WINTER

The past two weeks had been a blur of nightmares. Crystal’s pregnancy spread quickly through the pack. Kallias hadn’t tried to hide it, he wanted everyone to know.

And what cut the deepest? It was how our pack members reacted to it. An Alpha fathering a child with another woman after taking a Luna would be met with shame. But in our pack, they greeted Crystal’s pregnancy with smiles as if it were a blessing.

Crystal’s life had changed overnight. Kallias moved her out of the maids’ pavilion and onto our floor, giving her a special room right next to his. He hadn't realized what he did wasn't something wise but I don't think he cares.

This morning, I caught some maids gossiping in the castle hall.

“I heard Alpha and Crystal will perform a mating ceremony soon. Then what will happen to Luna Winter if Crystal becomes the new Luna?”

I froze mid-step, my head turning toward the cluster of omegas gathered at the end of the corridor.

“She’ll be banished. No matter how much Alpha Kallias loves her, what good is a barren Luna for a pack?”

“If you’ve been paying attention, you’d have seen Alpha’s been watching Crystal ever since she moved here. It's like he wants her more than he wants Luna Winter.”

I gripped the stairs’ railing so hard my knuckles ached. Hot tears blurred my vision, but this isn't from sadness. What burned in my chest was anger.

Had I been so blind all this time that I hadn’t seen my mate eyeing other women?

I needed answers. I was just about to turn toward the maids when I saw Julian walk toward me.

He stopped before me.

“Julian?”

“Luna, are you crying?” He asked softly.

I quickly averted my gaze, blinking the tears away as if I could erase the evidence.

Julian’s eyes dropped to the floor, “I’m so sorry about what happened lately, Luna Winter.”

My pain had become public knowledge in the castle since the news spread, and they now whispered about it every time.

“I may not be coming to you at the right time,” He began, his tone apologetic, “But I really need your help.”

“Say it, Julian.” I straightened my spine.

I might be broken but I was still the Luna of this pack. If my people needed me, I would not turn away.

“I haven’t been able to reach Alpha Kallias since yesterday, he said he was too busy to see anyone. I have an important letter from one of our allied packs.” He lifted an envelope, its wax seal still unbroken. “Do you think you could take it to him?”

"Sure."

Julian handed me the envelope and I took it. He offered a respectful nod before turning away. Clutching the letter, I started toward Kallias’s study.

I hadn’t spoken to Kallias in two weeks. Was he all right?

The closer I drew to the black wooden door of his study, the heavier the pressure in my chest became. The image of him and Crystal together flashed in my mind again. I forced myself to look straight ahead as I passed Crystal's room.

But then I heard it.

“Fuck. You’re so tight and warm. You were made for me, weren’t you?” Kallias’s breathless voice slid into my ears.

I froze, my pulse thundering.

My feet betrayed me, moving closer to the half-open door despite the pain lancing through my chest.

“Whose pussy is better? mine or that boring, plain Winter’s?” Crystal asked.

Her jet-black hair swung in a rhythm as she rode his cock, her body moving up and down over Kallias' lap. He gripped her waist firmly, guiding her movements

“Yours. Yours, my beautiful Crystal. How could you even ask?” Kallias’s voice was a low growl. The same sound he always makes when he is about to cum. “Oh, fuck…”

“Yes… ah… cum in me, my Alpha. My dashing Alpha. I’ll take every drop of you,” Crystal moaned, leaning forward until their lips met in a heated kiss.

I staggered back.

I clutch my chest tightly when intense pain ripped through me. I could feel our mating bond straining, threatening to snap under the weight of his betrayal.

Enough.

I would not spend the rest of my life like this.

'I’m sorry, Khione,' I whispered to my wolf, guilt coiling in my chest. 'But this can’t be saved anymore. Today we sever our mate bond with him.'

------

I descended the stairs and walked to the dining room as night came. Crystal and Kallias sat together at the long table, a lavish spread of delicious dishes lay before them, the air thick with the scent of roasted meats and his favorite wine.

They laughed softly and fed each other.

“You need to eat more to keep my heir healthy,” Kallias murmured, lifting a forkful toward her lips. She accepted it with a smile.

Their hands stilled when I stepped closer, halting just a single step away from the table.

Kallias’s smile fell and he turned his gaze aside.

Crystal’s, however, only brightened. “Oh, Winter? What a surprise to see you downstairs. Will you join us tonight?”

I swallowed the burning urge to hurl one of the plates into their faces.

“No,” My eyes fixed on my mate. “I came here to tell you something.”

He knew my words were meant for him. Slowly, he lifted his gaze to meet mine.

“What?”

“Let’s break our mating bond right now.”

The room fell into a heavy silence. I saw something close to excitement flickering in Crystal’s eyes. Kallias just held our gaze, fingers curling loosely around his wine glass.

Then finally, he spoke. “No. It would be an insult for me if we did that.”

“I would never keep a man who betrayed me and fucked another woman as my life mate, Kallias Thorn.”

“It’s not betrayal,” He answered calmly, “It’s normal for an Alpha to have two mates, Winter. A few months ago I realized Crystal is also my mate and I can’t ignore that.”

“So you got her pregnant?” I laugh bitterly “That’s the brilliant logic rattling around in your Alpha head?”

His eyes darkened at my mockery.

Kallias rose from his chair and stepped toward me until we stood face to face.

“No. I won't release you as my Luna or my mate. You will stay here by my side, in my pack, you heard that? I'll make a pack with two Lunas, first in history.” He said.

For a moment, I could only stare at him in disbelief hearing the silliest idea in my life.

