“She’s so young!” someone exclaimed in disbelief. “Is she even thirty?”

Another replied,

“I heard she’s only twenty-six.”

“How is that possible?”

Everyone was astonished.

Someone else said,

“Why not? Don’t let her young age fool you. I heard she has a doctorate.”

Vivian Parker asked incredulously,

“You’ve never heard of Dr. Wright?”

Everyone looked at her in confusion. None of them had heard that name before.

Vivian rolled her eyes.

“Look her up online, you bunch of ignorant people.”

Someone replied,

“I did, but there are no pictures of her... Just information about her.”

Vivian left them and hurried to Elena’s office.

She knocked on the door and waited until Elena allowed her to enter.

With a bright smile and unmistakable admiration in her eyes, she said,

“Hello, Dr. Wright. I’m Vivian Parker, a resident doctor. The director asked me to be your assistant. If you need anything, please let me know.”

Elena had been Vivian’s role model for years.

She had heard that Elena was a prodigy who had skipped several academic levels and earned her doctorate at the age of twenty-two.

Many people dreamed of getting the opportunity to work alongside someone as brilliant as her.

But Elena had no idea what was going through Vivian’s mind, nor did she have time to guess.

“Thank you,” she simply said.

Vivian replied enthusiastically,

“You don’t have to thank me at all.”

Elena then said,

“All right. Could you bring me all the medical records from the neurosurgery department for the past two years? Also, bring me the files of all patients currently waiting for neurosurgical procedures.”

Since she was new to the hospital, she needed to familiarize herself with everything as quickly as possible.

She raised her head from the paperwork and asked,

“Will that be a problem?”

Vivian immediately replied,

“No, not at all. I’ll take care of it right away.”

Throughout the morning, Elena was immersed in reviewing the medical records.

Meanwhile, Vivian brought her lunch, worried about her health.

Elena ate while reviewing the files at the same time.

Finally, Vivian asked,

“Dr. Wright, do you always work like this?”

Elena looked at her.

“What do you mean?”

“I mean, you get so busy that you forget to eat.”

Elena smiled indifferently.

“It’s not a big deal.”

“But that’s not good for your health...”

Vivian said worriedly,

Before she could finish, the sound of an ambulance siren echoed outside.

Elena frowned.

“Go and check on the patient. See if they need any help.”

“Right away.”

Less than five minutes later, Vivian rushed back into the office, gasping for breath.

“Dr. Wright, please come with me quickly. The patient is in extremely critical condition.”

The moment Vivian finished speaking, Elena walked out of her office.

Soon, they arrived together at the emergency department.

The department was surrounded by a large crowd, while cries and sobs filled the air.

“Doctor, please save my husband! He’s only forty-five years old! What am I going to do if I lose him?”

One of the doctors tried to calm her.

“Please, calm down. We’re examining your husband now. We need to wait for the test results to determine his condition accurately.”

Vivian grabbed Elena’s hand and pushed her way through the crowd, shouting,

“Move aside! The doctor is here!”

The patient’s family members stepped aside, allowing Elena to enter the emergency department.

She immediately asked,

“What happened?”

After noticing the badge indicating that she was the deputy head of the neurosurgery department, the emergency physician replied,

“A traffic accident. He has bleeding in the brain. We’re still assessing the extent of the hemorrhage, but the situation doesn’t look good.”

At that moment, a nurse called out,

“The head CT scan results are ready.”

She handed the report to the doctor.

The doctor examined it and frowned.

“The injury is severe. There’s extensive bleeding, and increased intracranial pressure has caused a brain herniation. He needs surgery immediately.”

Elena glanced at the report and nodded.

“Prepare the operating room.”

The doctor hesitated.

“But... our hospital isn’t equipped to perform this kind of surgery.”

Brain surgery was not something just any surgeon could perform.

He added,

“We should transfer him to a larger hospital.”

But Elena said firmly,

“The brain herniation is compressing the respiratory center. If we don’t intervene within half an hour, he’ll die. Do you really think we have time to transfer him?”

The doctor frowned helplessly.

“But we have no other choice. We don’t have a surgeon capable of performing this operation.”

Without hesitation, Elena said,

“I’ll do it.”
