Chapter 4

FELIX

"Sir!" My butler called me as he walked up to me on my reading table.

I took off my glasses and looked at him.

"Yes? Any good news?" I asked him hopefully.

He bowed his head.

"Yes sir. I found her," He said and I immediately stood up from my chair.

"Are you serious?" I asked.

"Yes sir. I found her and her name is Isla Peterson."

He handed me the portfolio in his hand and excused himself.

I was glad that he finally found her.

I didn't think of looking for her but just kept the memory with me but I couldn't and a week ago, I told my butler to do anything he could to find her.

I knew it was going to be pretty difficult as I didn't even know her name.

But I gave him the details I could remember.

I opened the portfolio and read through it.

He had found her through the CCTV camera and from there, he traced her.

I looked through her file and I found out that she wasn't just an ordinary girl.

Her family was wealthy and she went to prestigious schools. She graduated as the best student in her department.

Her house address was written on it.

Would she remember me?

What if I'm the only one who felt that way?

Would she be angry if she sees me again?

All these questions ran through my mind as I tried to sleep.

ISLA

Mel dropped me off and I went into the house. I got into the house and I found my bags in the sitting room.

The whole family was sitting in the sitting room as if they were waiting for me.

"What are my bags doing here?" I asked, not directing the question to anyone since I didn't know on whose order it was carried out.

"It's either you get an abortion or you leave the house and find the bastard to take care of you and the child," Dad said.

"For goodness sake, I'm twenty three years old dad and I know what I want! I'm old enough to take care of a child. I'm not some high schooler." I yelled angrily.

I know he never liked me but how could he do this to his own child?

"You are right, you're not some high schooler that still needs her parents protection. So, you can do us a favour and leave this house." Dad retorted.

I face palmed face and sobbed quietly.

"And you're fired from the company." Dad added.

After graduating, dad gave me a position in his company but now, he was taking it back because I messed up.

"Take your bags and leave." Mom finally chipped in. "The door was opened because we wanted to hear you change your mind but since you are adamant, you have to leave." She added.

I waited for Phoebe to say anything but she just continued to stare at me like I was some movie play.

"Please dad, don't do this to me. I don't have anywhere to go." I pleaded and went on my knees.

"Phoebe, please beg dad for me to let me stay." I turned to look at Phoebe but she ignored me.

I pleaded in tears but nobody was moved.

Dejectedly, I picked up my bags and left. Unfortunately for me, it started to rain. I boarded a taxi and went to Mel's house who welcomed me wholeheartedly.

She dried me up and gave me a hot cup of tea.

I blew air into it and sipped from it gently.

"Be careful, it's hot." She smiled at me.

7 MONTHS LATER

My life has been going on normal. My baby bump was more pronounced and I was getting fat. I had mood swings and ate a lot but Mel was very supportive of me.

I couldn't be more grateful to her.

Since I was pregnant but wasn't married, no place wanted to take me so, I ended up working in a bakery.

I didn't want to sit idle in the house and let Mel do all the work.

Now, I'm eight months into my pregnancy and my baby has been kicking even more fiercely than ever.

I wore big and long clothes to cover my baby bump and not make it too pronounced.

I made my way home after work that day and I was so tired.

My legs and waist were already giving up. As soon as I got inside, I perceived the sweet smell of fried potatoes from the kitchen.

It was definitely Mel's cooking. I was happy and like a baby, I rushed to meet her.

We ate dinner and talked about work.

PHOEBE

"Do you know where Isla is by any chance? I miss her," Joe said to me.

I angrily smacked him hard across his face.

"You must be crazy! How dare you say that to my face?" I yelled at him and hit him angrily on his chest.

He held my hands to stop me from him hitting him any further.

"Have you forgotten that she's pregnant with another man's child? You miss the same woman that cheated on you with another?

She slept with a stranger when only what you've done in your relationship is hug and hold hands? Humph! You really must be crazy." I told him with a smirk.

My words seemed to have gotten to him as his countenance changed.

He sighed and looked at me.

"You can get off." He told me.

I didn't say anything because I was already in the house. He had dropped me off at home from work. I alighted from the car and slammed it very hard and he immediately drove off, not even stealing a glance at me.

I kicked the air angrily and left.

He misses her? He must be joking.

After everything I did to make him mine, does he think I'll just let him go like that?

Never! He's mine and I'll make him marry me.

ISLA

I stood for a while as I took in a deep breath as I was exhausted. I was on my way back home from grocery shopping.

Just as I made to cross the road, a fast speeding trailer made its way towards me.

I screamed and with my hands protecting my tummy, I felt my legs leave the ground and my body in the air and down with a thud on the ground.

"My baby..." I keep whispering as I heard screams and people running towards me.

I heard distinct voices of people yelling to call the ambulance.

My hands wouldn't leave my stomach.

I was trying so hard not to pass out and the ambulance came and I was taken to the hospital.

I felt substance in between my legs and I knew I was bleeding already.

"Doctor, please save my baby. I don't care about my life but just save my baby." I pleaded before slipping into unconsciousness.

I don't know how long or how many days it was, I finally regained consciousness and the first thing I could think of was my baby.

I touched my stomach and it was flat.

The baby must have been born. I thought within myself.

"You're finally awake. How do you feel?" A doctor happened to come in that particular time.

I ignored his question.

"My baby, where is baby?" I asked desperately as I tried to stand up but I fell right back to my bed.

"You have to calm down first," The doctor said.

"Don't tell me to calm down. Tell me you saved my baby!" I asked, this time more calmly.

The doctor seemed to battle with words, as if he was choosing carefully, the right words to say.

"We are sorry but we couldn't save the baby. It's life was already in danger," The doctor finally said.

"No, don't tell me that! Where is my baby?" I bursted into hot tears.