“Not even in your wildest dreams, Kallias.” I hissed.

He didn’t need to release me? Fine. I would be the first to cut the tie. I was far too precious to waste another second chained to someone like him.

“I, Winter Ashbane of the Winterwood Pack,” My voice ringing with finality, “Reject you, Kallias Thorn, as my mate. I sever every bond that once tied us together.”

“Now can we talk about what made you come all this way? There’s no chance you followed me here without a reason. Something must have happened.” Valtor said quietly, his voice low but firm. After her conversation with Kallias, Winter finally asked the man to leave. He did so without protest, retreating from the room with a respectful bow. Only then did she turn back to her mate.Valtor had been waiting just outside the room. The moment she stepped into the corridor, she saw the worry, tangled with jealousy and a sharp edge of irritation, written all over his face. He looked like a man who had fought every instinct not to barge into the room. But when Winter met his gaze calmly and offered him a small, reassuring smile, some of that tension finally eased from his shoulders.Talking with Kallias had distracted her briefly from the unease Freya had left behind at the castle. Now that she was with Valtor again, the weight returned, but it felt lighter somehow, as if being near him steadied

Winter was shocked.'What? Their baby was gone?'“It happened that night,” Kallias continued quietly. “At your wedding party. Crystal and I argued, nothing serious, or so I thought. Then the incident happened.”Winter said nothing. She hadn’t expected him to continue, but he did. His shoulders sagged beneath an invisible weight, desperation etched into every line of his face. The regret in his voice was unmistakable. And for the briefest moment, an unsettling thought crossed her mind. What if he’s right? What if Crystal truly was hiding here?“She isn’t only angry at me,” Kallias went on. “She’s angry at you as well.”Winter’s gaze sharpened.“She knows I would search for her everywhere, including here," he said. “Knowing no one would believe me. Crystal knew I would confront Valtor and that if I failed to find her it would push me toward war, a war that would endanger both our people.”Silence fell.Winter absorbed his words slowly, weighing each implication.“And would you?” she ask

3rd Person's POVRelief settled in Winter’s chest when she finally reached her husband and at last they could speak. Then her gaze shifted and she saw Kallias Thorn standing in the same room. The calm expression on Winter’s face vanished at once, replaced by sharp caution as her eyes narrowed. Her body stiffened, instincts rising unbidden. What was he doing here?“Kallias?” she said slowly, testing the name, as if half-expecting the figure before her to dissolve into illusion. He didn’t answer.Kallias only stared at her with something unsettling flickering in his gaze. And the more Winter looked at him, the more wrong everything seemed. She had never seen Kallias like this. He was thinner as if something had been steadily devouring him from the inside. The weight loss sharpened the lines of his face, hollowed his cheeks, carved shadows beneath his eyes that no amount of rest could erase. He looked like a man dragged from a nightmare and hurled into waking reality, driven here as if

VALTORLoran hadn’t lied. Kallias Thorn was waiting when I arrived at the border headquarters, the outpost closest to his Pack’s territory. And he was alone.“I’ve been waiting here far too long,” Kallias said as soon as he saw me. “And I never wait this long just to meet someone.”Earlier, I’d instructed my guards to confine him to a secured room. If he had come with hidden intentions, I wanted to be certain he wouldn’t vanish before I confronted him myself. Now, we stood face-to-face, the air between us thick with restrained hostility. My gaze swept over him, assessing, measuring.Magnus would have sensed hostile intent the moment Kallias crossed our borders. But instead, what my wolf felt was something else entirely.Submission.That unsettled me far more than aggression ever could.“Perhaps you should first know who it is you’re demanding an audience with.” I took a step closer. “What brings you to my territory?”The words left my mouth rough, edged with displeasure. I didn’t trus

WINTERMy breath came in ragged bursts, the snarl still lingering in my chest.“Oh Goddess…she’s attacked me…” Freya whispered, her eyes widening as she stared in disbelief at her own hand.Blood streaked her skin, a deep slash cutting from the back of her palm almost to her elbow. The wound wasn’t fatal, but it bled freely, staining her hand a vivid red.“That woman is monstrous,” Rosentine said, stepping closer to Freya, her gaze narrowing on me with an intensity that burned. “What are you doing? This is completely unnecessary.”As the fury inside me ebbed, leaving a jagged calm in its wake, I looked down at my own hands. Blood clung to my fingertips. My wolf nails, which I hadn’t controlled, hadn’t even meant to summon, were gone as suddenly as they’d appeared. I had hurt Freya. Yet strangely, there was no regret, only a strange, sharp relief that Khione’s reflexes had been faster than mine, protecting me before it could have been worse.“Blood…” the blind seer murmured, inhaling

WINTERI don’t know how much longer I can keep avoiding this truth.I know the day will come when I’ll have to tell Valtor about the possibility that I may never give him a child. But with every passing day, the weight of it grows heavier, pressing against my chest until it’s hard to breathe. Especially when I remember the way his eyes light up whenever someone speaks of an heir. Our child. The successor to his throne. And it isn’t only him. Everywhere we go, people look at me the same way, as if the future of the kingdom depends on me.What if I finally tell him, he can’t accept it?I could endure his anger. I could survive his frustration. But the thought of disappointment in his eyes terrifies me more than anything.'Goddess, I don’t want to hide this forever. Please help me find the strength.'I opened my eyes and stepped out of the steaming bath, water sliding down my skin. I reached for my robe, wrapped it tightly around myself, and tied it shut. Then I heard my chamber door ope
