RACHEL

“What! Are you mad?” I yelled, eyes widened like I’d just seen a ghost. He was unbelievable, and he just had a knack for pissing me off.

He kneaded the bridge of his nose as he stared at me, a smirk tugging at his lips. “You shouldn’t call me mad when I’m yet to give a proper explanation,”

“What stupid explanation do I need?” I hit the table. “Your statement is as clear as crystal. You simply want me to cheat on my husband,”

“Oh! You’re smart after all,” He mumbled.

I scoffed, “You’re unbelievable,”

“I don’t think it’s a bad thing to do. He cheated on you first,” He countered.

“And you think two wrongs make a right?” My brows creased. “No, mister,”

“This is not you making a wrong. It’s trying to amend things,” He calmly explained. “Do you think any man will be excited to know his wife has another man? No. He’ll definitely be scared and do everything to win you back,” he added.

To be sincere, his statement piqued my interest, and I hated that, for a second, I considered his solution. Having a boyfriend? No matter how sugarcoated the word was, it was still cheating. No two ways about it. And cheating was against my principles. It wasn’t something I planned to do. Not now. Not even in the future.

I shook my head, “That’s not a solution, mister. That’s leading me to hell,”

“What hell is greater than your marriage?” He countered almost immediately, his words clawing deep into my heart. Gosh. He was right. No other hell could quantify it.

But hearing the truth from a stranger wasn’t something I would settle for. Instead of responding to him, I handed my card to the bartender, paid for my drinks, and stood up. My vision blurred, and a weighty wave almost pushed me back to my seat, but I held myself before that could happen. I wouldn’t have known I was this drunk if I hadn’t stood up. While all this was going on, he didn’t take his eyes off me. I felt restless and uncomfortable. What the hell did he want from me?

“Thank you for your advice, but I’d also advise that you keep your mouth shut next time,” I clenched my jaw. “Yunno… your silence can be golden next time,”

He smiled, the type that cringed and creeped me out. “I’ll remember your advice next time, milady,” He bowed.

The silly smile didn’t leave his lips, and it only caused me discomfort. Whoever he was, I just hoped we wouldn’t have a reason to meet anymore. I strolled past him, my legs almost collapsing into each other, but I carefully took each step, refusing to give anyone a show of my tipsiness.

I reached outside. The night breeze blew across my face, seeping into my skin and sending chills down my spine. Goosebumps rose on my skin. The tense moment didn’t let me change my dress before leaving home tonight. The light short dress I usually wear around the house was the only thing I had on. No coat. No cardigan.

Instinctively, I crossed my arms over my upper body, blowing out some air while I waited for an empty cab to drive by. I felt a sudden movement behind me, and before I could think of turning, a fabric landed on my body.

“My advice might not be what you need, but my suit might be what you really need,” the voice of the stranger I met inside reverberated.

He stepped forward, revealing his damn cute face, but I didn’t revel in it. He was only a fine face. He didn’t have any brain. How could he ask me to leave my husband?

“Take your suit away. I don’t need…”

“Are you planning to freeze to death since your plan to drink yourself to death was ruined by me?”

My mouth parted, ready to deny the allegation, but he beat me to it. “Then accept the suit if you think it’s just a misunderstanding,”

My lips pressed thin. He was impossible. There was no need to indulge him further.

At the same time, a cab pulled over beside us. Swiftly, I opened the door and hopped in.

“Drive, please,” I told the driver as soon as I settled in, avoiding the stranger’s face. He nodded and began the trip. It was only after we moved past the club that I realized I’d been holding my breath. I breathed out heavily, my lungs relaxing and thanking me for saving them. I couldn’t understand why his presence was both torturing and comforting.

Loneliness seeped into my heart the moment I stepped into the house. The reality I thought excessive alcohol could erase came crashing back, this time with more brutality and torment. The silent living room stared at me, as if mocking me for walking back into the reality I ran from earlier that day. My heart twitched like it was being pricked by thousands of needles.

When I climbed the stairs and turned the corner of the hallway, I couldn’t believe the sight I met. My steps slowed as the twitching in my heart intensified.

