Chapter 2

Author: Golden Time
That night, I pulled an all-nighter. My father must have overslept because he was too tired, so he forgot to wake me up in the morning.

Hence, the next day, I was late for school. My teacher asked me to stand outside of the classroom as a punishment.

The disciplinary teacher passed by and checked our attire. He immediately pulled me aside.

“What’s your name, and which class are you from? Why aren’t you dressed like a student? Where’s your uniform?”

I grabbed my bag’s zipper, but my heart felt heavy when I heard my classmates’ snickers.

“Do you think Ben will buy a new school uniform?”

“He’s so poor! How could he spend a fortune to buy another uniform? I bet he’s still wearing the same torn uniform from yesterday.”

“I’m talking to you. Are you deaf?!” the disciplinary teacher yelled at me. “Are you not going to listen to me? In that case, I want to see your parents!”

When I heard that he wanted to see my father, I disregarded the humiliating feeling and quickly put on the uniform that I had spent the night stitching.

Immediately, I heard laughter from my classmates.

Tears immediately welled up in my eyes. I could feel the wounds on my body stinging from the breeze.

My father told me that I had a bad temper since I was little. I would not allow anyone to take any advantage of me.

When I first went to high school, I could not stand the sight of Jimmy bullying other students. Hence, I helped the other students many times.

However, when Jimmy targeted me, no one helped me.

Leon Scott, who had been badly bullied back then, even joined Jimmy in bullying me.

I was going against ten people, and I was not losing.

As expected, all of our parents were called to school.

My father had an old apron and a mask on. It was obvious that he had rushed over from his food stand.

I did not cry when I was badly beaten or when the disciplinary teacher wanted to suspend me. However, when I saw my father rushing over, I let down my guard, as I felt that I finally had someone who would support me.

“Dad…”

Before I could call out to him, my father glanced at Jimmy and immediately walked toward me.

He slapped me forcefully.

He pointed at me and yelled, “How many times have I told you not to bully others in school? Why have you turned into such a disobedient kid?”

I wanted to defend myself, but my cheek was burning with pain. My words were stuck in my throat.

Jimmy became even more obnoxious after that.

He would get people to hit me in an alley way. I tried to fight, but he pulled out a photo of my dad at his food stand.

He leaned against the wall and said lazily, “I’m warning you. You’d better be good. You know what I’m capable of. Whatever you don’t suffer, I’ll make your dad suffer twice as much.”

Initially, I did not believe him. That was until I saw some obvious burn marks on the back of my father’s hands.

My father claimed that a customer had accidentally spilled oil on him. However, I knew that this was punishment from Jimmy when I stopped his attempt to burn me with a straightening iron.

“I’m sorry, Dad. I’m sorry.” I sobbed. It felt like I was the cause. “Dad, I don’t want to study in this school anymore. Can you please transfer me to another school?”

I gave it some thought and hinted that someone was bullying me. However, when my father heard Jimmy’s name, he immediately rejected my request.

“Ben, I spent a lot of money and effort to get you into this school back then. Can you not make it difficult for me? I’m already very tired from work today. I don’t want to hear another word about this anymore.”

I was overwhelmed with guilt. He was right. Why was I being unreasonable? It was already very difficult for him to raise me.

I just had to bear with it for three years. Three years would pass very soon.

Maybe Jimmy would get sick of me too.

I kept comforting myself.

However, the bullying was endless. It took over my entire life.

Jimmy covered his mouth and sobbed. “He’s basically crazy. He keeps reading a password-locked diary every single day. He says he’s damned, but then, he claims that I killed his son and wants me to pay for it. He wants to send me to hell so that I’ll never recover!” I was stunned when I heard what Jimmy said. Initially, I thought it was a family enemy who had been torturing him. After all, the Anderson family was huge, so they could have offended some people when they were doing business. Besides, Jimmy was a troublemaker. He had done a lot of bad things, so it would be normal for an enemy to want revenge. However, when I heard that the man was exacting revenge for his son, my heart skipped a beat. My father was torturing Jimmy for what he had done to me, and he left Jimmy in a terrible state. Time would heal all. My new life was filled with hope. All the past hatred and anger had left me along with my love for my father. I thought I could face this calmly. However, when

