Chapter 1.
Arya’s POV It was the date of my third wedding anniversary with my husband, Derek McClain, a date I had been looking forward to all day. I didn’t think Derek remembers though, seeing the way he hurriedly left for work very early without even a kiss, but I couldn't blame him, I know he's a busy man. My plan was to buy a few groceries and make a special dinner and I was in the middle of that when my phone rang, the housekeeper’s name flashing across the screen. “Ma'am, you have to come back home now!” She basically screamed at me through the phone. “What!? What's going on?” I asked worriedly, trying to remember if I had done anything before I left. “Your husband has planned a perfect surprise for you for your anniversary, you need to come home immediately.” Hearing her words, I left my cart in the middle of the aisle, not caring about what people would think about me and I ran out of the supermarket to my car. I can't believe I actually thought Derek forgot about our anniversary, of course he didn't. He just wanted me to let my guard down so he could plan something without me suspecting. On impulse, I stopped at a boutique along the way and bought a red lace lingerie set I would normally have dismissed as impractical. I walked into the house and the warm glow of candlelight hit me first. Candles flickered everywhere, their warm glow casting soft shadows along the walls, and rose petals were scattered across the floor, carefully arranged to form a winding path that led toward the staircase and probably to our bedroom where I could hear my favourite song playing softly from the speakers. My chest tightened with emotions I couldn't name, and I stood there for a few seconds to calm my racing heart. I couldn't believe Derek did all this for me. My heart hammered with excitement as I slipped out of my clothes with trembling fingers, replacing them with the red lingerie, and then I followed the trail of petals up the stairs. What the…. I paused in confusion as the sound of heavy breathing hit my ears when I got halfway up the stairs. But then I realised it's probably Derek panting from his workout routine. I left my grocery shopping and got back earlier than expected, so this is probably why I caught him working out. I adjusted my lingerie, took a deep breath, and pushed the door open… only to see Derek on my bed, our bed – his back muscles clenched together as hovered above a woman whose face I knew as well as my own. Cassidy…my sister, was naked under him and arching into his touch, her eyes closed as she was lost in passion with my husband on my matrimonial bed. The sound that escaped my mouth didn’t feel human. “De—Derek…” My voice broke as tears filled my eyes, my vision blurring as the room spun. Derek froze, then turned toward me slowly, irritation flashing across his face as if I was disturbing him. He gently got off Cassidy, who groaned in frustration and rolled her eyes, not even bothering to cover herself up. “What the fuck are you doing here?” he snapped at me. My knees nearly gave way. “W-what am I doing… in my own home?” I whispered, the words barely audible. “You were supposed to be at his grandmother’s place, dummy,” Cassidy cut in sharply, propping herself up on one elbow. “Who said you could just barge in here and ruin all the fun?” The tears I had been struggling to hold back started falling down my cheeks. “Fun?” I choked. “Sleeping with my husband is fun to you? How could you do this to me, Cassidy? We’ve known each other all our lives. How could you betray me like this and not even feel ashamed?” Derek leaned back against the headboard, a smirk tugging at his lips. “I don’t understand why you’re making such a big deal out of this. Would you prefer it if I cheated with a stranger instead of your sister?” “Don’t listen to her, baby. She’s just being dramatic. You’ve given her everything she could ever want, and she still failed to give you the one thing you asked for. Yet, she has the audacity to try to dictate who you can and can’t see.” Cassidy’s hand slid possessively along his thigh, taunting me. “This is about children?” I whispered. “About us not having a baby—” My fingers trembled as the tears multiplied, blurring my vision as I turned to Derek. “Don’t drag me into your infertility issues, you’re the one who has failed to produce an heir in the last three years of our marriage. How can you even call yourself a woman?” Derek thundered. I shook my head violently, clutching my chest. “This… this isn't my fault though. Every doctor, every hospital I have ever visited has said I’m fertile. I’ve done every test and every procedure you demanded. I gave up my career, my independence, everything for this marriage. Something should tell you that if I’ve been unable to conceive after all we’ve done, then the problem isn't from me.” “Oh, Arya. Bold of you to assume we don’t know you’ve been falsifying all those medical records.” Cassidy