Chapter 2

Author: Celebrant
Gabriel stood in front of us, a line of pack guards behind him.

His expression was colder than winter frost.

Guilt shot through me like I’d just been caught in the act.

And yet—even like this, severe and terrifying—he was still breathtakingly handsome.

Exactly my type.

Tall. Noble. The kind of man whose mere presence made everyone else in the room fade into the background.

Gabriel’s gaze found mine first.

Before I could even hide the embarrassment on my face, his eyes drifted downward—To my hand.

My fingers were still hooked beneath the young wolf attendant’s chin.

In the next second—A low, threatening growl rolled through the room.

One of Gabriel’s guards stepped forward, claws half-shifted, pressing them lightly against the attendant’s throat.

The message was clear.

Move again and you lose your head.

Slowly… I withdrew my hand.

Under Gabriel’s gaze, the air seemed to freeze solid.

He didn’t even speak to me.

Instead, he glanced at the unfortunate attendant and said coldly,

“Get out!”

The boy’s face turned deathly pale. He and the other attendants scattered toward the exit like startled deer.

I turned as well, hoping to quietly slip away.

But I hadn’t even taken a single step before a strong arm wrapped around my waist and yanked me straight into Gabriel’s chest.

“Who gave you permission to come to a place like this?” he asked.

“I go wherever I want. What does it have to do with you?”

I lifted my chin defiantly.

Gabriel’s eyes darkened.

For one terrifying moment, I honestly thought he might snap my neck right there.

Instead—Without warning, he kissed me.Hard.

His mouth crashed against mine, his tongue forcing its way past my lips with raw, possessive hunger.

My mind went completely blank. The world spun.

Only when my breathing became ragged did he finally release me.

“You have a stubborn mouth,” he muttered.

And the next second—He hoisted me over his shoulder.

“Gabriel! What are you doing?! Put me down!”

I pounded his back, kicked, struggled—but he ignored me completely and strode forward.

He carried me straight out of the casino and dumped me into the backseat of a waiting black Mercedes.

The moment the door slammed shut, I lunged at him.

My claws slid halfway out as I grabbed his collar and shoved him back against the leather seat.

“Who gave you the right to drag me around like some animal?”

“Touch me again and I swear—”

“If I tried talking to you nicely,” he said casually, “would you actually listen?”

My fingers loosened on his collar.

Gabriel took another lazy sip of his coffee.

He stared right back.

“Didn’t you read the mating contract?” he asked.

Gabriel leaned closer. His face was only inches from mine.

Our noses were almost touching.

If he kissed me again right now…

I wasn’t sure I’d have the strength to push him away.

“It states,” he murmured, his breath brushing my ear,

“that my future Luna is forbidden from entering bars, nightclubs, underground casinos… or any place like this.”

Even if I had read it, what would it matter?

I wasn’t planning on marrying you anyway.

Of course, I didn’t dare say that out loud.

He leaned back and began lecturing me.

“From now on, you are banned from places like this.”

“As for what you did tonight—”

“You will report to the Moon Temple tomorrow and reflect on your behavior.”

I pressed my lips together, fighting the urge to laugh.

Gabriel.

Do you really think I’m still that girl from my previous life?

Your obedient little puppet?

This time, I would rather die than repeat that fate.

A mocking laugh escaped me.

“Reflect on what?”

“I’m not even your Luna yet!”

“And besides—your mating contract has nothing to do with me.I’m not marrying you.”

Silence fell instantly.

Gabriel’s head snapped toward me.For a split second, something like hurt flickered in his eyes.

Then it hardened into something dangerous.

He stared at me for a long time.

Finally, he asked quietly—almost like a warning,

“Then Who Do You Plan to Marry?”

My heart skipped.

Gabriel would never tolerate someone challenging his authority.

If he discovered the bride had been switched…

If he realized I had rejected him first…

I might never be allowed to leave.

“Nothing,” I said quickly.“I was just angry. I didn’t mean it.”

He exhaled heavily.

“When will you learn discipline?”

“Never,” I said, meeting his gaze.

“I don’t like being controlled. I like being free.”

We argued the entire way home.

When the car stopped in front of the house, Amelia stepped outside.

She wore a soft dress, her smile gentle and obedient—

The perfect candidate for Ironcrest Pack’s Luna.

I nearly laughed.

Gabriel.Look.

Here’s the perfect Luna you’ve always wanted.

Amelia spoke softly.

“I just returned from the Moon Temple.”

