MY HEART WAS REALLY MOVED

After our marriage, Victor got me a maid just like he had promised. She was very nice to me and didn't allow me to do anything. I only saw him in the morning when he was about to leave for work and late at night when he got back since I was still staying in the guest room.

After a week had passed, I was able to move slowly without the crutches, he asked me to get ready and wait for him. He got back earlier than usual and together we both went to Patrick's house.

When we got to the house, everyone seemed really surprised to see me, especially Patrick.

"What happened to you, my dear? I have been so worried about you, where have you been all this time?" Mrs. Joyce asked me.

Just as I was about to answer, Patrick beat me to it and replied, "where else would she be? This cheap, disgusting, and good for nothing slut. You abandoned your duties in this house to go sleep around with men. How much is he paying you?"

"That is enough!" Victor quickly shouted in reply. "No one is allowed to call my wife names."

Wife???? They all stared at me in shock. Abigail was the most surprised as she quickly stood up and yelled, "impossible!! Dad, this is my slave, you bought her to serve me, all her life. What right does she have to go and get married, that too without my consent? This is completely unacceptable."

"It is not up to you to decide if Ivy gets married or not," Victor said.

"She is my slave," Patrick angrily replied, "mine, I bought her with my hard earned money hence, only I will decide if she gets married or not."

Victor stared at Patrick for a while and suddenly smiled, then he said, "I have a certificate that gives me the right to keep Ivy, if you have one, Mr. Patrick, I suggest you bring it out, let's present it before the court of law and see who is right."

Patrick suddenly became afraid and started to stutter, "erm...Mr. Victor, it hasn't come to that."

"Yes, it has," Victor replied. "If I want to, I can expose to the world how you illegally bought a child and enslaved her for years. I also have a doctor's report, I can sue you for attempting to rape Ivy and inflicting injuries on her body which as you can see, she is still recovering from."

Three pairs of eyes quickly turned to Patrick in surprise before Aby suddenly said, "no, my dad can't do such a thing, especially to such a disgusting slave."

"For the umpteenth time, I have told you that Ivy is nobody's slave, she is my wife. Get that into your thick skull." As Victor said this, he quickly took out a check for one thousand dollars and threw it on Patrick's face, however, Patrick was too scared to even pick up the slip.

"Make no mistake, I am not buying Ivy from you because money cannot determine her value, I am giving you this money because I don't want to ever again hear you or any of your spoilt brats refer to my wife as a slave. If that ever happens again, you will all have me to contend with and I can assure you that I will come out standing."

A loud sound was suddenly heard and everyone turned their eyes to see Patrick holding his cheeks from the slap he had just received from his wife.

He stared at her in shock, as he screamed, "what is wrong with you woman? do you want to die?"

"You shameless swine, you will die a shameful death," she cursed. "All these years I tolerated and endured your useless behavior but you only got worse. I can't believe you stooped so low as to try and rape a girl who is almost the same age as your daughters."

"Mum don't believe their lies," Abigail cut in.

"Will you shut up?" her mother yelled amidst tears. "You are just like your father."

May quickly said, "calm down mum, there's no need to get all worked up because of someone as worthless as Ivy."

As Mrs. Joyce looked at them all in disappointment. She slowly said, "I can't take this anymore. I'm done with this marriage."

When she turned to walk away, I finally opened my mouth and said, "I am sorry Mrs. Joyce, I never meant for any of this to happen."

"It's okay Ivy," she softly said without turning back. "It's not your fault, some people are just really evil. I wish you happiness in your marriage."

As I watched her walk away, I became plagued with so much guilt. I wished I could run to her, hug her and comfort her and I wished I could call her mum.

But my feet remained rooted to the ground as I stared at her back until she was out of my view.

Victor turned his attention back to Patrick who was still standing and holding his cheeks like he couldn't believe what just happened and said, "I'll remind you once again, keep your people away from my wife's path and never bother her again.

This is my final warning."

After saying this, Victor held my hand tightly in his and took me out of the house.

As I took one last look at the house, I sighed in relief, grateful that I will never face this family's wrath again.

When we got home, I stared at Victor for a long time before tears began dropping from my eyes. Surprised, he asked me, "are you in pain?"

I shook my head and said to him, "my heart was really moved today because no one has ever stood up for me the way you did. Thank you so much for everything.

I promise to always do whatever makes you happy."

He laughed as he pulled me in for a hug, "don't worry," he said. "I don't need too much. Just listen to me, be a good wife and give me good children, that's all."

'I will surely do that, I replied".

He smiled and stroked my chin, "I believe you will but for now, I don't want my wife to stay in the guest room anymore. I'll help you move your things to my room. Is that okay?"

"Yes, it is," I replied before joining him in the guest room to assist even though I didn't have many belongings.
