close. "For your own good, stay quiet," he whispered. I just nodded multiple times. For my own sake, I should obey them.

The car's engine started and we were back on the paved road. I heard them talking quietly in the front seat but was too scared to understand anything. I felt the car go faster as I held my breath.

"Emily." I gasped when someone called my name. How did they know my name? "That's your name right?" The other man asked.

"Y-yes." I nearly whispered.

"Stop talking to her." the man said in a cold tone.

"I'm just starting a conversation."

"Well don't, we need her focused. And after earlier's mess, we can't risk any more deaths."

Deaths? Was this about earlier? Oh no, they are probably gonna kill me. I tried untying myself again but it was no use. I tried to be as discreet as I could, being careful, hoping they do not notice my own battle with the rope in the backseat. God! these ropes are so damn tight!

"Stop struggling. It's not gonna work."

I stop my hand in a trance as my whole body froze in fear. Shit. I felt a sudden lost of chance to escape and gave up on the ropes, I'm scared that they might shoot me if I do that again. After what I think was two hours, the car abruptly stopped. The two men got out of the car and left me there. I tried untying my hands again and yet again, it did not work. Then, the car door next to me opened.

"Trying again are we?" The man laughed. He grabbed my arm and pulled me out of the car. The cold wind blew itself over my bare skin as we started walking to nowhere. The ground was uneven. We must be outside the city, far outside. "Steps," he informed me. I walked up the steps, trying to not trip and fall. After seconds on the stairs, a door opened in front of me and we walked inside. I have been led up some more stairs and thrown into a room.

"She's here."

The man took my blindfold off. I was standing in a dark bedroom with big windows and dark curtains. Everything is dark inside the room. He then untied my hands. What a relief!

"You see this man?" He pointed at a man laying on the bed. Wait... he is the injured man at the hospital. Two other guys were standing beside the bed. "Y..yes..."

"Your job is to save him."

I turned my head to him. "W-What?!"

"You heard me, save him. If he dies, I'll kill you," he said while glaring at me intently.

I took a step back. "As I told you, I'm just a nurse. I can't save him. He needs to go to a hospital." He took out a gun and pointed it at me. I took another step back. Fighting my tears to fall.

"Save him," he said. Then they all walked out and left me there with the injured man.

"Oh! this can't be happening! this can't be happening." I started panicking. The man moved a little bit and let out a grunt. Okay, I just need to save this man. That's all, if I don't... they'll kill me.

I noticed some medical equipment on a table nearby. I walked over there and grabbed some bandages, scissors, and alcohol. A part of me wanted to chug the bottle and die right there.

I went over to the injured man and took off his covers to see the wound. I gasped when I saw the big scattered wound just above his left hip. He also had a gunshot wound on his left shoulder. It was badly bandaged.

I started cleaning his nasty wound above the hip. My hands were shaking the whole time. Dirt had gotten into it and his skin was all torn and bleeding. "What the hell happened to you," I said irritated.

After stitching him up and cleaning everything, I sat on a chair beside the bed and just watched him. Wondering who this man was. Then there was a knock on the door and a leather jacket guy walked in.

"Are you done?" He asked.

"I think so.. but again. I'm not a doctor."

He walked towards me and took a look at the man and his wounds.

"Alright, he seems stable." I just nodded.

He took out his phone and called someone. I didn't listen to it, I couldn't. I didn't want to know anything or hear. I just wanted to go home. After a minute, he hung up. "Let me take you to your room" he informed me.

"My what?" my eyes widened in surprise.

"Your room." He blandly said as his eyes were fixed on the patient behind me.

"But I did what you asked, why can't you let me go?!" I almost pleaded.

"I told you to save him, and so far your job is only half done." with that being said, he grabbed my arm and dragged me out of the room.

I was thrown into another bedroom, similar to the one before. It had a bed, nightstand, closet, and a plant on a table. I was more interested in the windows though.

"I don't recommend the windows. One guy broke his legs trying to escape through there." I didn't answer him until he left the room.

It was getting late, almost 2:00 am. I tried sleeping but it was no use. I only did what I could and that was looking through the window, fantasizing about my freedom. The moon was unbelievably beautiful this night. Then someone walked in, a man I did not recognize.

"You're needed again," he said emotionless.

