I walked as fast as I could without actually running, pushing through the hallway like the walls were closing in, and the moment I found the sign for the restroom, I practically dove inside. The soft music from the ballroom faded when the door swung shut behind me, replaced by the quiet hum of ventilation and distant chatter. I slipped into the last stall, closed the door and locked it, then leaned my forehead against the cold metal.

I told myself I wasn't going to cry.

I really, really told myself that.

This wasn't a big deal. We weren't together. He could kiss whoever he wanted in whatever dark closet he wanted and it had nothing to do with me. I wasn't his problem anymore. I had Adrian now. I had a baby on the way. I was supposed to be happy. I was supposed to be glowing and mature and unbothered like the heroines in movies.

But my eyes burned anyway.
