I Renovated Her House, Then Ruined Her Husband

She looked back at me through a blur of tears, her eyes filled with nothing but doubt.

“Sir, you’re just a common contractor. He could crush you with one hand.

“I appreciate your kindness, but you can’t help me.”

I waved my hand dismissively.

“How do you know unless we try? Are you really going to just sit back and let that toxic couple live happily ever after?”

I pulled a wet wipe out of my tool bag, wiped the dust off my hands, and slung the heavy sledgehammer over my shoulder.

“Let’s go. I’m taking you to crash their party.”

“Didn’t he say you were an embarrassment?”

“Today, we’re going to make sure he’s the one who is completely humiliated.”

When we arrived at the entrance of The Grand Horizon, a greeter stepped forward and blocked our path.

“Apologies, you two, but the restaurant has been fully booked for a private event today. We are closed to the public.”

The greeter’s gaze swept over my dust-covered cargo pants and Avery’s swollen, tear-stained eyes, his face twisting with a trace of undisguised contempt.

Avery lowered her head again, her palms slick with cold sweat.

I reached into my pocket and pulled out a sleek black card, flashing it directly in his face.

“Get your manager out here. Now.”

The greeter caught a glimpse of the card, and the dismissive smirk on his face vanished instantly.

He grabbed his walkie-talkie immediately, his voice trembling as he spoke. “Manager, we have a VIP.”

Less than a minute later, a chubby man in a sharp suit came rushing out of the elevator. He sprinted all the way over to me and bent forward in a deep, ninety-degree bow.

“Mr. Sterling! What brings you here? You should have given me a heads-up so I could come down and escort you personally.”

I ignored his flattery and simply gestured toward Avery, whose face was completely pale.

“My friend wants to go inside to attend an engagement party. Is there a problem?”

“No problem at all! Of course there’s no problem!”

Sweat was practically pouring down the manager’s forehead.

“The Vance engagement party is on the top floor. I’ll escort you up right away.”

As he spoke, he personally led the way, pressing the button for the exclusive VIP elevator to the top floor.

Avery followed closely behind me. She stared at my back, her eyes wide with absolute shock and utter confusion.

I didn’t bother to explain.

It wasn’t like I could tell her that I only took up contracting to experience normal life because I was completely sick of the vicious infighting and power struggles within my own family.

As for being a demolition worker? Smashing those concrete walls was just my therapeutic way of taking out my aggression on the toxic parasites back home.

The elevator doors slid open, and the vibrant sound of music mixed with the lively chatter of guests washed over us.

Right on the center stage, Julian stood holding a microphone, wearing a pristine white suit and sporting a radiant smile.

A woman dressed in a stunning red gown stood right beside him, her arm looped tightly through his. Her stomach was also slightly rounded, sporting a noticeable baby bump.

Julian’s parents stood off to the side, their faces flushed with pride as they raised their glasses to toast the guests one by one.

“Today marks the engagement between me and Cynthia,” Julian announced into the microphone. “I want to thank all of our friends and family for coming out to—”

Before Julian could even finish his sentence, I marched straight toward the base of the stage, still carrying the heavy sledgehammer over my shoulder.

I slammed the butt of the sledgehammer hard against the floor, sending a resounding, booming crack echoing across the marble tiles.
