Chapter 4

Author: Ocean Cloud
Before long, a top-of-the-line luxury car pulled up.

"Wow, Ms. Sweeney is here!"

The door opened, and Sherry stepped out wearing an haute couture evening gown. She was radiant as a star in the sky.

Harold, standing beside her, was also dressed in a sharp suit and looked exceptionally handsome.

"Ms. Sweeney looks just like a big-time star, and her husband's so handsome, too!"

"They really are a perfect match!"

The crowd showered them with compliments.

Harold wore a confident, smug smile.

Sherry linked her arm through Harold's, and the two walked elegantly down the red carpet toward Seasky Villa.

I seized the opportunity and rushed straight toward them.

The moment Harold saw me, a flicker of panic crossed his eyes, but he quickly regained his composure.

As for Sherry, her gaze toward me was cold.

"What are you doing here? Today is Harold's birthday. Don't come here to cause trouble.

"But if you come to your senses and kneel before Harold and apologize, I'll let you return to the Sweeney family and resume your life of luxury."

"I'm not here to cause trouble, nor am I here to apologize. I just want to give you this." I handed her the divorce agreement. "Take a look. If there are no issues, then you can—"

I had not finished speaking yet when Harold stepped forward. "Liam, today is my birthday party. It's so great that you came to celebrate with me!"

"Hurry! Come inside with me." Harold put his arm around my shoulder in a fake, friendly gesture.

His gaze was icy.

Suddenly, Harold shoved something into my hand.

Before I could even react, Harold quickly raised his hand and grabbed the blade.

The sharp edge immediately sliced through his hand, and blood stained his hand red.

He let out a cry. "Liam, I know I was wrong. I shouldn't have come back to look for Sherry. Please, spare me! Don't kill me, okay?"

It all happened so fast and so suddenly.

When everyone saw this, they all scrambled to step back.

A look of anxiety flashed across Sherry's face. She rushed toward Harold and shielded him. "Harold, are you okay? You're not hurt, are you?"

"My hand hurts so much…"

"Doctor! Doctor!" Sherry cried out anxiously.

Medical staff rushed over immediately. Sherry called over the security guards. "Liam, you've really gone too far this time! You've become even more ruthless! How dare you hurt Harold?

"Hit him! Hit him hard!"

I snapped back to my senses and threw the knife on the ground. "Sherry, it's not like that! I didn't—"

Before I could finish, security guards rushed over and knocked me to the ground.

A few of them swarmed me.

Sherry's eyes were red. "This time, you've really crossed the line! I'm furious. Hurting Harold is the same as hurting me!"

Punches and kicks rained down on me, and I was soon covered in blood.

Harold suddenly said, "Sherry, it's okay. He probably didn't mean it. He was just overcome with jealousy for a moment, thinking you were too kind to me. Let him go."

"Jealous? What right does he have to be jealous of you? If you hadn't donated your kidney to me back then, would I even be alive today?

"Yet he had the audacity to hurt you time and time again."

I stared at the two of them huddled together. The spark in my eyes faded bit by bit.

I did not know when it happened, but the security guards had thrown me outside the venue.

I was covered in blood, and I could feel the warmth rapidly draining from my body.

Suddenly, there was a booming sound as fireworks burst in the sky one after another.

I looked up at the dazzling sky.

It was breathtaking.

Yet none of that was for me. Instead, I was waiting to die in a pile of trash.

Three days later, in her office, Sherry opened the document I had handed her. When she saw that it was a divorce agreement, her brows furrowed.

Just then, her phone suddenly rang.

It was an official call. "Hello, are you Sherry Sweeney, the wife of Liam Sullivan?"

Even though she did not want to admit it, Sherry said reluctantly, "I am. What's the matter?"

She gritted her teeth and spoke with difficulty, shamefully acknowledging the truth.

"Here's the situation. Your husband, Liam, was confirmed dead last night. Please come in to sign the authorization for an autopsy."

