Chapter 10

There was no way I could ever forgive my family. Their betrayal was a pain that pierced me to the core.

I brought nothing along, purchasing only a ticket to the south. I spent two days and one night on the journey, and when I finally arrived, my back and waist ached from the long ride.

I bought a small place in the south and settled in there. I also got a new phone number using my own money so that my family would have no way to track me down.

I had a young married couple and a retired elderly lady, who was living across from me, as neighbors. They helped me a great deal when I first arrived, and through our frequent coming and going, we grew quite close.

Thus, once I had rested, I spent the first day cooking up a feast and invited them to join me for a meal.

It was then that I saw the news broadcast on TV, though I turned away almost immediately. "If anyone has any information on Matthew Sutherland, the Sutherlands and the Livingstons will provide a handsome reward."
