I found myself in a dark place like the dream I had last time and this time I was all alone, no voices of people around me, the darkness was so quiet, not terrifying like the first one and I looked around and there was the light that I saw in my first dream. This one felt too real, like I departed my own body and went somewhere where humans don’t know, something like astral projections. Deep down inside of me there was so much peace and no fights at all.
I walked towards the light; as I was walking, pictures of everyone I knew appeared and they surrounded me like people were at the place that I was in and they were looking for some help. The silence still continued but the pictures followed me as I was still walking towards the light and at a certain point, the pictures disappeared. I got to the light; the strange lady appeared to be seating in that light like she was in the first dream that I had. I realized that it was her and I went closer, this time I was less terrified and it seemed like I wasn’t in a fight like the first dream that I had but the strange lady seemed like she was expecting me.
“Hello” I went even closer to her.
“Take a seat” the strange lady said with her weird creepy voice.
Immediately after she said that, the darkness disappeared and then we were in a room which looked like a kitchen of some sort, it looked like it was owned by an old woman. I tried looking for the strange lady’s face but her face was always covered by a cloth the only thig which appeared were the eyes.
“Where am I?” I searched the place with my eyes.
“You are in a place where only the privileged go” she replied with her creepy voice.
“I’ve seen you somewhere, but in different occasions” I said as I got up from the chair.
The strange lady never dared to reveal her face through out the conversation, this felt so real like I left my body and I was somewhere else.
“I have been sent on a quest, a quest to help you remember who you are and the quest to give you your peace back” she said.
“What? I mean I don’t even know myself” I went back to the chair I was sitting on.
“Since you were a young child, you never had a chance to be happy with those around you. You grew up alone, your parents sent you away and at some point, you never knew who your mom was” she said.
“How do you know all that?” I gave her my undivided attention.
“At some point you were always being discredited for being who you are” she ignored my question “Life was unfair to you, that’s how you felt. When you were old enough to understand your situation, you isolated yourself from family not because you hated them but because they’ve always misjudged you” she added.
“You are angry and full of resentment, because those who were responsible for building your confidence actually broke it” she said.
I felt anger coming over me like a stray jacket that psychiatric hospitals put on people who are mentally unstable and uncontrollable. I couldn’t move or get over it, this time this anger and resentment didn’t come from inside me but it was just holding me tight and I couldn’t move and inch on my body.
“Yeah, you can feel it don’t you?” she said as I tried to free myself “That is what anger does, right now you don’t know yourself. It’s like your identity has been erased and everything you stand for has been deleted” she continued.
The anger and resentment let me go and we appeared in this white room with nothing it and everything was so white. The was nothing there, not even a door, it was just me and the strange lady standing at the center of the room, the strange lady was holding a bucket of red paint, she put the paint down.
“When you are a baby, your mind is like this. It is like a coloring book waiting for a child to come and start using crayons to give it color” she continued to explain as I kept quiet.
“The people around you are the children holding crayons. Your parents gave you anger and resentment” she said.
A picture of a man and a woman appeared and I couldn’t recognize them.
“Your brother came and gave you betrayal” she continued to say.
And another picture appeared but this time it was a picture guy almost the same age as me.
The strange lady continued doing what she was doing like she was prophesying my life or something. And so many pictures appeared, pictures of people I didn’t recognize or know.
“And then you meet those who lie to you” as she said that Cindy’s picture appeared. I asked myself how Cindy was lying to me.
“And those who love you but have too many secrets that they cannot have peace with you because some people are holding them against their will” Charlotte’s picture appeared next to Cindy’s picture.
I stood beside her thinking to myself ‘why me?’
“If not you, then who?” the strange lady replied my thoughts.
“How did you…” I said but she interrupted me with a wave of her hand.
“You wouldn’t be the person if your parents didn’t abandon you, if your family took you serious and everything you did was valued as much as you wanted it to be, you’d be arrogant right now. If so, many girls didn’t reject you, you wouldn’t know the type of a girl that deserves you” she said.
“But I don’t know myself” I replied.
“You do, you just have to fight to remember” she said.
I stared at the pictures that were appearing as she spoke.
“Why are you showing me all this?” I asked.
“Everyone that you see here, is the reason you are who you are. These are the people who held the crayons and filled your mind with beautiful memories, rage and anger, rejection and low self-esteem” she explained.
I remained silent trying to make sense of everything she was saying. I never understood what was going on because I was with the strange lady in that strange place and I was in flesh but at the same time it felt like I left my own body somewhere.
“I know you’re confused” she waved her hand and we were back at the kitchen “I know that you’re asking yourself, who you are and where you are right now” she said.
I was still in silence not knowing what to think.
“I also know that you don’t know what to think, but this is you getting a second chance and I am going to ask you to use it wisely” she continued to say.
“Just tell me what I’m supposed to do” I pleaded with her.
“Your answers are close to home; your solution is close to home and your identity is close to home. You just have to look close” she said.
“But I…” I couldn’t finish my sentence because the strange lady had already disappeared.
Immediately after the strange lady disappeared, the kitchen also disappeared then I was left in the dark once again. As I was looking around trying to figure out what was happening, something like violent wind took me then I felt like I was falling from the sky and it felt I was going a long way down and I was still in the darkness. The I came to a point where I stopped falling, became calm and then began to hear machines beeping and people talking.