laughed cruelly. “I never—” “That’s enough,” Derek interrupted coldly. “Since you want to shift blame, you should know the truth. Jeremy is my biological son and Cassidy is his mother. I don’t have any problem with impregnating a woman. You’re the barren one.” What? Jeremy was…. I staggered backwards as I processed what Derek just said, crashing into the wall and falling to my knees as the revelation shattered what little remained of my sanity. Cassidy’s voice drifted toward me, almost amused as she explained how her so-called master’s program had actually been a pregnancy and how I had unknowingly raised her child for her. “I know you must have a lot of questions, so let me explain it to you. Do you remember that period I told you I’d be going for a one-year Masters program? Well, that was when I was actually pregnant and had privately delivered our son, Jeremy. You can be a pain in the ass sometimes, Arya, but I guess I should thank you for taking care of my son for the past two years,” she giggled. “My entire marriage was a lie,” I whispered under my breath as every memory and sacrifice I had invested in my marriage seemed to dissolve in front of me. I stood up dejectedly, grabbing a suitcase as I mechanically started packing my things. “Where the hell do you think you’re going?” Derek barked, finally getting out of the bed. “Somewhere far away from you.” I said as I stuffed more clothes into the suitcase, but he grabbed my hand and shot a terrifying glare at me. “You don’t leave unless I say so.” “You can't betray me like this and expect me to stay. You both deserve each other, expect my lawyers to contact you soon.” I spat at him. “In case you've forgotten, Arya, you're my wife. You can't leave until I say it's over.” I met his gaze through my tears. “Then say it’s over,” I said quietly. “Because I would never forgive you, Derek.” “No one said anything about forgiveness.” He smirked at me. “This is an open marriage, everyone does it these days so why do you need to leave? Just keep being Mrs McClain and I'll keep providing for you like I always have.” “I. Am. Leaving.” I forced through gritted teeth, wrenching my hand from his grip. “Get the fuck out then.” Derek screamed. “But you can't take anything that wasn't bought with your money. And last I checked…you used my money for everything. I moved away from the suitcase, removed all the jewellery I had on, including my wedding band and flung it in his face. “Goodbye, Mr McClain. And you,” I turned to Cassidy. “I hope you enjoy my leftovers. You've always had a thing for them.” And with that, I turned around and walked away from the life I once thought was mine, trying to ignore the feeling of my heart shattering into pieces.Chapter 167Blake's POVBy the time I pulled up in front of Arya’s house, my thoughts were messy, tangled with alcohol and frustration and emotions I no longer knew how to control.I stumbled out of the car and made my way to the door, knocking on it.Then the door opened almost immediately and there she was… Arya. She was dressed in a simple silk night dress, her hair looking slightly messy, but I couldn't take my eyes off her.“Blake?” she asked in shock as she stared at me. Before I could stop myself, I grabbed her arms, pulling her against me.“Blake—what are you doing?!”“I thought you were with Derek,” I muttered against her hair, my voice rougher than I intended. “I thought maybe you went to spend the night with him.”“What the hell is wrong with you?” she snapped, trying to push me away. “You're drunk, Blake. You need to leave. Now.”“I can’t stop thinking about you.” The words slipped out before I could stop them, and I watched as something flickered in her eyes before she b
Chapter 166Blake’s POVThe house felt unbearably quiet as I walked in. Everyone of my staff was still out celebrating our win, and I should have been doing the same, but watching Arya walk out with Derek had put a damper on my happy mood, and I wasn't in the mood to celebrate anything, not with the shit storm that was my life.I loosened my tie as I walked through the corridor upstairs, exhaustion sitting heavily on my shoulders, and not the kind that could be fixed with sleep either. My mind was still racing from the almost kiss I had shared with Arya, and although I had no right to want it as badly as I did, it still didn't stop me from wishing it happened. The feel of her in my arms, the sound of her laughter, the way she looked at me…My footsteps slowed as I realised I was at Ivy's door. For a few seconds, I simply stared at it. Five years… five entire years of existing in the same house while living completely separate lives.I had married her and given her my name, provided fo
