Chapter 3

Autor: Big Introvert
I stared at the messages.

Bianca: "You saw the pics, right? Good. Take the hint and walk away from Seth on your own. Otherwise, things are gonna get ugly."

Bianca: "You know who Ashton Grayson is? He's my brother!"

Bianca: "Mess with me, and you're messing with the Grayson family. Don't test me unless you wanna get run out of this city."

I looked up at Ashton, who was sitting on a stool and watching me with a goofy smile on his face.

I did, in fact, know who he was. Though, to be fair, I'd only found out a few days ago.

"Hey, do you have a sister named Bianca Grayson?" I asked.

When Ashton heard what I said, he narrowed his eyes, and something dangerous flickered in them. His voice took on a low, obsessive edge. "Why are you asking? She's my dad's illegitimate daughter. I'm nothing like her. You're not gonna leave me because of her, are you? You're mine, Cami. You can only—"

"Alright, that's enough." I reached out and pinched his lips shut with two fingers.

I'd just wanted a simple answer. He always managed to twist everything into something deranged.

Ashton didn't say anything or bat my hand away. I felt a faint puff of air against my finger and knew he was breathing me in.

Sure enough, a second later, his Adam's apple bobbed. He carefully slid his hand up to my arm.

I didn't pull away. I just looked down at him from above as he savored the moment. He looked like he was touching something sacred. When his eyes met mine, they were reverent and obsessed.

I let out a soft laugh. He really was something else.

On the sixth day, I got a text from Seth. He'd probably had his fun with Bianca and finally gone home. He hadn't sent me a single message the entire time he was away.

Seth: "Cami, where are you? Why's it all dusty at home?"

Seth: "The neighbor said you haven't been home in six days. Did something happen?"

Those were the only two texts he sent. After that, he just kept calling me.

After the car crash, I'd told Seth that I couldn't stand the sound of a ringing phone. The second I heard it, every nerve in my body would go on high alert.

It was clear now that he'd forgotten about that a long time ago. Thankfully, I'd already put my phone on silent.

He kept calling every few minutes. I got so sick of it that I just switched my phone off and tossed it to the other side of the bed. I lay there staring at the ceiling, doing nothing.

It wasn't long before Ashton came back. He'd seen something on the security cameras.

When he kicked the basement door open and came down the stairs, he still had that faint chill of the outside air clinging to him.

Our eyes met, and I arched a brow. For the first time, I saw real fear on his face. It was a stark contrast to his perfectly pressed suit, which didn't have a wrinkle in sight.

For once, he pulled me into his arms without asking. I could feel him shaking; his grip was so strong it made my waist ache.

"Delete him, will you?" Ashton's hands were forceful, and his words carried a threat, but his voice trembled. "Delete him. Delete everyone. I want your whole world to be just me. He's nothing. Cami, you're mine. Cami, Cami…"

He kept repeating my name and begging me to delete all my contacts.

The choice was obvious, really. Between lazing my days away in this basement and everyone from my phone, I chose the basement.

After my parents had died in the car crash, the whole world had lined up to blame me, saying I never should've begged to go out that day. If I hadn't wanted to go out, Dad wouldn't have taken that call while driving, and there wouldn't have been an accident.

After that, there wasn't a single person in my contacts I could honestly call a real friend.

Back then, Seth hadn't comforted me at all. He'd just started coming home later and later every night. Come to think of it, that was probably when he started cheating on me.

I nudged Ashton's leg with my foot once we got to the master bedroom, crossing my arms with a lazy smile. "Weren't you afraid I'd refuse to forgive you in court? Or that I'd fall for Seth again when I was home with him?""Cami, you wouldn't do that to me." Ashton wrapped his arms around me from behind, talking as he trailed soft kisses along my neck. "You needed a real reason to walk away from him for good. Something legitimate. And I…"He paused, lowered his head, and kissed me. It went on for a long time before I finally heard his voice again, hoarse and rough. "And I… I'd have died without you. Life wouldn't have been any different from being in prison. I can't live without you, Cami."Ashton and Seth were nothing alike. Calling Seth gentle in bed was generous—he was more useless than anything. It wasn't tiring, but it also didn't pleasure me much. But Ashton was different. He was clumsy, but so damn earnest. No matter how I screamed for mercy, he kept going like a dog in heat.