RACHELI let out a weak snicker. “You… You didn’t mean that, do you?”He was damn joking. That had to be it. There was no fucking way he was seriously telling me to do that when he knew I’d been held captive somewhere.“I’m serious, Rachel. You have to break up with him if you want me to pay your ransom,” he asserted.I snorted, feeling a squeeze in my chest and a lump in my throat. I blinked, tears rushing to my eyelids.Of course, we weren’t exactly in a perfect situation, but making such a proposition when I was in obvious trouble? That was the height of it all. Or did he think I was joking? That had to be it. I blinked. My hope renewed once more. That had to be the reason Jeremy was being like this. There was no way he would negotiate at the expense of my life.“Jeremy, I know you think I’m just pulling your leg, but I’m not.” I glanced at the man crouching in front of me and lowered my head in embarrassment, pressing my lips thin. “I… I can send you proof. Believe me, Jeremy. I’m

RACHELMy eyes opened slowly as sounds of hysterical laughter wafted into my ears and the thick scent of cigarette smoke filled my nose. I glanced around and realized we were inside an old, large container with two small windows on each side where the rays of light were filtering through. They were seated on an old, dilapidated couch while holding cigarettes between their fingers. My eyes squinted as I stared at the smoke drifting upward and slowly dissipating into the air.A whiff of it hit my nose and rushed into my throat, restricting my airflow and causing me to choke. I let out an incessant cough, alerting them to my consciousness. One of them, the red-haired one who had put a gun to my back at the cinema, stood up and walked over to me.“You’re finally awake,” he muttered, a smirk appearing on his lips that made my stomach churn. If I wasn’t his captive, I would have definitely rolled my eyes, hissed, and maybe insulted him.“Who are you?” I asked, trying so hard not to let the

RACHELOf course, that was it. That was the only reason he could be so mad and out of line. I scoffed, darting a disbelieving gaze at him and trying not to throw up out of disgust.“We had an agreement, Jeremy,” I said. “An agreement, for fuck’s sake. You were meant to break up with Clara first before…”He cut me short with a snort. “Do you know what your problem is, Rachel? You keep thinking you are equal to me, and that’s fucking irritating.” He slapped the table and rose to his feet. “I’m a man. I can do whatever I like. But you…?”He swept an appraising gaze over me as if gauging my worth. “You’re just a woman,” he leaned forward. “You’re meant to uphold your virtue, and cheating because I cheated is not it.”At that moment, I didn’t know what provoked my laughter. His statement, his reaction, or everything? He just sounded stupid to me, and that was disappointing. I erupted into laughter, watching as his face morphed through different expressions. Then, the laughter suddenly hal

RACHELFor reasons unknown, Jeremy didn’t speak about the issue we had yesterday. In fact, he didn’t speak to me at all. He just stayed in the bedroom with his girlfriend, Clara. This morning, I woke up and realized they had both left home. Of course, Jeremy had to resume at the office, but Clara? A log of wood had been more active than her since she stepped into this house. She didn’t cook or clean. The only thing she did was cling to Jeremy all day and warm his bed at night.Ignoring the awkward silence in the house, I strolled out, hopped into my car, and drove to the company. As soon as I got down, the first set of people I met stared at me weirdly. Another group of employees stayed to the side, murmuring among themselves while glancing at me. Their eyes were filled with pity and judgment. My steps slowed, and my throat dried. What was this? I glanced around at the workers, and they instantly lowered their heads the moment my eyes fell on them.It was suspicious, and it sent an ee

RACHELI paced up and down, inspecting everyone who stepped out of the elevator, but none of them was Sebastian. He’d been in Jeremy’s office for more than an hour. I didn’t know what was going on in there and, heck, I was so fucking scared.I made a mistake today. I shouldn’t have kissed him. I shouldn’t have enjoyed it. I should have pushed him away when he tried to kiss me. Now, I was stuck between two men.I could bet that Jeremy was furious. What if he misunderstood things? Yeah, I wanted to mend my marriage, but what if this one mistake ruined things?I was still deep in thought when I heard Sebastian’s voice.“Rachel!”When I turned in his direction, I saw him wave at me with one of the prettiest smiles tugging at his lips. Gosh. I’ve been destroyed. Why did I smile back like someone who had lost her sense of reasoning? A while ago, I was certain I made a mistake. We made a mistake. So why did I grin like someone whose life was perfect and on track? Like her husband hadn’t just

SEBASTIAN If I could punch Jeremy for walking into Rachel’s office when he did, I fucking would without thinking twice. He came over and ruined a great moment for me. God knows how long I’d been waiting and dreaming for this day, and who would have thought that I would barely get the chance to savour it when it finally happened? And everything was because of him. And what was that on his face? Anger? Jealousy? I just hoped it wasn’t either of those because dude had no reason to be. As I followed him to his office, I wished he could just slip and fall over. You can call me petty, please. I would bear that title with my arms raised akimbo. “Please, have your seat, Mr. Raymond,” Jeremy pointed to a chair across from his. My eyes scrutinized the whole place as I walked to the chair. I nodded. “Not bad. Your taste in decor isn’t as bad as you,” “Mr. Raymond,” He cleared his throat. “Please, mind your speech,” I mouthed, “Oh!” poking the table. “I must have forgotten I’m here for busi