I knew that voice, this was the other guy from the car. Weird, I didn't take him for a redhead. We walked out of the room and entered another room. My kidnapper was standing there with two other guys beside the couch.

"Sir, this is the woman that saved the traitor." one guy said. I was pushed near the couch so he could see me.

The man on the couch looked at me. His eyes were breathtaking. I've never seen such blue eyes before. He stared at me. "What's your name?" He asked.

"E-Emily" I stuttered as I avoided his firm gaze.

"Full name." he firmly asked with his deep voice.

"L-Lewis... E-Emily Lewis."

"Are you a doctor?" he asked causing me to look straight at his crystal blue eyes.

"N-no, a nurse."

He looked at the men standing beside him. I felt like he wanted me to leave. Suddenly, he stood up from his chair, exposing his upper naked body to me. I looked away abruptly.

"W-hat do you still w-want?" I dared ask. He didn't reply he just stared into my eyes for a second before he took a step closer to me. I step back in fear but someone stopped me from behind.

"Leave us," he said and all the men left the room. Leaving me alone with this unknown man in this dark room.

"Can I go? I already treated him." I asked, still not looking at him, avoiding his gaze. He took a step closer to my position and that makes my whole body freeze.

"Emily, right?" I nodded slowly.

"I understand you came here against your will. But you saw me, in that street." I looked at him wearing a 'what do you mean' look all over my face. "You saw me killing that man." my eyes widened as a flash of memory from earlier where a man shot a gun at a man laying on the floor. Was he the killer?

"I... I swear! I didn't see anything. I just only heard a gunshot and I run in fear, that's it! Nothing else. I didn't see you pointing a gun--" Shit!

A greasy lime of ill-humored contempt played with the corner of his lips which makes me shiver in fear. I hate my mouth.

"See? You already know that it's me." a chuckle let out from his mouth.

"B-because... Because you said it yourself!" I yelled at him making him stop grinning like crazy. His face became more serious as he glared at me full of rage. I covered my mouth with my both palms. I didn't do that on purpose to raise my voice.

"You shouldn't have seen that, right?" I closed my eyes as a tear fell from my eyes making me more scared than it was.

What should I do to make him believe that I won't tell anyone? A lot of thoughts pass through my mind to come up with reasons for him to let me go. Suddenly, he walk to the table and opened one of the drawers as he take something out. A gun. I gasp as he pointed it in my direction.

I started to let out a whimper as my tears started to flow down my cheek spontaneously. My heart is raging beats as it won't stop spreading tremble all over my body. My heart rate increased and flushed my face as I breathed faster than usual.

"P-please... d-don't k-kill me. I... I am b-begging y-you, p-please." I said in a trembling hoarse voice. I kneel on the cemented black-painted floor while putting my hands together to beg him for my life.

He didn't say a thing and just stood while leaning on his table half naked with his gun loaded and pointed at me.

I firmly closed my eyes while kneeling as I lowered my head to the floor. I put a tight grip on the floor while waiting for my death. I guess this is the end of me. He is a mafia, and everyone in a mafia world is as ruthless as a devil.

My tears can't stop falling tremendously while waiting for him to pull the trigger as I silently pray that someone will help me in this situation. I hope this is only a nightmare, I hope this is not real, I hope...

A knock from the door makes me open my eyes as I let out heaving breathing. I stared at his shoes striding towards my direction until he passes me to reach the door opened. I wipe my runny nose, tears, and sweat all over my face using my arms and hands. But still, my tears won't stop escaping from my eyes. After a couple of minutes. The boss speaks in his deep voice.

"Take her to her room." I suddenly turned my head behind me, seeing the boss holding a paper with the two men who take me earlier in a car.

The two men both nodded as they strode towards my direction and lifted my arms to pull me up from kneeling on the floor. I wipe my both cheeks with my palms as I stared at the boss who glared at me intently before he strode outside the room. I felt a bit of relief when his figure is slowly fade away from my sight, I guess they are giving me a chance.

The two men take me back to my room and chained my leg. When the door closes as they are gone, I slumped into the bed as I leaned forward, placed my head in my hands, and sobbed continuously. Huge body-shaking sobs racked my body, each coming in a wave, and, with every sob, I let out a low whimper, trying to not be noticed by the men outside. What I had done to my life to be in this situation?
