Chapter 3

The chat in front of me immediately started popping up again.

[Girl, your match is already set. Stop making a scene.]

[Why do you have to pick Max? Didn’t you see how arrogant Mrs. Lawrence was just now? They clearly don’t want you in their family.]

[Girl, don’t mess this up.]

Seeing all these comments, I could not help but laugh. I shook off Daniel’s hand and said to them, “I’ll never marry you. Give up on that idea.”

My father’s face turned red with anger. “You don’t get a say in this! I’m announcing the engagement right now! The wedding will be in three days!”

“No way!”

I tried to rush out, but the bodyguards pushed me down and held me on the floor. Pearl walked over to me.

“Mindy, don’t make Dad sad, okay?”

I glanced at her. “I’m not your sister. My mother only gave birth to me.

“I’d rather die than marry him.”

“You don’t get a choice in this!” my father shouted. He quickly softened his tone. “Mindy, I’m doing this for your own good.

“You’re an adult, and I have never asked anything from you. But you don’t understand. Our company is already in serious trouble.

“If we get help from the Quinn family, all our supply chain factories will be settled.”

In my father’s eyes, I was nothing more than a pawn to be exchanged for profit.

Unfortunately, Daniel was useless. In my past life, he took out his frustration on me whenever things went wrong. He never made any progress in his career either.

Even if I married him, I could not help the Sullivan family stay afloat. But my father could not see that. He only wanted to give the best to his daughter.

Pearl was his favorite.

I was about to argue when Daniel said, “Don’t worry. I’ll treat Mindy well.”

I looked at his vicious gaze and felt a chill run through me. Pearl then said, “Why don’t we let Mindy go to Daniel’s place today so that they get to know each other?”

I quickly turned to her. Pearl’s eyes were full of viciousness. My heart sank.

My father waved his hand. The bodyguards dragged me toward Daniel’s car and shoved me inside. I struggled hard. My father responded with two slaps. Blood came out of the corner of my mouth, and my ears rang loudly.

At that moment, I finally understood that the nightmare from my previous life never really went away. Tears streamed down my face.

A dark glint appeared in Daniel’s eyes.

“I heard the Sullivan family’s young lady is spoiled. I am finally seeing it for myself. Don’t worry. I’ll be very gentle.”

Seeing his expression, I shivered. A deep sense of despair rose in my chest. I did not want to live like that again. I did not want it.

Unfortunately, the driver stepped on the gas and drove off. I watched the scenery outside rush backward, and I felt completely hopeless.

If I went with him, I would only be beaten to death like before. I would rather jump out of the car.

Daniel grabbed my hand and let out a cruel smile. “Mindy, don’t even think about it. I won’t let you die.”

I lowered my head and bit down hard on his wrist. He cried out in pain. I took the chance to open the car door and tried to jump out.

At the last second, the car screeched to a stop.

Daniel immediately realized what I was trying to do. He grabbed my hair and slapped me hard across the face.

The force almost knocked me out.

Just then, the driver stammered, “Mr. Quinn, that car is…”

Fear appeared on his face.

Daniel also saw who was in that car. He immediately let go of me.

I finally let out a sigh of relief. He was here at last.
