The gentle sea breeze of the capital disappeared behind them.

In its place came the howl of the northern wind.

Snow battered the carriage windows as the horses climbed through the massive iron gates marking the border of Valemont Territory. Beyond the jagged mountain pass stretched the North—a merciless land of frozen peaks, endless winter, and warriors who believed weakness deserved no mercy.

This was where Duke Lucien Valemont had forged his legend.

Not in royal ballrooms.

Not through political games.

But in blood and battle.

Inside the heated carriage, Evelina sat comfortably against the plush velvet seat, a massive tactical map spread across her knees.

Her silver hair fell over one shoulder as her amber eyes moved across the mountain routes, supply lines, and military positions marked in black ink.

Since the destruction of the Holy Temple's nexus, the System had changed.

The bright blue interface that once followed her every move was gone.

In its place floated a fractured, corrupted screen.

[SYSTEM STATUS: SEVERED / MANUAL OVERRIDE]

Host: Evelina Rosenthal

Current Objective: Total Conquest of Aethelgard

Northern Army Readiness: 65%

WARNING: IMPERIAL FORCES ARE AMASSING AT THE SOUTHERN BORDER.

Evelina studied the information without the slightest trace of fear.

“You've been quiet for two hours.”

Lucien's voice broke through the silence.

He reached across the narrow space between them and placed his large, warm hand over hers.

His ice-blue eyes studied her face carefully.

“Are you feeling the aftershocks from destroying the nexus?”

“No.”

Evelina didn't look away from the map.

“I was calculating how long it will take Cedric and his father to realize they've lost divine protection.”

A faint, merciless smile touched her lips.

“Without the High Priest manipulating public opinion, the Emperor is nothing more than an old man sitting on a mountain of stolen gold.”

Lucien's lips curved upward.

“The Emperor still commands fifty thousand Imperial Guards.”

His thumb moved slowly across the back of her hand.

“But my Northern Army has eighty thousand battle-hardened veterans.”

Evelina finally looked at him.

Lucien's expression hardened with pride.

“They care nothing for royal decrees.”

“They obey one rule.”

His eyes gleamed.

“Absolute strength.”

“Which means…”

Evelina tilted her head.

“Your generals won't bow to a noble lady from the capital simply because she wears a pretty dress.”

Lucien gave a quiet chuckle.

“They won't bow to a helpless lady.”

His voice lowered into a possessive murmur.

“But when they see the woman who brought down the Crown Prince and shattered the Holy Temple…”

His gaze lingered on her.

“They'll drop to their knees.”

Two hours later, the carriage finally entered the courtyard of the Valemont Northern Fortress.

Evelina looked out the window.

Even she had to admit—

The fortress was impressive.

A gargantuan castle had been carved directly into the black rock of the mountains. Towering walls disappeared into the surrounding cliffs, while massive watchtowers stood against the blizzard like ancient guardians.

Thousands of soldiers stood in formation across the snow-covered plaza.

Five towering commanders stood at their front.

They wore heavy beast furs over layers of iron plate armor, their faces hardened by years of war.

The carriage stopped.

Lucien stepped out first.

Then Evelina followed.

The moment her boots touched the frozen ground, the northern wind attacked.

It whipped her silver hair across her face.

She wore a heavy black fur coat over tailored riding trousers, yet she showed no discomfort.

She simply stood there.

Calm.

Composed.

Unshaken.

The soldiers watched her.

Whispers spread through the formation.

A young noblewoman from the capital?

Here?

To command them?

The eldest commander stepped forward.

He was a massive man with a scar running from his temple to his jaw.

General Kaelen.

He bowed briefly toward Lucien.

“Your Grace.”

Then his eyes shifted toward Evelina.

The respect disappeared.

“The army is assembled as ordered.”

His voice carried across the courtyard.

“But we've heard rumors from the capital.”

A few soldiers exchanged glances.

“You brought a capital socialite to lead our strategy meeting.”

Kaelen's eyes narrowed.

“The North is preparing for war against the Crown, my lord.”

He folded his arms.

“We don't have time to babysit a disgraced duke's daughter.”

A low murmur passed through the soldiers.

Lucien's expression changed.

The temperature around him seemed to drop several degrees.

His hand moved toward the hilt of his broadsword.

Kaelen had just made a serious mistake.

“Lucien.”

Evelina's voice was soft.

Yet somehow, it stopped him.

She placed one hand lightly against his forearm.

“Stop.”

Lucien looked down at her.

Evelina stepped forward.

Straight toward Kaelen.

The towering general watched her approach with growing skepticism.

She stopped directly in front of him.

She didn't flinch.

Didn't look away.

“General Kaelen.”

Her voice cut through the howling wind like a blade.

“In three days, the Imperial Army will attempt to cut off our supply lines at Frostbite Ravine.”

Kaelen's expression changed slightly.

“They'll deploy heavy cavalry from the Third Division.”

Evelina's amber eyes remained fixed on his.

“Am I correct?”

Silence.

Kaelen froze.

His eyes widened.

“How…”

For the first time, uncertainty entered his voice.

“How do you know the Imperial deployment strategy?”

Evelina smiled.

“Because I engineered their logistics three weeks ago.”

She reached inside her coat.

“I know every route.”

A scroll appeared in her hand.

“Every food storage site.”

She took another step closer.

“Every supply wagon.”

Her smile became colder.

“And every bribe paid to Imperial officers.”

Kaelen stared at her.

Evelina unfurled the scroll.

“If you follow the traditional Northern frontal assault, you'll lose ten thousand men in the narrow pass.”

She pointed toward the mountain route.

“Hidden mage artillery has already been positioned here.”

Kaelen's face went rigid.

Evelina threw the scroll toward him.

He caught it instinctively.

