A smirk appeared on Devan’s face as he heard Alexa’s words. With a dismissive gaze, he said, “You know who I am, and you want to take revenge on Ronan through me? Are you trying to start a civil war?”

“I know.” Alexa’s gaze was filled with sorrow. “I shouldn’t have come here in the first place. I know it was wrong to ask for your help. If you are unwilling, I will find someone else—someone willing to stand on my side.”

Trying to regain her strength, Alexa then said, “Thank you for your time, Sir. I’ll take my leave.”

Before Alexa could fully turn away, Devan’s voice stopped her movement.

“What makes you want to take revenge on Ronan?”

Alexa turned back to face Devan. When their eyes met, she simply replied, “Personal matters.”

Devan’s expression changed. The look in his eyes was now impossible to describe.

“Marry me, and I will help you.”

Alexa flinched, her eyes widening at Devan’s words. “Are you joking, Sir?”

“Is your request a joke as well?”

Alexa’s body froze at Devan’s words, especially as his gaze grew even sharper.

“Accept it or not, I won’t make the offer twice.” Devan averted his gaze as he spoke.

Alexa clenched her fists tightly at her sides upon hearing Devan’s emphatic words.

Taking a deep breath while keeping her eyes on Devan, Alexa realized she had no choice. If she wanted to destroy Ronan and Felicya, she needed a powerful man behind her.

And Devan—the man who had a strained relationship with the Alistair family—was Alexa’s only hope.

“Well?” Devan pressed again. “I don’t have much time to wait.”

“I agree.”

A faint smile, barely visible, appeared on Devan’s face. “In that case, we’ll take care of the marriage today. The sooner, the better. And as proof that you won’t betray me, you will move into my house as my wife.”

Alexa swallowed hard. The choice had been made, and there was no turning back.

“Alright.”

At Ronan’s apartment.

The man was putting his clothes back on after freshening up.

“Do you really have to go back to the company now?”

Ronan was busy buttoning his shirt as he heard Felicya’s words. When his gaze fell on her, he said, “If I stay away too long, Alexa will get suspicious.”

“Besides, Alexa must have already returned to the company after meeting Mr. John. I want to hear the result, so I need to go back immediately.”

Ronan looked at Felicya’s sad face. He climbed back onto the bed and gently kissed her lips before saying, “Once we get what we want, we’ll get rid of her. Okay?”

Felicya smiled faintly at Ronan’s loving gaze. This man had completely fallen into her arms.

“Alright, I’ll patiently wait.”

Ronan lightly touched the tip of Felicya’s nose before saying, “Clever girl. I’m leaving now.”

Ronan left the apartment. He immediately returned to the company to meet Alexa.

Upon arriving on the floor where his office was located at Alistair Corporation, Ronan walked toward his workspace. However, his eyes did not find Alexa sitting behind the assistant’s desk near his office door.

Stopping right in front of Alexa’s desk, Ronan scanned the entire department before his gaze landed on the secretary.

“Where is Alexa?”

The secretary immediately stood up from her seat upon hearing Ronan’s question. She glanced briefly at Alexa’s desk before looking back at Ronan. “Alexa resigned, Sir. Didn’t you know? She left her resignation letter on your desk.”

Ronan’s eyes widened completely. “What?”

Ronan walked into his office. As soon as he reached his desk, his eyes immediately landed on the resignation letter lying there.

He took the paper out of the envelope, his eyes scanning every word typed on the page. At the end of the document, there was an HR stamp.

“What does this mean?”

"I don't mind. This is actually what I need right now."One of Devan's brows lifted as he studied the change in Alexa's expression. There was a trace of sorrow in her eyes."What's wrong?" he asked. "Is there another problem?""My mother's will," Alexa replied quietly. She tightened her grip on the edge of the blanket covering her legs and took a deep breath before continuing."My mother left me a considerable inheritance. But there are conditions attached to it."Her gaze grew even more distant."I can only claim the family's main assets in full if I'm legally married or at least have a life partner who is committed to spending the future with me.""And you've been hiding this because you didn't trust anyone?" The bedroom felt unusually quiet, filled only with the faint ticking of the wall clock and Alexa's soft breathing as she finally drifted into sleep.Devan remained seated at the edge of the bed, his gaze fixed on his wife's pale face. Alexa's fingers were still loosely wrapped around his wrist, as though she feared that if she let go for even a moment, he would disappear.Devan let out a quiet sigh. With his free hand, he gently brushed a few strands of hair away from Alexa's forehead. A strange warmth lingered in his chest, accompanied by a powerful protective instinct. He silently swore that he would never allow anyone to hurt Alexa again. While he was still watching over her, the phone in his jacket pocket vibrated softly.Moving as carefully as possible so he wouldn't wake her, Devan slowly slipped his wrist from Alexa's grasp. Ronan hurriedly answered the incoming call. One of his legs was crossed, his left arm rested on the back of the sofa, while his other hand held the phone against his ear.“Did you manage to find her?” Ronan’s smile spread perfectly. He could no longer wait for the results of his hired men’s surveillance.“Yes, Sir. We are tailing her now.”Alexa had blocked him and kept avoiding him. So now, Ronan had to act quickly before Alexa slipped out of his reach again.“Capture her, no matter how. I want her in front of me even if it has to be by force,” Ronan ordered.“Yes, Sir.