“I prayed to the Moon Goddess… asking forgiveness for my sister’s reckless behavior tonight.”

Gabriel’s gaze shifted toward me.

The message in his eyes was unmistakable.

Look at your sister. Why can’t you be more like her?

“I’m Gabriel Steele,” I said hoarsely. “Alpha of the Ironcrest Pack… and your fiancé.”My voice sounded like broken glass.“I found you.”Her name caught in my throat.“Abigail.”“I finally found you.”The words that followed were nothing like the commands I had spent my life giving as an Alpha. They sounded closer to a prayer.“Come home with me.”She frowned slightly, blinking as she studied my face like I was a stranger.“Alpha?” she said politely. “Hello… but I’m afraid we don’t know each other.”For a moment I couldn’t move.I had imagined this reunion a thousand different ways.None of them looked like this.My wolf roared inside my chest.“I could smell her.”“The same scent burned into my instincts. It was Abigail.”“She had to be pretending. She was angry. She wanted me to suffer first.Apologize.”My wolf snarled in my mind.Fix it. Now.“I know you’re angry with me,” I said quickly. “And you have every right to be. I ran out of the tower barefoot. The marble steps of the Ironcrest command tower were icy under my feet as I stormed down them, my jaw clenched so hard it hurt. I hadn’t slept all night. Exhaustion, fury, and something far worse burned behind my eyes, leaving them bloodshot. My car was already waiting outside, engine running. The private jet at Ironcrest Airfield had been ordered to prepare for immediate departure. The moment I slid into the back seat, someone stepped directly in front of the car.The driver slammed the brakes.Amelia.She wasn’t quietly crying this time. She looked desperate—hair disheveled, dress wrinkled, eyes swollen from days without sleep. She stood in the headlights like someone awaiting judgment.“Alpha… please.”Her voice trembled.“Please stop punishing the Ashford family. The pack has already taken our land rights and trade routes. My father can barely leave the house anymore.”She stepped closer to the car.“I know you’re angry. But Abigail left on her own.

My Beta burst into the Moon Temple like a storm. He shoved past the gathered wolves and rushed straight toward me, breathing hard.“Alpha… our scouts spotted Miss Abigail at the airport. She boarded a flight. They even managed to take a picture.”My heart slammed against my ribs.I snatched the phone from his hand. The image on the screen was grainy, taken from a distance—but I didn’t need clarity.A woman stood at the boarding gate with a suitcase, a cap pulled low over her face and a mask hiding half her features.I recognized her instantly.Abigail.My hand tightened so violently the phone cracked in my grip. The next second I hurled it against the marble floor. Metal shattered across the stone. My wolf roared inside my chest. The entire temple fell silent. No wolf dared speak.I lifted my head slowly, my voice low—like thunder gathering before a storm.“Seal the Northern Territories.”The words hung in the air like a command carved in stone.“Close every pack border.”“Notify all a

Gabriel POVThis was the grandest marking ceremony the Northern Territories had seen in decades. And it was mine.Everything followed the oldest traditions of wolfkind. Beneath the soaring dome of the Moon Goddess Temple, crystal-inlaid glass caught the sunlight and scattered it across the hall like shards of moonlight. Nearly every Alpha and noble bloodline from the North had gathered here, their low conversations filled with admiration and respect. They were talking about me.Gabriel Steele.Alpha of the Ironcrest Pack. And the woman I was about to mark.My Luna.I stood at the end of the temple aisle, my gaze fixed on the veiled bride waiting for me. Layers of white silk and lace concealed her figure, leaving only a quiet silhouette beneath the veil. And for the first time in days, I felt… relieved. At least she hadn’t insisted on showing up to the ceremony in one of those ridiculous outfits she loved so much—short skirts, leather boots, anything that would drive the elders of the p

Not long after, the doorbell rang.Amelia stood outside. Her face was pale, wrapped in several layers of bandages.“Alpha…I was worried about Abigail. Even though she hurt me tonight, I can’t bring myself to resent her.” she said weakly. She lowered her eyes.“I came to take her home.”Wrapped in a blanket, I walked into the living room.I was still wearing Gabriel’s shirt. When Amelia saw that, a flicker of jealousy flashed across her eyes.My gaze turned icy.I leaned closer and whispered into her ear.“Amelia… if you keep pretending to be the innocent victim, I’ll personally request the mating contract be dissolved.”Her voice died instantly.Fear flashed across her eyes. Before she could respond, Gabriel pulled me away, anger blazing across his face.“You’re bullying your sister again!Amelia is being generous.
