Chapter 2

Author: Bright Lights
Elena's explanation did nothing to calm my anger, and I packed even faster.

Before I left, I took one last look at the house we had lived in for three years.

To be honest, it held a lot of beautiful memories, but they belonged to the past now.

Just like Elena.

I blocked Elena's number and moved into a house I had bought before we got married.

It was time to leave the past behind and start a new life.

-

I hadn't expected to see Elena at the hospital during my checkup.

She was carrying a lunchbox into a hospital room.

I followed her without thinking.

Inside, Ivan was sitting on the hospital bed, picking at the food, and Elena was patiently persuading him to eat.

"Ugh! I told you I don't eat carrots!"

Elena wasn't annoyed by how picky he was.

Instead, she looked at him dotingly.

"The doctor said you need a balanced diet. Don't you want to get better sooner?"

Then, she affectionately ruffled Ivan's hair.

"Fine, Ms. Coleman. I'm only eating them because you asked me to!"

Ivan pouted cutely, and his adorable expression made Elena burst out laughing.

"Well, thank you for doing me this favor, Mr. Blake."

They teased and bickered like the leads in a romantic drama.

If I weren't Elena's husband, I would've admitted they made a perfect match.

Elena used to treat me the same way.

Whenever I was sick, she would patiently coax me into taking my medicine.

She never got angry even when I made a fuss. Instead, she would tease me with a smile.

"My husband is so cute even when he's in a bad mood."

But now, that gentle Elena no longer belonged to me alone.

Was it even love if it wasn't pure anymore?

I rubbed my hurting abdomen and left.

Seeing them together only made me more determined to leave Elena.

-

I had just finished my check-up when I unexpectedly ran into Elena.

For a brief moment, she looked guilty when she saw me.

"What are you doing here, Julian?" She sounded concerned, but she wouldn't look me in the eye.

I smirked and asked, "What about you? What are you doing here?"

Elena stepped forward and took my hand, and I learned another one of her secrets instantly.

She had been taking care of Ivan at the hospital ever since our anniversary. She hadn't gone home even once.

No wonder she seemed completely unaware that I had moved out.

"I'm sorry, Julian. Ivan's sick, and he's my employee. I have to take care of him," she said.

What a perfectly reasonable excuse.

If I got jealous, I would be the one who looked unreasonable.

I stared into Elena's eyes and asked, "Why don't I see you taking care of your other employees when they get sick? What makes him so special?"

My question exposed what was going on between her and Ivan.

Elena was at a loss for words, and she quickly changed the subject.

"Julian, are you angry because I haven't been home these past few days? I'll make it up to you once Ivan gets better."

I pulled my hand away and scoffed.

Make it up to me?

She was just trying to buy herself some peace of mind with a few little favors so she could keep cheating on me with Ivan without feeling guilty.

How disgusting.

"It's fine. I don't need anything from you. Just sign this."

I pulled the divorce papers I had prepared out of my bag.

I had planned to meet up with Elena after my checkup and discuss the divorce with her, which was why I had been carrying the papers around with me.

I hadn't expected to run into her at the hospital, but that saved me another trip.

"What is this?"

Elena had just reached for the papers when Ivan called out to her from the hospital room.

That was all it took to draw her attention away from me.

She couldn't even be bothered to read the document carefully. She simply flipped to the last page and signed her name.

As she signed, she kept glancing back toward the hospital room.

She didn't forget to reassure me, either.

"Ivan's feeling unwell. I'm going to check on him. Go home and wait for me, okay?"

The way she acted almost made me laugh.

She sure was busy…

After signing the papers, Elena rushed off to Ivan without looking back.

I looked at the divorce papers she had handed back and felt like laughing.

Elena hadn't asked about my health even once.

In the past, she would've asked why I was at the hospital and worried that my old injury had flared up again.

But now, her attention had shifted to someone else.