In the third month after I moved out and rented my new place, my company welcomed a new boss—Ashton. He arrived looking absurdly well-groomed, like he'd dressed for a photo shoot instead of work. He even did a full lap around the office, touring every corner. My coworker at the next desk stared at him and mumbled, "What is he, a peacock showing off his tail?""Maybe he is." I chuckled, my gaze dropping to a text that had appeared on my phone at some point."Cami, will you have dinner with me?"That was all. I dialed the number, but it was disconnected.I exited Messages and opened a chapping app instead. "Ashton, you're strutting around like a lion patrolling his territory."His reply came almost immediately. "I am whatever you say I am."He even attached a photo of a baby lion. That evening, I went to the place we'd agreed on, but Ashton was nowhere in sight. A second later, he suddenly appeared behind me.I whipped around, instinctively backing away to dodge his arms."Cam

Seth cried, "Cami, you're just sick. You've got Stockholm syndrome. You fell in love with your abuser!"I yanked myself out of Seth's arms and stepped back up to the microphone. "Your Honor, I choose not to pursue any charges against Ashton Grayson. I'm willing to sign a letter of forgiveness."I pulled the photos I'd prepared in advance out of my pocket. "At the same time, I want to accuse my fiance of attempting to illegally imprison me."My lawyer clearly hadn't seen this coming. The look on his face as he took the evidence from me was… complicated, to say the least."Cami, what are you talking about?" Seth was pinned in the gallery. He stared at me in disbelief, his eyes practically popping out of their sockets. He kept struggling, desperate to explain himself."You saw me buy that chain that day, didn't you? I wasn't trying to lock you up! I just wanted to get a dog. I remember you saying before that you liked beagles!""Seth, can you drop the act already?" I honestly could

That night, after Bianca went home, I was jolted awake by a rustling outside my door. I caught a glimpse of Seth's shadow through the crack between the door and the floor. It slid back and forth across that thin strip of light. The gap was too small to see clearly, so I slipped my phone's camera under the door and watched the screen, recording everything he did.He held a yardstick and measured the distance from my bedroom to the bathroom. He was planning to lock me up.…Early the next morning, Seth left the house. I had no idea what he went to buy, but when he came back, he was extra cautious. My guess was that he'd bought an ankle shackle. When saving me from the basement, he'd broken the chain off my ankle himself, telling me any love that didn't give me freedom was selfish. Yet now, he wanted to cage me.Once Seth walked out of the bedroom, I opened my door and walked straight up to him."Cami, what's wrong?" He looked on edge.Seeing that I was awake, he rushed to explai

I said, "I don't feel awful."I clenched my hands together, my thumbs digging into each other. The pain snapped me back, and I glanced down. By accident, I caught a glimpse of Bianca's foot resting on Seth's leg under the table.Their faces, though, were completely calm, as if nothing was happening. They were practically award-winning actors. All the exhaustion I'd bottled up over countless days and nights finally blew up in that moment. After the dust settled, all that was left was anger.I finally understood why I was so tired.Every day, Seth acted like he was a devoted fiance, and I had to keep playing my part as his perfect other half, even though we both knew whatever we'd felt for each other was long gone.First, he wanted me to act like the doting girlfriend who was madly in love with him. Then, he needed me to play the gracious fiancee who didn't care he was cheating. Now, he even wanted me to act like I was a victim who'd been held captive, act like I still loved him,

  • I Let a Psycho Kidnap Me   Chapter 5

I said, "Enough, Seth. Stop pretending to be all devoted."Seth froze. "Cami, you're upset? Why?""Because you make me sick. Don't you get it? All of this was my—"Before I could get the word "choice" out, a paramedic jabbed me with a sedative. "The patient is under control. We're transferring her to the hospital for treatment…"…When I woke up again, three days had passed.A photo of Seth, backlit by the sun, had been snapped and blasted all over the internet as promo.Tons of people contacted me, saying that while I'd been missing, Seth had gone crazy looking for me. They'd congratulated me on having such a good fiance.I didn't reply to a single message. I just deleted them one by one.The moment I got back, I told Seth I wanted to call off our engagement. He acted like he hadn't heard me and just locked me up at home.He deleted Ashton's number from my phone. He didn't ask or explain anything; he just told me that he was doing this for my own good. After I was "rescued"