"Can you stop pretending you love him so deeply? Deep down, you're just like me—selfish and cold-hearted.""No, I'm not like you!"Sherry shook her head."If you really want to avenge Liam, then kill me. Do you have the guts to kill me?"Provoked by Harold's repeated taunts, Sherry drew a dagger.Realizing what Sherry was about to do, I tried to stop her."Sherry, don't!"I stood in front of Harold, but it was no use. Little did he know that Sherry already knew the whole truth. She slapped Harold across the face. "Are you still going to lie to me?"Harold rubbed his swollen cheek but continued to deny it. "When have I lied to you?"It was not until Sherry laid the evidence right in front of him that Harold could no longer refute it.His face was ashen. He looked at Sherry and tried to manipulate her. "Sherry, listen to me. I didn't set out to get revenge on Liam. When I first heard you were marrying him, I was truly filled with hatred. I wished he were dead."But when I came back to you and realized you still loved me as much as ever, my hatred for him faded. I just wanted to be closer to you, which is why I resorted to such a desperate measure. "I just wanted to teach him a lesson to make him walk away from you on his own. I never intended to kill him."I could not help but laugh. Even in the face of such irrefutable evidence, he managed to come up with such a ridiculous excuse.Sherry s

One of the videos showed Harold on his birthday falsely accusing me of hurting him.I was a little surprised. I hadn't expected Mr. Sweeney to have tracked down that video too. There were also clips of me on the streets, looking pitiful as I rummaged through trash cans for food.Mr. Sweeney was deeply distressed."Sherry, why did you treat Liam this way?"Faced with Mr. Sweeney's questioning, Sherry did not know how to respond. Her intention had simply been to make me suffer a little, to force me to back down, and to make me admit my mistake. She never imagined I had endured such torment."I really didn't know things would turn out like this!"Sherry slapped herself hard across the face twice. She was overcome with self-loathing. "It's all my fault for being so stupid! I caused Liam's death!"Liam, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry…"Sherry cried so hard that she nearly fainted.Seeing her in such agony, I could not help but want to step forward to comfort her and to wipe away her te

At the same time, he ordered his bodyguards to keep an eye on Harold. As Harold watched the two walk away, a sense of foreboding welled up inside him.He tried to slip away, but the bodyguards immediately stopped him. "Mr. York, you can't leave yet.""Really? You think I won't call the police and report you for unlawfully holding me against my will?" Harold tried to threaten them.As a result, he was beaten up until he backed down.Mr. Sweeney led Sherry to the study and placed the items he had prepared in front of her.I leaned in to take a look. It was the surgery consent form from when I donated a kidney to Sherry, along with some videos. When Sherry saw that the signature on the consent form was mine, her eyes widened in surprise. But her first reaction was still one of skepticism. "Grandpa, this is fake, right?""Don't you trust me anymore?" Mr. Sweeney sighed heavily. "If I'd known this would happen, I would've told you the truth from the very beginning."Sherry's hand

The police officer's words left Sherry completely dumbfounded."How could this happen? He had a terminal illness?! Why didn't he tell me?" Sherry was emotional.I thought she would be indifferent to my death. Her reaction told me that she still cared about me, after all."We don't know the answer to that. Once we've gone through the formalities, you can take the body home."Sherry looked at my scarred body, and tears streamed down her face. With trembling hands, she cupped my cheeks. Her voice was choked with emotion. "Liam, you always lie, don't you? You're lying to me now, aren't you? Open your eyes and look at me!"Warm tears fell onto my cold body."Liam Sullivan, if you don't wake up soon, I'm really going to get very angry!"It did not matter. The only response was silence.I stood right beside her and felt the sorrow radiating from her. It was almost unbelievable.Did she not hate me?I was dead. When it came to me, Sherry felt nothing but disgust. Her voice turned icy. "What right does he have to be upset? Today, he made someone call me to say that he was dead. Maybe he thought I'd go see him. How ridiculous!"A barely perceptible flicker of emotion crossed Harold's eyes. "Well, he really did go too far this time. Sherry, I'd like us to wear them together. Is that okay?""Sure," Sherry said with a smile.Right in front of me, the two of them pinned the brooches on each other.I smiled bitterly, then I began to cry.It seemed even spirits could shed tears.I wanted to leave Sherry so badly.
