Chapter 7

Author: Perfect Timing
But then, something I didn't expect happened.

The day I was pulled out of the lab by my supervisor and told to go get some rest, I saw the last people I wanted to see at the gatehouse.

David and Ben both came up at the same time. One grabbed my left arm, the other grabbed my right.

"Hannah, I got divorced…!"

They both spoke at once, looking at me eagerly.

"I only realized you're the one I truly love after you left. Karen fooled me in the past, but now I know I was wrong. Let's go back to how things used to be, okay?" David said.

Ben quickly added, "That's right, Hannah. It was all Karen's fault! We grew up together, and we were always meant to be together. She's the one who got between us."

Hearing the way they blamed everything on someone else without a hint of shame, I couldn't help rolling my eyes. "Oh, so what?"

"Weren't you listening? I got divorced. We can be together again." David held my arm tighter, his face full of urgency.

Facing the sharp gazes from both David and Ben, Karen forced a stiff smile. "David, Ben. You're both my husbands. Of course I like both of you. Didn't we agree from the start to live well together?"I'm still pregnant right now, and you're both taking turns pressuring me. Tell me the truth. Are you both regretting marrying me? Is that why you keep picking fights with me? The truth is, you're regretting it, right? I'm not Hannah. I didn't go to school as long as she did, and my family doesn't have money. I can't make your lives easy… But I really do love you."When she said this, David and Ben looked away from Karen. They knew she was right. They thought marrying Karen and being with the one they loved would mean an easy, happy life. Unbeknownst to both of them, all Karen could do was talk a good game. Karen wouldn't save any eggs for them like I did. She didn't help them with their work in the field in secret. She didn't have a way to get them jobs. After the wedding, their l

Naturally, there was no wedding dress. Not only was there no wedding dress, but the wedding was also the most miserable the village had ever seen.Because the three of them thought I had bought everything and were sure I would bring 5,000 dollars as a wedding gift, they didn't prepare anything at all.At the wedding, the guests just drank plain water. The neighbors who brought gifts didn't get anything to eat, which resulted in them not wanting to give the newlyweds any respect.Everyone chatted in the courtyard.Originally, they all thought that one woman marrying two men was quite outrageous. They called Karen shameless, while David and Ben were fools. Now, they mocked them without any consideration. The three newlyweds turned pale. Finally, Karen was the first to cry. "I gave up my pride and reputation to save you, and this is how you treat me..." She covered her face and ran back inside, lying on the empty bed and sobbing loudly. In the end, David and Ben each scraped to

During the days I spent on the train, I met others who were also heading out to help with the Northwest building project. We all dreamed about the future together, sharing our specialties and ambitions. Those few days of travel didn't feel hard at all. When my feet finally touched the barrens of the Northwest, I felt like my heart had truly found its home.In my last life, I wasted over a decade. I would only hear about scientific breakthroughs on the radio. Whenever I felt sad, I had to put those feelings aside and play the good wife for David and Ben.But in this life, I didn't need to have any regrets. I didn't have to let my teacher down. I could finally use everything I had learned. Just thinking about it made me feel full of energy—I was itching to get to work right away. After putting down my luggage, I only had time to write and send a quick letter home before I threw myself into research and construction.I felt like this was the life that was not a waste of my youth.

Over the next few days, I let myself enjoy all the love my parents had to give. They made sure I ate until I was stuffed. As they were worried I would go hungry in the future, they insisted I put on some weight before I left.I was unable to keep up with their overwhelming care, so I slipped out while they were in the kitchen making more food, hoping to walk off some of the calories. But the world was quite small indeed, as I ran right into Karen.Feeling my luck couldn't get any worse, I turned, but Karen acted like she didn't get the hint and quickly caught up to me. "Hannah, are you still mad at me? I didn't want this to happen, either! I have no idea how I ended up in that bed, but what's done is done. Can't you forgive me? Let's go back to how we used to be." She looked like she was about to cry, her voice choked with sobs. But to me, it just felt fake. She was the one who spiked their drinks. She was the one who opened the door and went into that room. Who was she tryi

Hearing my mother's harsh tone, David suddenly seemed to realize something and sneered, "Ha! So that's why you're being so generous, Hannah. Turns out you're just waiting for this moment? Yes, your family did help me a lot when I first came to the countryside—but that doesn't mean I owe you my whole life!"Ben also looked displeased. "I'm grateful your family took me in and raised me, but my heart belongs to Karen. I can't betray her. Hannah is just like a little sister to me."My mother turned red with anger, pointing at the two of them as if she might faint. "You ungrateful brats!"Afraid they would make her fall sick, I kept my face stern and said, "I won't marry either of you. Please leave my house. Now. From today onward, I want nothing to do with all three of you!"Not bothering to look at their reactions, I helped my mother back to her room and comforted her softly, "Mom, I really don't want to get married. I just want to live for myself now. I want to follow my teacher's ad
