I WILL MARRY YOU

My first thought was to run to Mrs. Joyce since she had always been good to me, but I recalled what Patric had said about my word against his.

I instead ran to the gate but it was locked and I wasn't with the keys. I thought of knocking on the gateman's door and asking for the keys but I knew he was very loyal to Patrick.

Left with no other choice, I approached the gate and struggled to climb it, I felt my gown tear even more but I ignored it and kept climbing until I got to the top.

When I jumped over, I fractured my right ankle just as my feet landed on the ground. I cried out in pain but there was no one around to help me.

I slowly picked myself up from the ground and started limping with the support of my left foot.

I told myself that if I could just make it to the road, I will beg whoever I saw to take me to the hospital.

I didn't know what the time was but I knew it was late since there was no single soul outside.

My whole body was hurting from the pain I was feeling and moving was getting more difficult.

I started becoming afraid because I knew that if I encountered anyone evil along the road, I would not be able to defend myself.

As I passed a particular white building, I was suddenly reminded of a weirdo who asked me to be his wife.

I wondered if I should seek his help. I knew it was very risky because he could be a pervert, a serial killer, or a human trafficker.

Against my better judgment, I limped to his gate and knocked on it but there was no reply.

I kept knocking until I finally gave up and turned to leave but I suddenly heard a man's voice asking, "who are you?"

I didn't know how to describe myself so I said, "I am looking for Mr. Victor. I am the girl whom he asked earlier in the day to be his wife."

The man said, "hold on, let me inform him.'

After a while, I heard Mr. Victor's voice asking, "what was your reply when I said I wanted you to be my wife?"

I told him, "I am a lowly slave, was my reply." I then added, "please help me, I don't know where else to go to."

He finally opened the gate and when he saw the state I was in, he shouted, "what happened to you?"

I just stared at him with eyes brimming with tears, not knowing where to start.

He told me to wait, he went in and carried a few things, drove his car over to where I stood, helped me get into the car, and told me that he was taking me to the hospital.

The doctor attended to me swiftly. After a series of tests, he put a cast on my ankle and gave me some analgesics. I was asked to stay overnight at the hospital and Mr. Victor stayed with me all through.

I suddenly developed a warm feeling toward him in my heart. When he noticed me staring at him, he patted my head and said, "don't worry, when you feel much better, you can tell me everything that happened."

I didn't know what was going to happen to me when I got discharged. I was extremely afraid of going back to Patrick's house because I knew no one would be able to protect me.

I silently wished that Mr. Victor was a good man who really wanted to marry me as I felt spending my life with him wouldn't be as horrible as my other options but I never knew I was in for a rude awakening.

After the formalities were done and I was discharged, Mr. Victor took me to his home. Since I couldn't walk properly, I was given a pair of crutches to aid my movement.

On our way home, he stopped by a mall and got some clothes for me as well as a toothbrush and a few other items he felt I would need.

When we got to his house, I was amazed at how simple it was yet so beautiful. The curtains matched the couch and the cushion and everywhere seemed so serene.

"Your house is lovely," I told him and he thanked me, after which he showed me to the bathroom.

I was able to take my bath and change my dress. Patrick's handprint was clearly visible on my face even though the pain had subsided.

When I finally came out of the bathroom, I noticed the dining had been set and breakfast was ready.

As I stared at him in surprise, he smiled and said, "come have breakfast." Chicken sauce had been served together with rice and I began to salivate, the moment I set my eyes on the food.

After eating, Victor allowed me to rest for a while before asking me to explain what happened. I was really impressed by his kind and considerate nature and once again, I thought about the possibility of becoming his wife.

I told him my life story. Beginning from how I slaved in my father's house to how I was sold to Patrick, how I suffered in the hands of Aby and how Patrick tried to force himself on me.

He gritted his teeth in anger. After a while, he looked at me and said, "it is against the law to sell you and force you into a life of servitude, especially at such a young age. You can sue them all if you want and send them to jail."

"No," I quickly replied. "I don't want to trouble Mrs. Joyce in any way since she has always been kind to me."

"Alright then," he said. After a while, he continued, "I am serious about what I said to you when we first spoke. I really like you and want to marry you.

My dad is Andrew Wales and my mom's name is Marissa Wales. She passed away eight years ago. I am the sixth child of my father. I have five brothers from my father's previous wives.

My dad is the owner of Drew Wales petroleum and I manage one of his subsidiaries. We also have ties to the royal family so my background is quite powerful.

I am telling you this so that you will know that I can protect you from any harm. With me by your side, you do not have to be afraid of anybody.

If you consent to become my wife, we can go to the Marriage Court tomorrow and register our marriage. I don't want to put you under any pressure, take your time and think about it. Only give me an answer when you've made up your mind."

"I've already made up my mind," I quickly told him. "I have nothing. The fact that you consider me worthy enough to become your wife is more than enough for me. I want nothing else, I will marry you."

"It's settled then," he replied. "By tomorrow, we will become man and wife. I will give you a week to recover after which I'll take you to Patrick's house. They need to know your position as my wife. Since we live close to each other, I don't want any of them to look down on you or make trouble for you whenever you cross paths with them."

"I'll go with whatever plans you make because I believe you want the best for me," I told him.

"It's okay," he said. "I don't like maids in my house but I'll get you one for the time being until you get better. I have a lot of work piled up for me at the office so I'll have to leave."

As he walked away, I opened my mouth to tell him that I didn't need a maid and I could manage on my own but the words couldn't come out because just a while ago, I had told him I would succumb to his arrangements.

The feeling of having a maid felt foreign to me because, throughout my life, I had been the maid. Was my luck really turning around?

I pinched myself so hard to be sure I wasn't dreaming. Everything seemed so surreal. I became afraid as my life suddenly appeared too good to be true.

The following day, we went to the Marriage Court and got married. Victor didn't say anything about having a wedding ceremony and I didn't want one either because I didn't have anybody else.