But every time, I would either mock her or make fun of her. When she realized she couldn't get me to help her, she finally stopped reaching out to me.The next time I heard about Elena and Ivan, they were in the news."A woman and her boyfriend got into a violent fight at home and accidentally fell from their balcony. Fortunately, neither of them suffered life-threatening injuries."Although their faces had been blurred, I recognized them at a glance. It was Elena and Ivan.Only then did I find out that, after failing to attract investors, Elena had turned to online loans and lost all the money she had borrowed. She had already borrowed money from everyone she could think of. With nowhere else to turn, she finally turned to me, but I had refused to lend her any.Her attempt to start a business failed, leaving her buried in debt.In the beginning, Ivan would encourage Elena, and they were pretty sweet together. However, after Elena's business failed and her pride took a hit,

I shrugged indifferently."Whatever. I've got money." I walked away after saying that, and Elena didn't chase after me this time. Maybe I had finally shattered what little pride she had left. After that, Elena started another business, perhaps to prove herself. How did I find out?Because Ivan posted a hundred times a day on Instagram, showing off his lovey-dovey life with Elena.I just treated it as free entertainment. They were basically my personal reality show.Even before boarding my flight, I scrolled through Ivan's Instagram posts, enjoying every bit of it."Aww, Ms. Coleman works so hard, so I made her a healthy meal to help her recharge!"He had posted a photo of Elena working on her computer at her desk, along with a selfie of himself flashing a peace sign."A genius is a genius no matter where they go. Some people will regret throwing away a gem like her sooner or later."I wondered if he was talking about me. I couldn't help laughing when I saw that post.I

Elena pleaded with me as if she truly cared about her company."Are you sure you've worked hard? When you left your company behind to take care of Ivan at the hospital and ignored your business affairs, where was all that hard work then?"Elena had barely shown up at the company while she was taking care of Ivan, yet now, she had the nerve to tell me how much the company meant to her."No, that's not true! I didn't!" Elena immediately denied it, but actions spoke louder than words."You know whether you did or not, and your behavior has upset the company's management. So, as the person in charge of the company, I'm firing you."I deliberately announced Elena's dismissal in court, crushing her pride.Hearing this, Elena clutched her head in anguish and screamed at me."Julian, do you really have to ruin me?"Ruin her? This was only the beginning. She should've known this day would come the moment she cheated on me.All the evidence supported my claims, and Elena lost the case.

I caught Ivan glaring at me jealously several times.I was glad to see how miserable the two of them looked. When it was my turn to speak, I presented the surveillance footage from the hospital hallway that day.The footage clearly showed that I hadn't deceived Elena. She was so eager to get back to Ivan that she had signed the papers without reading them. "Your Honor, does that count as deliberate deception? Wasn't she the one who didn't bother reading the papers?"As I spoke, I stared straight at Elena. Her face turned red with anger."Then why didn't you tell me it was a divorce agreement? You tricked me on purpose!""The words 'divorce agreement' were right there on the cover. Couldn't you read them? How is it my fault if you didn't bother to open your eyes?"I didn't back down in the face of her accusations."You—You..." Elena couldn't come up with anything to say in her defense.Seeing Elena at a disadvantage, Ivan, who had accompanied her to court, couldn't hold

I scoffed. "I'm not joking. You agreed to the divorce too. Remember the document I asked you to sign at the hospital? You signed it without hesitation."Elena went pale and said in a trembling voice, "I didn't know it was a divorce agreement! That doesn't count!"I was getting impatient. For the first time, I realized how relentless Elena could be."I gave you a chance to read it, and I didn't hide anything from you. You were too busy thinking about Ivan, so you signed it without even looking."My words seemed to jog Elena's memory. She tried to argue but couldn't get a word out.I pressed on. "Besides, the agreement clearly states that you'll walk away with nothing, so pack your bags and get the hell out of my house!"Elena shouted in disbelief, "You're divorcing me just because I haven't been home for a few days? And you want me to walk away with nothing? You must be joking, right?"I almost laughed. No wonder she had been so confident about trying to make up with me. I

I spent some time recovering in the hospital.During that period, Elena didn't contact me at all.I guessed she still hadn't gone home. Otherwise, she would've made a fuss about me moving out.Still, it was nice not having her bother me.Once I had recovered, I booked a flight to Solara Island for a short getaway.I was enjoying the view and checking out the beautiful women on the beach when Elena called. What a mood killer. She sounded anxious and a little impatient, though she didn't seem to realize it."Julian, where's all your luggage? Are you angry because I haven't come home these past few days?"Well, look who finally noticed I had moved out."I wanted to come home after dinner that day, but Ivan still needed me, so I…"She didn't finish, but I understood what she meant.Of course, she had decided to stay and take care of Ivan. What a pathetic excuse.I almost laughed."And what's with that lawyer? Did you pay someone to play a prank on me? This isn't funny at al