However, I had lied. The password was not my birthday. However, that did not matter. They had to take my word for it. As expected, upon hearing my response, my father did not ask anything further. He took the diary with trembling hands. I did not read the diary or look at my father’s face. After all, I was already familiar with the content. It was details of Jimmy’s bullying. I had written them down at midnight when I could not sleep from my wounds hurting. Showing him the diary was intentional. I did not care if it was a cruel and heartless move. I wondered if he would regret it when he saw that Jimmy, whom he praised to have a bright future, was such a cold-blooded and vicious person in private. That day, I left with Captain George. He scolded me because of my actions. He kicked me out of the case and asked me to calm down. After I became Sam, I lived a good life. I wanted to compensate Sam for giving me his life. Maybe it was escapism, but I focused on studying

I reached out and pulled the torn rag further down to expose all the horrible wounds to my father. I carefully touched the scars. “Do you recognize this? It’s a scar from being burned. It recovers very slowly, and it’ll leave you in pain for a really long time as it gets infected. Whenever it’s hot and humid, it’ll get extremely itchy. You’ll wish you could bury yourself in the snow or rub it against the floor.”I looked at the scars that were healing on the back of my father’s hands, and I simply said, “But it’s not impossible to treat it. There’s a special imported medicine. After applying it for two weeks, the wounds will magically recover.”Hearing this, my father’s hands suddenly started trembling uncontrollably. He grabbed his right wrist to stop the tremor. I continued, “But this medicine is extremely expensive for a small volume. It costs two thousand dollars for a single tube. For a normal scar just like yours, you’ll need at least three tubes to recover.” Two thousa

Captain George grabbed my arm and dragged me out. When we reached the door, I struggled free from him and rushed inside. Then, I pushed my father onto the floor. “Sam, what are you doing?” Captain George quickly dragged me out, as he was afraid that I would do something overboard. However, I did not care. My eyes were filled with tears as I glared at my father’s frozen expression. “Why are you so cruel? When he was alive, you allowed him to be tortured. Now that he’s dead, you’re still protecting the killer. He’s your son! He was willing to give you everything, and he was the closest person to you! How could you be so cruel?!” I roared and let my anger loose. Captain George grabbed me and dragged me out. “Sam, what’s wrong with you? Get out!” I did not know how I gathered the strength, but I broke free from Captain George’s grip and ran over to tear the clothes off my dead body. The clothes, which were already ragged and torn from the torture, easily pulled apart. The sca

Maybe heaven had taken pity on me for having such a hard life. Even though I was dead, I had been given another chance to survive. I became a policeman who had just joined the police force. I was holding a notebook while recording the details of a murder case. I was still in shock from dying and living again when I heard the captain verifying the identity of the corpse. Then, he called my father. “Hello, are you Ben’s father? I’m sorry to inform you that Ben has sadly been murdered. Please come over to assist in our investigation…” My father sounded very calm, “Are scams nowadays this ridiculous? How dare you pretend to be a cop? I bet you don’t know who I am. Otherwise, you wouldn’t dare to come up with such silly tactics.” After that, my father immediately ended the call. The beeping sound from the phone indicated that the call was over. All the police officers who were working on the case were shocked by the reaction. They tried calling a few more times, but my fat

“Mr. Reid, what’s wrong?” Jimmy asked as he looked at my father, who was lost in thought when he stared at the private room. My father stared intently at the room. It was dark inside, so he could not see anything, but he felt strangely uneasy. His heart was beating violently. He rubbed his temple and smiled at Jimmy gently. “Maybe I didn’t get enough sleep yesterday. I thought I heard my son calling me.” Jimmy was stunned. He subconsciously glanced at the private room before he immediately looked away. “Mr. Reid, your son is of high social status, and I bet he’s an excellent young man. How would he be in such a normal private room?” After my father heard Jimmy’s words, he thought the same. “That’s right. My son’s good and obedient. He wouldn’t be here.” My heart sank when I heard that. I had too many questions in my head. Why would my father be here today? Why was he so close to Jimmy, who was utterly disgusting? Why was everyone who dressed wealthily here pleasing