Chapter 165Arya’s POVThe roar of engines filling the air, the vibration beneath my feet, the sharp scent of fuel in the air, the relentless rush of adrenaline that coiled tighter with every passing second as I watched the cars zoom past me. I had missed the Grand Prix.Everything I had been working towards in the past few weeks was hanging on this moment. The only thing I could think about at that moment was the race, the performance of the cars I had worked on, and the finish line. Nothing else was as important as this right now.“Come on…” I murmured under my breath, my fingers curling slightly against my sides as the final lap began, my heart beating faster in sync with the accelerating cars, every second stretching thin with anticipation.Beside me, the team was tense and nervous, their voices overlapping, but I could barely pay attention to what they were saying because my eyes were locked on the cars. One second we were behind, but then there was a turn and the car glided sm
Chapter 164Arya’s POVMy office door opened and Derek walked in holding a bouquet of flowers in one hand and a box of chocolates in the other, and as I watched him, I could not help but feel a little bit of irony at the situation.Because five years ago, this gesture would have been enough for me to fall for him. I would have thought him doing all this really meant he loved me, but now I could see through his performance, and looking at him, I felt nothing more than a hint of amusement and entertainment.“Arya,” he said warmly, his lips curving into a practiced smile as he approached my desk, placing the flowers and chocolates carefully on the table. I glanced at the huge roses briefly, trying to hide my disgust. We were together for three years and he still never figured out that I hated roses. Taking my eyes off the flowers, I looked back at him, forcing my lips to curve into a slight smile.“What are you doing here?” I asked in a cool, dismissive tone.Instead of answering me, h
Chapter 163Arya’s POVI sighed as I walked out of the conference room with a file tucked neatly against my chest, my mind filled with thoughts of all the work I needed to get done before the grand Prix. I missed when all I had to do was work on cars, now I had to handle unending meetings and office politics and a lot of things that I had no interest in doing. I had barely taken a few steps when I bumped into someone, but before I could fall flat on my ass, strong hands clamped onto my arms, steadying me. “Sorry,” I said automatically, taking a few steps back, my voice steady even as my pulse stuttered faintly in my chest. But when I looked up… the apology died on my tongue.Blake.For a moment, neither of us moved as we stared at each other. It had been a week of avoiding him, which had been quite easy considering the fact that we worked in the same building. And maybe because I finally let my guard down, I had to go and bump into him.The hallway around us carried on as though not
Chapter 162Arya’s POVI pulled into the parking lot of the bar the address the bartender had given me led me to, looking around in surprise and confusion. With its dim lights and graffiti painted walls, this was the last place I was expecting Blake to go drinking, especially with how unsafe it looked.I parked as fast as I could and ran into the bar, trying and failing to ignore the scent of alcohol, sweat, and smoke that filled the air.My eyes scanned the room for a few seconds before landing on Blake who was slumped over a counter, motionless. For a moment, I just stood there watching him. It didn't feel real, Blake was never the kind of person that would do this to himself. This version of him — disheveled, undone, stripped of the control and composure he carried so effortlessly — felt like something I wasn’t meant to see, something no one was supposed to see.“Are you Arya?” the bartender asked as I walked to the counter, standing next to Blake.“Yes.” I nodded, and she let out
Chapter 62Blake’s POVI didn't plan to leave the hotel this morning. If I was being quite honest with myself — which I rarely allowed these days — I was hoping Arya would still be asleep when I get back so that I would not have to explain why I needed to leave for a few hours on what was supposed
Chapter 61Arya’s POV“Mmmmmm.” I stretched in the bed as the sunlight filtered through the sheer curtains, hitting my eyes and forcing me to wake up.This was the best sleep I've had in forever. If this was how the honeymoon would go, then I don't mind spending the next couple of weeks cooped up h
Chapter 60Blake’s POVBlake, the truth is… what was she going to say before she was cut off? We had been on this plane for a while now but I couldn't get those words out of my mind. Something was telling me that whatever Arya was going to say was not something small or easily dismissed.I don't kn
Chapter 59Arya’s POVI let out a sigh of relief as the reception finally ended and we said our goodbyes to the guests before entering the car to take us to the airport. The airport lights blurred past the car windows like a river of white and gold as Tucker pulled up to the private terminal, but I
