“Crystal?”

I stared in disbelief at the woman sprawled on the floor before my feet. There was no mistaking it. It was Crystal.

If she were here, then that could only mean...

“Where the hell are you, Crystal? Don’t you dare run away!” The shout cut through the air like a blade and a heartbeat later, Kallias appeared.

The moment our eyes met, I froze.

Of all the things I expected tonight, seeing them here together was nowhere on my list. Valtor also never said a word about Kallias and Crystal attending.

“W-Winter…” Kallias breathed, his voice unsteady. His gaze locked on me, and for a fleeting second, it was as if he were seeing me for the first time in his life again. In all the years we lived under the same roof, he’d never looked at me like that.

Then Crystal let out a soft, pained whimper that snapped his attention back to her.
