Given the opportunity to meet Devan, Alexa hurried to Devan’s company. The moment she stepped into the lobby of DEV Group, her eyes were immediately drawn to the large logo behind the receptionist’s desk.

‘You can do this, Alexa.’ She took a deep breath and slowly exhaled.

Alexa truly had to be strong. Devan was known for being cold and ruthless; he did not hesitate to remove anyone he disliked. Alexa’s bold decision to request a meeting with him could easily be seen as an annoyance.

Even so, Alexa could not back down. She would face Devan, no matter the risk.

“Miss Alexa.”

Alexa shifted her gaze to a man standing in front of her.

“I’m Mike, Mr. Devan’s personal assistant.”

Seeing Mike extend his hand, Alexa slowly raised hers. As she returned the handshake, she introduced herself. “Alexa.”

Once their hands parted, Mike immediately gestured for Alexa to follow him inside.

Inside the elevator heading to the top floor, Alexa stood upright, her face calm, showing none of the fear she was currently feeling.

The elevator doors finally opened on the top floor. Mike walked ahead, with Alexa following behind.

When they reached a large door adorned with elegant carvings, Mike stopped and turned to Alexa.

“Mr. Devan is inside,” he said.

Alexa nodded softly. She knocked on the door before stepping inside.

As her feet touched the marble floor of the room, a cold aura immediately pierced her skin. When her gaze landed on the man sitting behind the desk, Alexa felt a powerful presence radiating from him.

His eyes were firm and deep, as if intimidating her.

“Mr. Devan.” Alexa’s voice trembled slightly. When her eyes met his gaze, her body suddenly froze, her feet unable to move.

Behind the desk.

Devan’s eyes were as sharp as an eagle’s as he looked at Alexa. He rose from his seat, pushing the chair back before stepping out from behind the desk.

“Miss Alexa, please have a seat.”

That deep, commanding voice pierced her ears. Alexa nodded and walked toward where Devan now stood, then took her seat.

When Alexa looked at Devan again, her body froze once more. His gaze was truly cold—just as people described—firm and intimidating.

Sitting upright as he looked at Alexa, Devan asked, “So, what is this profitable matter you mentioned?”

Alexa tried to remain calm, though she could not deny that her body was trembling.

“Mr. Devan, I know that you are pursuing a partnership with Mr. John. I have just gained Mr. John’s trust to arrange that cooperation. Are you interested in taking it over?”

Devan frowned deeply upon hearing her words. He leaned back, crossing one leg over the other, before speaking. “Aren’t you working for Ronan—my nephew, your fiancé? Why are you suddenly offering this cooperation to me?”

“Former,” Alexa corrected immediately. Her lips trembled as memories of Ronan and Felicya’s affair surfaced, but she forced herself to stay composed. “Ronan and I are no longer involved.”

Devan frowned again. “Is this some kind of trick?”

“No, Mr. Devan,” Alexa replied quickly. Lifting her chin slightly and straightening her posture, she tried to convince him. “Ronan and I truly have no relationship anymore. And if you are willing to accept this business cooperation that I have secured, I only ask for one thing, Sir. You wouldn’t pass this up, would you? A multi-billion-dollar contract already in my hands.”

Devan smiled faintly. “Miss Alexa, you seem very confident that I will accept your offer.”

Fixing his sharp gaze on her again, Devan continued, “And do you think you are in a position to ask for something in return? Partnerships like that are easy for me to obtain, Miss Alexa. Don’t underestimate me by assuming I would be interested in what you’re offering.”

After speaking, Devan stood up. While straightening the edge of his suit, he added, “You’d better have a stronger reason to change my mind.”

Alexa clenched the hem of her skirt tightly as she heard his words.

“If there is nothing else you wish to discuss, you may leave.”

Hearing Devan’s words and seeing him prepare to walk away, Alexa quickly stood up. With tear-filled eyes, she spoke, “I only want you to help me take revenge on Ronan. In return, I will become your assistant or spokesperson, ensuring that you secure major projects as repayment for your help.”

When Alexa saw Devan turn back toward her, her eyes glistened even more. Her vulnerable side surfaced, her gaze filled with sorrow as she spoke again, “Please, Sir. I only want to take revenge on him.”

Even though she didn’t truly remember, she understood what he meant. Her gaze stayed locked on him as she slowly nodded.“I … remember,” Alexa said hesitantly.Devan withdrew both hands from the edge of the desk. He stepped back, though his eyes remained fixed on her.“What do you remember?”His question made Alexa freeze for a moment. She truly couldn’t remember anything.Alexa sat there biting the tip of her thumb nail, forcing herself to recall last night’s events—but the result was the same.“This is really making me uneasy.” She ruffled her hair in frustration. “Why can’t he just tell me directly? Wouldn’t that be easier?”Alexa stood up after battling with her own thoughts for so long. She couldn’t remember anything because she had been drunk. Devan should at least explain if she had truly done something wrong. She stepped out of her room and walked down the stairs toward Devan’s study. When she arrived at the door, her hand lifted to knock. But she hesitated and pulled it back.“But what if he refuses to talk like earlier?”Alexa stood frozen in front of the door.Yet if she didn’t find out, the curiosity wou

The next day at the Ronan family residence.Martha shot Ronan a cold stare as he had just taken a seat in front of her. Annoyance was evident on her face as she saw how calm her son remained after ruining his engagement party with Alexa.“It seems like you don’t feel guilty at all toward Alexa, after what you did to her.”Ronan looked at his mother. He remained relaxed, choosing to sip his coffee instead of responding to Martha’s words.“Ronan, do you really not understand the consequences you will have to face? You let go of Alexa, who is clearly the Young Lady of the Ivander family, for the sake of a stepdaughter?” Martha’s voice rose when Ronan ignored her.Placing his cup back on the table, Ronan looked at Martha. “The one I like is Felicya, so I won’t regret letting Alexa go.”“Ronan!” Martha’s voice was shrill. “A woman like Felicya will not bring you anywhere. Felicya is only the stepdaughter of the Ivander family, she is no better than Alexa!”Ronan snorted. “But Alexa is bori

Valeria narrowed her eyes when she heard Devan’s reply. “Wife? What wife? When did Alexa get married?”After speaking, Valeria hiccupped before slumping back onto the sofa. Her consciousness was already as thin as tissue paper.Devan signaled for Mike to take Valeria away, while he approached Alexa, who had her eyes closed with a smile on her lips.“Let’s go home.” Devan extended his hand toward her.But instead of taking his hand, Alexa wagged her index finger in front of his face. “No, no, no. Alexa went to a club with Valeria. The two of them rented a private room to have fun together.“Alex, you still haven’t told me—how is it that your jerk of an ex-fiancé’s uncle ended up helping you?” Valeria asked curiously.Alexa widened her smile. “Well, because he knows who’s right.”She lifted her glass and downed the liquid inside the crystal cup.The sweet and bitter taste slid down her throat, slightly burning her chest.“Hm … that means the uncle is much better than that Ronan,” Valeria said before finishing her drink as well.A faint smile curved on Alexa’s lips. Of course, Devan was many times better than Ronan.Back then, Ronan never even cared whether Alexa was okay or not. Every complaint she made was dismissed as if it meant nothing.
