“If you hit me again, I’m going to call the police!”

Gabby rolled her eyes in anger, and she looked even more disdainful.

She rummaged through her bag for a while before taking out her wedding certificate and showing it to everyone.

“Dan and I have been married for three years. He brought me to the city hall to register our marriage.

“Over the past three years, he always went overseas. I saw your details on his phone, and he told me that you’re just best friends. After digging through his social media accounts, I saw your photos with him.

“How is it possible for a guy and a girl to be platonic friends? You’re the homewrecker of my marriage!”

Her group of friends also started talking.

“I bet she’s always by Mr. Anderson’s side as his best friend. Now that he’s rich and successful, she’s coming back to get rid of you. What a great plan!”

“That’s right! If this was in the past, we could’ve burned her at the stake for being a witch!”

My mind went blank.

I snatched the wedding certificate from her hand.

It was indeed Dan.

Before I could speak, I suddenly received a text message.

[Ms. Eleanor, Mr. White is about to go. He wants to see you for the very last time.]

I did not hesitate as I quickly said, “Ms. Reid, I’ve been married to him longer than you have. I think you should double check if you’ve been scammed.

“My grandfather’s seriously ill. I have to leave first, but my lawyer will be in contact with you!”

I wanted to rush out, but she still held my wrist stubbornly.

Gabby glared at me coldly and asked, “Why are you in a hurry to leave? Is it because you’re afraid of being exposed as a homewrecker?”

I was furious after being held back again.

I already told her that my grandfather was ill, and that it was an emergency. However, none of those words had sunk in.

At the same time, someone spoke up.

“I’m a staff member at the city hall. I can help you to check the legitimacy of your registration.”

Even though I was short of time, if I did not prove it to them, they would think that I was escaping out of guilt.

I acknowledged Gabby for the very last time. “I’ll go with you. After that, do not stop me!”

I anxiously asked the butler, Harold Scott, about my grandfather’s condition. I was afraid that I would not be able to make it.

Harold sent me a video of my grandfather calling out my name. He looked like he was on his last breaths.

I immediately teared up. I looked at the staff member, Samantha Rogan, anxiously as I sobbed.

“Is it done? I really have to leave.”

Even though I was anxious, I comforted Gabby out of goodwill.

“This is very suspicious. After this, please contact my assistant to see if this is a new scam tactic.”

No matter who was the person impersonating Dan, I would not let him off the hook.

Dan was the CEO of Star Corporation.

It was the company that my grandfather had left me. This scandal may very well be a trap to ruin Star Corporation’s reputation.

Samantha carefully scrutinized the marriage certificate before looking at me strangely.

She carefully passed Gabby’s marriage certificate back to her.

“The serial number on your certificate is authentic!”

Then, Samantha looked at me mockingly. She threw my marriage certificate onto the floor.

“You’re so certain that yours is legitimate, but I can’t even locate your serial number!

“I bet you’re lying. Mr. Anderson has been very popular these past couple of years! As expected, any Tom, Dick, and Harry will flock to him after he is rich and successful.”

I was shocked as I exclaimed, “How is that possible?!

“I knew Dan for ten years, and we’ve been married for five years. How is my marriage certificate fake?”

I bent down and picked up the marriage certificate from the ground as I wanted her to look at it again.
