~ALEX’S POV~

I sat fixed to the chair in the emergency room, my elbows on my knees, and I clasped my hands together tightly, as my mind replayed Riley's cries, the way she lay on the floor clutching her stomach. I couldn't stand the thought of losing my unborn child–A child I had longed for.

After a while of pacing around in short spans. Doctor Keira stepped out of the ward. “Mr Fox?”

I rushed towards Doctor Keira's direction, I stretched out both hands with my brows widened, “Yes, Doctor–how is she? How is my baby? Is he safe?” I inquired.

“She is stable,” Doctor Keira assured, “the baby is safe and sound. His heartbeat is strong, but we'll keep her for observation tonight. There are no immediate threats for now. All she needs is rest and minimal stress.”

I took a deep breath with my shoulders sagging, I shakily exhaled and muttered, “Thank God.” Without hesitation, I quickly asked, “Please, can I see her now, doc?”

I walked into the room. Riley was lying on the bed with her hands re

  • I LEFT MY EX HUSBAND AND MARRIED A BILLIONAIRE    Chapter 39

~MAX’S POV~I was prepared to go to work that morning, then I realized I hadn't seen Elena for a few days. So I decided to check in on her.I walked by Elena's room, and I figured her door was slightly open. I knocked on the door but didn't get a response. So, I walked in and found out she wasn't there. I strolled to her studio, and it was locked. Automatically she wasn't there also. I looked around and couldn't find her.I got to the sitting room and found Steve waiting for me. I approached him, “Any sign of Elena around the house?” I asked.“No, sir,” Steve answered. “She left very early this morning. She went for a jug.”“Oh, okay.” I resolved. After that night, Elena and I argued about Derek, and things never remained the same. We would move around the house like two ghosts bound by a routine. It's overwhelming how the same walls that once held laughter and comfortable silence now carry a tension that refuses to be dissolved. It was almost as if she was avoiding me – like she didn

  • I LEFT MY EX HUSBAND AND MARRIED A BILLIONAIRE    Chapter 38

~MAX’S POV~Elena stepped into the long marble hallway, her voice barely above a whisper as she answered the call. But even at a distance, the brightness in her tone was unmistakable.“Hi, Derek. I just finished having dinner.” Elena said, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, “Okay, that's fine. Just text me the location and time.”I stayed seated at the table, elbows resting on the polished glass, my gaze fixed on the pathway Elena had just walked through to answer her phone. I tapped my thumb against the table steadily – a habit I had developed whenever I'm cornered with uncertainty. I didn't need to hear the other end of the conversation to know who it was, because I noticed lately, Elena didn't take calls from anyone else since her divorce. But after Derek resurfaced in her life, she not only took calls from people, but she also took private calls in hiding. I wasn't comfortable with it because this could only mean one thing and I don't want such thoughts crossing my mind.El

  • I LEFT MY EX HUSBAND AND MARRIED A BILLIONAIRE    Chapter 37

~MAX’S POV~The soft glow of the evening sun spilled through the window of my study, casting long gold lines across the desk. I sat motionless in the leather chair, my gaze fixed on the folder opened on my laptop screen. But I wasn't reading. My mind was replaying the way Elena smiled at Derek. It wasn't the kind of smile she gave business partners, nor the kind of smile she expressed at galas. It was deeper. Unconscious. “I'm aware they have a history together. But what makes Derek worthy of such treatment? Could it be that they were more than just friends in high school?” I was bemused.I leaned back into the chair, one hand drumming lightly on the armrest as I reflected on an earlier incident of Derek showing up at Elena's studio with pastries from a bakery he claimed Elena used to love back in high school days. And Elena was excited, her eyes lit up with nostalgia. She laughed with Derek, freely as they shared stories and inside jokes.I noticed the way Derek positioned himself sl

  • I LEFT MY EX HUSBAND AND MARRIED A BILLIONAIRE    Chapter 36

~ALEX’S POV~“Shit!” I tossed the files on my desk and exhaled sharply. “I can't believe this is happening. I thought I had this under control, but everything is falling apart so swiftly.” I muttered to myself. The office door hinge clicked as John, my assistant, walked in a blue suit, well composed but cautious.“Sir,” John began, his voice steady but low, “The board wants a status report on the client situation they–”“I know what they want,” I snapped, interrupting John sharply with a contorted face, “They want answers. They want someone to blame. And they expect me to have a miracle. I mean, they could as well want my life.”John took a deep breath, “Sir, there is something very important you need to know. But you need to stay calm while I explain.”My brows furrowed, “I hope it involves a solution to these problems. You know what? Just get to the point, John.”John cordially stepped forward and dropped a file on the desk, right in front of me. Then he stepped back and adjusted hi

  • I LEFT MY EX HUSBAND AND MARRIED A BILLIONAIRE    Chapter 35

~ELENA’S POV~I stood over the workbench, shoulders relaxed, more at peace than I had been all week. Derek stood by me, leaning casually against the counter, his eyes tracing a half-finished necklace design.“Wow, Elena, this is incredible,” Derek said, sincerity threading his voice. “You've always had a gift, Lena, but this…” he gestured to the sketchbook, “This is on a whole new level.”I smiled. I felt a small nostalgic flutter awakening in my chest. No one has called me Lena in months now. “Thank you. I've evolved a lot since high school.”“You remember how we used to sit in the art lab until the janitor kicked us out?” Derek laughed. “You'd carve gemstones into miniature hearts, and I'd pretend I knew what I was doing with clay.”I laughed softly, “You weren't pretending. You were actually good.”“And you were brilliant,” Derek remarked, his tone deepening, “Back then, I always knew you were going to do something special with your life.”I looked at him–really looked at him. And

  • I LEFT MY EX HUSBAND AND MARRIED A BILLIONAIRE    Chapter 34

~ELENA’S POV~“Welcome back to reality,” Max said as I stepped out of the black SUV, clutching my tote bag.I chuckled softly, “Reality could have waited another week.”It's been a few days since Max and I returned from our private island vacation, yet the contrast between serenity and noise felt like day and night.Max smiled as he handed the valet the keys, “You earned the break. Now it's time to make your design earn you the world.”We had agreed to meet a potential client that afternoon, but I insisted on stopping by the mall first to pick up some materials from an artisan shop. Max, ever the gentle man, tagged along even though he had a tight schedule.Inside, the mall buzzed with weekend life – chatter, laughter, the faint music from a nearby café. My eyes moved instinctively towards the jewelry displays of other brands as we walked, my mind analyzed, compared and imagined improvements.“You're working again, aren't you?” Max teased.“Maybe,” I replied with a smile, “I can't tur