10 months later…I heard beeping sounds and people talking, I slowly opened my eyes and beside me was Charlotte who seemed to be very excited to see me opening my eyes, she rushed to the door.“Nurse!” she yelled and yelled.I tried getting up, my body was sour and I couldn’t lift myself up, the nurse got into the ward and made me settle on the bed.“Relax” the nurse said to me.I looked around and turns out that I was in the hospital and this one wasn’t a dream, it actually felt like I just woke up from one weird dream in the morning. I glanced at Charlotte. My body was so sour and I had a slight headache, the nurse gave a glass of water but noticing that I was struggling a little bit, she helped me to drink that water.“How long have I been here?” I asked Charlotte.“10 months, I’ve got great news for” Charlotte said. The nurse fixed my pillow.&l
The following morning…‘I survived the first gun shot and then these guys came out looking to finish up what they started and I miraculously escaped. I really have to be one lucky bustard’ I thought to myself. As I was in deep thought, there was a knock on the door.“Come in” I said.Christine walked into the room.“Hey, how you feeling?” she asked as she closed the door behind her.“I’m better” I said as I sat up on the bed.“Okay, I’ll be out for a few hours and uhm I will send my neighbor’s son to come check up on you” she said. The fact that she was living the house and they previous day we were dodging bullets didn’t sit well with me, I felt like she was putting life in danger since everybody who got involved with me had possibilities of catching a bullet or two and this time I had to be concerned.“Are you sure that you
1 month later…Christine treated me so good, mainly similar to how Charlotte treated me when she found me at her door step, Christine’s humanity was way out of this world. Johnny and Sophie kept me company all the time Christine left the house, we became close to the point where they were more than just friends to me but family. It felt like I ended up with Christine for a reason or a specific purpose. Since Johnny and Sophie couldn’t go to school because of the so-called tax, I decided to home school them. Johnny was more interested in computers so I borrowed Christine’s computer then downloaded coding tutorials and coding apps for him. Sophie was a different one, the different kind of a girl who loved competitive sport, I looked for a local football club online and applied for her.The application was successful but first Sophie had to undergo trials before she could officially be part of the team. So, the day came when we had to accompany he
The next morning…Still worried about what happened the previous night and what was it that the counselor held this neighborhood by, I woke up early in the morning fixing the broken window. Christine came looking for me.“Oh, I checked in your room and you weren’t there” she said.“How did you sleep?” I asked.“With one eye open” she sighed.I understood what she meant by that; I also didn’t sleep because of the counselor’s guys. I kept on feeling like they were going to come back again. Deep down I still felt that I needed to do something about this counselor and I had to come up with a solution that was going to make him back off.“Can I make you tea?” she asked.“please” I replied. She went back to the house as I followed her.“Hey so what are you doing today?” Christine asked.“I promised to assist Johnny wit
In the morning, I woke up to a knock on the door.“Come in” I said.Christine opened the door as she entered the room.“Morning” I greeted her.“Morning, uhm can you please take Sophie to her practice? I know I promised to take her but I’m not feeling well, take my car” she pleaded with me.I remembered that before I got shot, I was actually learning how to drive but I wasn’t sure if I was perfect yet. I thought to myself ‘why not try it?’“Yeah, I will take her there. What time?” I replied.“Around 10 AM” she said.“Okay cool” I said.“Thank you very much” she replied.“Anything for you” I replied.Christine left my room as I sat on the bed trying to figure out what to do with the email that I came across the previous night. I knew that taking the information to the police or any kind of
Christine and I were still sitting in the sitting room, with me waiting for her response. It was very much clear that whatever the counselor did to her had a severe impact on her. We never had a deep conversation about this counselor and what he actually did to her in the past and this time I had to ask. I gave Christine a concerned stare.“Look, I don’t want you to agree helping me out because I forced you” I cleared my throat “can you please decide? I will respect whatever decision you take” I said.“The truth is I hate that man and he had put my family through hell, since I was a kid, he has been terrorizing this community especially my family” a tear fell from one eye “this man killed my parents and nothing was done about it. So, if this is how justice is to come and if this is how I get to avenge my parents, then I’m in” Christine wiped her tears with the palm of her hand.I nodded “Okay then
“Do you understand me?” I asked Sarah. She nodded without saying a word back, I took out a burner phone and handed it to her.“This is a burner phone, immediately when you leave here you will go straight to the counselor’s office and you will give me a call. After planting everything I gave you in his office, you’re going to throw it away then that’s the end of me and you” I instructed her.“It that all?” Sarah asked.“Yeah, that’s all” I replied.Sarah got off the sofa and gave me a very cold stare as she silently walked away and slammed the door on her way out. I felt bad for what I was doing to her that moment but that was the only way I could access the counselor’s office so I had to make her agree. I sat down immediately Sarah left the room.“I didn’t know you could be such a bad ass sometimes” Christine said.“Only when I have t
The next morning…I woke up to Christine’s sounds in the kitchen and I decided to wake up and greet her. I walked out of my room, knowing that the awkwardness was not yet over I went all the way to the kitchen where she was preparing breakfast for Sophie so that she could eat before going to her soccer practice. I walked into the kitchen and Christine was right there waiting for the water to boil, she gave me a shy look.“Morning” I greeted her as I grabbed a cup.“Morning” she replied.“Can you please make me some?” I pleaded with her.“Okay” she replied as she took the cup from me.“Look…” I couldn’t finish the sentence as I was interrupted by the door.Sophie and Johnny who seemed to be in a very good mood walked into the house without knocking, seeing Sophie smiling and laughing, Christine and I glanced at each other wondering why she was this ex
