The night air grew heavy.

The soldiers of the Eastern Dominion stood silently beyond the Silver Pass, their crimson banners fluttering in the cold mountain breeze.

No swords were raised.

No arrows were drawn.

Yet no one lowered their guard.

Karl stepped in front of Lyra, his silver eyes fixed on Queen Seraphina.

“You expect us to trust you?”

Seraphina met his gaze without flinching.

“No.”

“I expect you to protect her.”

Karl frowned.

“Then why are you here?”

The Queen took a slow breath.

“Because I failed once.”

“I refuse to fail again.”

Lucien slowly walked past Karl.

His blue eyes studied Seraphina carefully.

“It has been twenty-one years.”

“You haven’t changed.”

A faint smile touched Seraphina’s lips.

“You have.”

“You’ve become far grimmer.”

Lucien almost smiled.

“Life has a way of doing that.”

Arnold glanced between them.

“You know each other?”

“We fought together,” Lucien replied.

“During the Great Northern War.”

Seraphina nodded.

“And before Lunaris fell…”

“I was Queen Evelina’s closest friend.”

Lyra’s heart skipped.

“You knew my mother?”

Seraphina’s expression softened.

“I loved her like a sister.”

The Queen slowly removed a silver pendant from beneath her armor.

It was shaped like a blooming white rose.

“I believe this belongs to you.”

Lyra looked at it in surprise.

“I’ve seen that before…”

A memory flickered through her mind.

A warm summer afternoon.

Her mother laughing in a royal garden.

A woman with long black hair placing the rose pendant around her own neck.

“We’ll always be sisters.”

Lyra gasped.

“You…”

“You were there.”

Seraphina smiled sadly.

“I promised your mother that if anything happened to her…”

“…I would protect her daughter.”

Tears filled Lyra’s eyes.

“You kept looking for me.”

“For twenty-one years.”

“I never stopped.”

Karl noticed the sincerity in Seraphina’s voice.

But his instincts remained sharp.

“If you wanted to protect Lyra…”

“Why didn’t you find her sooner?”

A shadow crossed Seraphina’s face.

“Because someone kept leading me away.”

She reached into her saddlebag and removed several old letters.

Each carried the royal seal of Lunaris.

“I received messages claiming Lyra had died.”

Lucien examined one of the letters.

His eyes narrowed.

“The seal is genuine…”

“But the handwriting isn’t.”

Seraphina nodded.

“Someone forged them.”

Arnold clenched his jaw.

“The Shadow King.”

“Perhaps.”

Seraphina hesitated.

“Or someone who wanted us to believe he was responsible.”

The words unsettled everyone.

Another hidden player?

Another mystery?

Lyra thought of King Cassian’s burned letter.

The missing name.

The Guardian’s warning.

Trust no one.

The puzzle was becoming even more complicated.

Suddenly, Rowan rode in from the northern ridge.

His horse was breathing hard.

“We have scouts approaching!”

Damien immediately drew his sword.

“Whose?”

“They’re carrying no banners.”

Lucien frowned.

“That’s unusual.”

Moments later, five riders emerged from the trees.

They wore gray cloaks dusted with snow.

The leader dismounted and removed his hood.

He was an elderly man with white hair braided down his back and calm hazel eyes.

He carried no weapon.

Instead, he held a polished wooden staff.

The moment Lucien saw him, he bowed deeply.

“Master…”

Everyone stared in shock.

Lucien…

The Last Lycan General…

Had bowed.

The old man smiled warmly.

“You’ve grown stronger, Lucien.”

“And far more stubborn.”

Lucien chuckled softly.

“I learned from the best.”

The old man turned toward Lyra.

His eyes lingered on the Ring of Unity.

Then he smiled.

“So…”

“The prophecy lives.”

Lyra stepped forward.

“Who are you?”

He rested a hand over his heart.

“I am Master Thorne.”

“The last Keeper of the Moon Archives.”

“I have spent the last twenty years protecting the history your enemies tried to erase.”

Master Thorne reached into his robes and withdrew a thick leather-bound journal.

Its cover bore the crest of Lunaris.

“This belonged to your father.”

Lyra’s hands trembled as she accepted it.

She slowly opened the first page.

Written in elegant handwriting were the words:

If you are reading this, my little moon…

…then you survived.

A tear slipped down Lyra’s cheek.

She turned the page.

There was a family sketch.

King Alaric.

Queen Evelina.

A laughing five-year-old Lyra.

And…

Standing beside them…

A young man with golden eyes.

He wasn’t wearing black.

He wasn’t smiling cruelly.

He was carrying little Lyra on his shoulders while she laughed.

Lyra’s breath caught.

“That’s…”

“My Uncle Adrian.”

He looked nothing like the ruthless Shadow King.

He looked kind.

Happy.

Protective.

Master Thorne nodded.

“That is the Adrian I knew.”

Lucien looked at the sketch in silence.

“So much changed.”

Master Thorne’s smile faded.

“Yes.”

“And unless we uncover who changed him…”

“The same darkness may consume others.”

A cold wind swept through the Silver Pass.

The pages of the journal suddenly flipped on their own.

They stopped at a single entry written in haste.

Across the page, King Alaric had written only one sentence:

Never let Lyra discover what sleeps beneath Blackthorn Citadel.

Before anyone could react…

The ink began to glow crimson.

The letters slowly changed.

A new message appeared beneath them, as though written by an invisible hand.

Too late.

She is already coming.

The journal slammed shut.

A chilling laugh echoed across the mountains.

The Shadow King knew they had opened the diary.

And somehow…

He had answered.
