Chapter 0002

Carol returned to her computer while massaging her aching face. Her phone vibrated in her pocket the moment she removed the USB.

Myka invited her to go to Uptown Bar after work. She said that she was not in a good mood and wanted Carol to drink with her.

Carol slathered foundation on her face. She did not want Myka to see the bruises left by Kieran’s grip.

It did not manage to fool Myka.

“Carol, why are you doing yourself so dirty? Kieran is treating you horribly! Why aren’t you divorcing his butt? Do you really intend to stay with him until you’re thirty or forty years old? Are you really going to waste your youth on a sc*m like him? It’s not worth it! Am I making myself clear? It’s. Not. Worth. It!”

Myka downed her shot and poured alcohol into Carol’s glass.

All Carol could hear was deafening music, yet she did not blend into the atmosphere of the bar in her black work suit and tied up long hair.

When Carol did not reply, Myka yanked Carol’s black hair tie off.

In an instant, her messy, waist-length, wavy hair spilled down her shoulders and framed her face, which made her stern and mature features look seductive.

“This is the Carol of Troy I know!”

Carol was the most beautiful woman in university, so Myka had come to call her Carol of Troy.

Carol had seductive eyes and a tall nose. Her face was also small. On top of that, she had fair and tender skin, and her hair was naturally wavy. She gave off a seductive charm without even putting on any makeup.

She had plenty of admirers, so her roommates also started calling her Carol of Troy. She could charm men by just sitting around and doing nothing.

However, no one ever heard any rumors of Carol flirting with anyone.

Everyone thought that it was because Carol had high standards or already had someone she liked.

To their surprise, before she graduated from university, she told them that she was going to marry Kieran Abner, the then successor of Abner Corporation.

Back then, Kieran was not a womanizer. He was actually very loyal to his highschool sweetheart, Aelia Rickton. This was a fact everyone in university knew.

Hence, everyone was caught off guard when Carol suddenly announced that she was going to marry him.

The result was that Kieran did not show up on their wedding day. Carol completed the wedding ceremony on her own.

At that time, as her bridesmaid, Myka was furious.

In the three years since the marriage, Kieran got worse and started fooling around with other women. He did not care that he was a married man at all.

Myka could not understand what had happened to this day. Why did these two people, who had nothing to do with each other, suddenly get married?

Also, Aelia left after Kieran married Carol. It was as if she had disappeared into thin air.

“Tell me the truth, Carol. Were you in some sort of trouble when you decided to marry Kieran?”

Carol picked up her glass and took a sip of the alcohol before she smiled at Myka. “Cut it out with the guessing game. Why would I have been in any trouble back then?”

“If you weren’t, did you actually marry Kieran because you fell in love with him?”

Carol’s eyes shone with sadness for a second. After some thinking, she said, “Perhaps.”

She put down her glass. Before Myka could ask another question, Carol stood up. “I’m going to the washroom. Continue without me.”

Carol did not go to the washroom. The bar was noisy, and she wanted a quieter place to calm the raging emotions in her heart.

When she remembered Myka’s question and how Kieran had said that she was less than a whore to him, she nearly cried.

Carol saw a room that was dark and pushed its door open.

The moment she went in and was about to allow herself to cry, someone slammed her against the door.

The smell of alcohol and cigarettes assaulted her senses, and the hand of the person holding her down burned her skin.

“Who sent you?!”

Who sent her?

Carol could not see the person’s face because it was too dark. She tried to push him away.

“Let me go!”