The moment he opened it—

His expression changed.

His eyes moved rapidly across the detailed battlefield calculations.

Troop movements.

Mountain shortcuts.

Supply routes.

Enemy formations.

Ambush coordinates.

Every detail had been mapped with frightening precision.

The five commanders immediately gathered around him.

“What…”

One of them whispered.

“This can't be…”

Kaelen continued reading.

Evelina folded her arms.

“Use my flank route.”

Her voice remained calm.

“You won't lose a single regiment.”

She pointed toward another section of the map.

“Instead, you'll trap the Imperial Third Division between the northern cliffs and the ravine.”

Her amber eyes gleamed.

“Crush them in under two hours.”

She paused.

“And capture fifty supply wagons intact.”

Silence.

The generals stared at the map.

Then at Evelina.

The skepticism was gone.

The arrogance had vanished.

In its place was something entirely different.

Awe.

Kaelen slowly raised his head.

“You're not just a noblewoman…”

His voice was almost a whisper.

“You're a demon strategist.”

Evelina smiled.

She turned toward the vast army standing in the snow.

Thousands of soldiers watched her.

Waiting.

Judging.

Evelina raised her voice.

“I am the woman who will place Duke Valemont on the throne.”

The courtyard fell completely silent.

Her words carried across the fortress.

“I didn't come to the North to sit behind a desk.”

She took a step forward.

“I came to win a war.”

Her amber eyes swept across the army.

“So tell me…”

A dangerous smile appeared on her lips.

“Are you going to stand there freezing in the snow?”

She lifted her chin.

“Or are we going to plan the siege that destroys the Empire?”

For one heartbeat—

Nothing happened.

Then Kaelen slammed his fist against his armored chest.

BOOM!

He dropped to one knee.

“HAIL LADY EVELINA!”

His roar shook the fortress walls.

“HAIL THE NORTH!”

One soldier followed.

Then another.

Then hundreds.

Then thousands.

Eighty thousand soldiers slammed their spears against their shields.

BOOM.

BOOM.

BOOM.

The thunderous rhythm echoed through the mountains, sending loose snow cascading from the peaks.

“HAIL LADY EVELINA!”

“HAIL THE NORTH!”

The roar became deafening.

And within the chaos, another title began to spread.

“The Empress of the North!”

Lucien approached Evelina from behind.

His heavy arm slipped around her waist, pulling her gently against his chest.

He looked down at her with unmistakable admiration.

“You took my entire army in less than five minutes.”

His lips brushed near her ear as he whispered,

“I should be jealous.”

Evelina leaned back against him.

Her smile was dangerous.

“Your army is my army now, Lucien.”

She turned her head slightly, meeting his ice-blue eyes.

“And tomorrow…”

Her gaze shifted toward the distant southern horizon.

“Aethelgard burns.”

Lucien's smile deepened.

Evelina looked toward the army that now stood behind her.

The North was ready.

The Empire was unaware.

And the throne was waiting.

“Tomorrow,” Evelina whispered,

“we march on Aethelgard.”

She was sitting in front of a grand vanity mirror dressed in a crimson silk gown."Lady Evelina? Are you listening to me?"Evelina turned her head slowly. Standing beside her was a maid holding a bottle of perfume, looking at her with hidden disdain.A flood of memories rushed into Evelina’s mind. She looked at her reflection: sharp amber eyes, silver hair, and a face built for arrogance. She had not just died—she had been reborn as Evelina Rosenthal, the tragic villainess of a popular novel she had read in her past life.According to the original plot, Evelina was framed for poison, abandoned by her family, dumped by her fiance Prince Cedric, and executed by Duke Lucien Valemont.A foolish end for someone with this much wealth and beauty, Evelina thought, a sharp, dangerous smil

Late that night, the Rosenthal estate had fallen into complete silence. The servants had already retired to their quarters, and the halls that were usually filled with footsteps and whispers were now illuminated only by the faint glow of moonlight. Inside her private study, Evelina sat behind a massive oak desk covered with maps, financial records, military reports, and documents concerning the noble families of the empire. Unlike the other ladies of her age, Evelina had no interest in jewelry, dances, or romantic gossip. Her attention was fixed entirely on survival. She leaned back in her chair and stared at the pile of documents before her. Everything she had accomplished during the past few days should have been enough to change her fate. She had broken her engagement with the Crown Prince, exposed corrupt treasurers, recovered millions of gold coins, and secured control over the Rosenthal family's finances. Yet something still bothered her.The System. It had been strangely quiet

  • I Was Reborn as the Villainess, With a System   Chapter 5: Turning the Trap

Two hours before dawn, the forest surrounding the eastern wing of the Rosenthal Estate was swallowed by darkness. The moon hung low behind a layer of clouds, casting only faint traces of silver light between the towering trees. The wind whispered through the branches, carrying the scent of damp earth and pine.Thirty royal knights moved silently through the forest.Or at least, they tried to.Their armor had been wrapped in cloth to muffle the sound of metal, while their horses were led carefully between the trees. Each man knew the importance of the mission. They were not there to fight. They were there to plant evidence.Several heavily guarded iron chests were being carried toward the Rosenthal vaults. Inside them were forbidden dark-magic artifacts—corrupted crystals, cursed remains, and objects that could easily be used as proof of treason.Once the evidence was discovered, the Rosenthal family would have nowhere to run.The captain raised one hand, bringing the group to a halt.

Their armor was still stained with dirt from the forest, and several of them looked as though they had barely slept.Beside them were the opened iron chests. The contents were impossible to deny.Forbidden dark-magic artifacts. The sight alone was enough to make several nobles exchange uneasy glances.Prince Cedric stood in the center of the court, his face pale and his hands trembling slightly at his sides.
