Chapter 3

PHOEBE

I was twelve years old when dad brought in his mistress daughter, Isla who was nine years old.

Mom hated the idea of bringing in Isla but her cute puppy eyes couldn't be ignored. Her mother had just lost her life to cancer and there was no one to take care of Isla.

Dad had to take her in.

Since dad is wealthy, Isla got to live like a princess. Dad didn't like her that much and I knew.

She wasn't pampered like I was but she wasn't mistreated either. But she didn't experience parents love.

I liked Isla at first and I was close to her. She looked pitiful and I felt sorry for her that she didn't have a mother anymore.

We played as children and we were close.

But I started to dislike her when I was starting to get compared with her which was in high school. I was two classes ahead of her but we still got compared.

She went on competition and won medals for the school and herself.

She was pretty and boys were always hovering around her.

She seemed to get all the attention. She was pretty athletic.

In the university, I was into arts and she was in business class.

Dad was proud of her but not me. He didn't like what I choose.

And that was when we started to fall apart. I always felt like the bad girl because she was always smiling and happy towards me.

When I found out about her relationship Joe whose father owned a huge tech company, I was envious.

Then, I set her up.

I made the bar attender pour an aphrodisiac inside her whiskey.

But the guy she had a one night stand with, it wasn't who I was expecting it to be. Even though I knew who he was, there was no way I was going to tell her.

And the guy too, would never know.

I did all that just to have Joe for myself and it worked.

That same night, Joe and I slept together. He left that part out when he told Isla what happened.

I wasn't drunk but even though he was too, he knew it was me as he had called out my name.

Who knows how long he had been longing for me?

I overheard mom discussing with dad that she'd trick Isla to follow her to the hospital for a check up and from there, she would have an abortion and of course, that made me happy.

Everything was going according to plan.

ISLA

"Your baby is healthy and in a condition. You need rest and to eat," The doctor said after doing a check up.

"Okay doctor." I replied enthusiastically and rubbed my tummy.

Phoebe's mom smiled lightly at the doctor.

"Okay doctor, since everything is fine, can she have an abortion now?" Phoebe's mom asked.

I turned to look at her and my jaw dropped, I was appalled.

"Is that what you came for?" The doctor asked.

"Yes." Mom replied.

"What are you talking about? Who are you to decide if I want an abortion or not?" I yelled angrily at her and stood up hurriedly from the chair. I finally got myself back and could now say something.

"This is the best option you can give yourself. Do you want to have a bastard child? A child that you do not know his father?" Mom yelled at me and pulled me down to sit back.

I held my tummy protectively.

"I don't care! It's my baby and I know what's best for it." I told her, wiping my tears that was already running down my face.

"If you do not terminate this pregnancy, you might be kicked out by your father. It is disgraceful enough that you had you cheated outside your relationship with a one night stand and bad enough that you don't even know who the father is." Mom stated.

It was the truth and it hurts, it hurts so bad.

"I still won't do it. I won't kill my child!" I yelled and ran out of the doctor's office and out of the hospital.

I boarded a taxi and went straight to Mel's house. Mel was my only friend and we met in our first year in college.

Since then, we've been friends.

"Hey Isla, what's up?" She looked devastated as she saw the condition I was in. I was probably looking haggard and tired and so sad.

"Mel!" Was the only word I could speak of as I bursted into hot tears.

"Shush!" She said and hugged me. I hugged her tight and sobbed.

When I regained myself, I stopped crying. Mel offered me a cup of water which I chugged down immediately.

"Are you ready to talk to me?" She asked softly. I took in a deep breath and nodded my head.

Then I went on to explain everything to her, not leaving out any details.

At the end, she could only look at me in shock.

"Are you serious Isla? This sounds like one of those novels I read," Mel said.

"I don't know what to do." I sighed and ran my hands through my hair.

"You sure you want to keep this baby? Whatever your decision is, I would support you but I want you to make a decision you won't regret," Mel said to me.

"I don't want to think about anything and I'm sure about what I want. From the very first minute I found out about this baby, I wanted to keep it, give birth and watch it grow." I replied.

Mel nodded her head and smiled at me.

"If that is your final decision, I'd support it. For now, just go home and hear what your parents have to say." She advised.

"Alright." I nodded my head.

"Come on, I'll drop you off." She told me and I followed her out of the house.

FELIX

"Sir!" My butler called me as he walked up to me on my reading table.

I took off my glasses and looked at him.

"Yes? Any good news?" I asked him hopefully.

He bowed his head.

"Yes sir. I found her," He said and I immediately stood up from my chair.

"Are you serious?" I asked.

"Yes sir. I found her and her name is Isla Peterson."
