"Do not dare pretend you didn't pray hard to be our mate so you can live in wealth and luxury, human!" one of the mighty angel Kings snaps in disgust. "I measure the quality of a man by his hardwork. Have you worked hard for this wealth, your majesty?" I boldly ask. * * * * * * * The great Kingdom of Lordsland is ruled by the race of angels, while humans and werewolves are their subjects. The angels are considered the strongest and most flawless of beings, so you can imagine Rana's shock when she finds out she is the mate of to the majestic triplet angel kings themselves. The angel kings had hoped that they would have a useful mate, like the graceful princess of the neighboring kingdom, especially now that the kingdom is facing the greatest crisis. Attacks by Rogue dragons are becoming more and more frequent, their kingdom could use the help of another army. They are utterly disgusted when a human of no royal blood, Rana, turns out to be their mate. They demand that a special ritual be performed to transfer the mate bond to the woman they truly desire. What they doesn't know is that despite Rana being a human, she hails from a special bloodline. She isn't just the bravest and kindest woman across all kingdoms, she also possess rare blood, the only thing that can control rogue dragons and wipe away every magical spell cast against their reign. Everyone is surprised by Rana's careless reaction to their rejection. Any woman would have knelt and begged to be their cherished queen. But Rana believes that only a kind man with genuine love for her is worth her tears. She also knows that the Angel Kings are making a huge mistake by choosing the pretentious Princess over her.

"If I were as perfect as a daydream,
Would you love me alone?
Because I know men's hearts,
They're always on a hunt for something new.
So if I were a flawless queen,
If I had a voice like summer rain,
Would I be enough for you all days?
If I had all the good virtues,
Would your loyalty last for eternity?"
I practice the song in a low tone as the carriage with a dozen more singers nears the great palace of our kingdom, Lordland. The sight of the imposing castle steals my breath. It is the home of the angel kings, the most flawless of beings.
Lordsland is the only kingdom that is ruled by the race of angels, born after a weyr of rogue dragons attacked the kingdom and killed nearly all humans that did not have the protection of werewolves. The triplets angel kings, Tiras, Ronen and Aitan, are the mightiest of all beings. People also say they are the most stunning creatures to ever walk the earth. But I think their castle is most stunning. Because what could be more beautiful than this?
The towering buildings that are visible above the walls are made of gleaming stones. The main palace, which has the shape of a huge flame, sets at the centre, with the rest of the structures built in lines that project towards the walls of the palace like rays. Intricately curved statues of the angel kings with their wings spread out stands on either side of the massive gates.
"Kings would kneel before you if they knew of the special gift you possess," my father's last words dance in my mind as the carriage rolls towards the gates.
The angel kings will be hosting a grand banquet to commemorate their decade long success in saving the kingdom from the weyr of rogue dragons that had nearly wiped out the race of humansin the kingdom. It is rumoured that Royals from far kingdoms will be in attendance, including the famous Princess of Wolfsburg.
The angel kings may be the wealthiest and most powerful kings, but not even their kingdom can withstand attacks by rogue dragons for eternity. They need the help of foreign armies as the kingdom has lost too many soldiers, yet the attacks by the wild dragons are becoming more frequent.
They seek to form an alliance with the king of Wolfsburg, Ademon, whose beautiful daughter, Princess Andria, is known for her skill in taming dragons. Such an alliance can only be achieved through a marriage, between the angel kings and Princess Andria.
She is the reason they want an extravagant banquet that perfectly reflects their immense wealth and great influence. They seek to impress her as the future of this kingdom depends on it.
They want the best singers in the kingdom to perform during their grand celebration. I was lucky to get selected as one of the few singers that will have the chance to perform in front of them tomorrow so they can personally pick the best to entertain their valued guests. It will definitely be a tough contest. But I trust in the songs that I have composed and practised.
My father and I fled into this kingdom years ago after the death of my mother. We lived here for a long time before my father went missing. He used to say that our bloodline was being hunted down, because we possessed a gift that every king would die for. The ability to control all dragons.
He was probably insane, but he is the man that taught me how to take pride in the simple fact that I possess a kind heart. Because that's the only priceless thing that is rarer than gold.
Beauty and grace, those are the qualities of a fairly princess. I do not desire to be one, because beauty is shallow, and flawless grace is merely an act. My father taught me to be confidently myself, because there are things that are more important than dazzling beauty and pretentious grace. I may be a commoner, but I am a queen at heart.
I am overwhelmed by worry at the end of each day that passes without finding him. He is the only family I have left since the death of my mother. The more time passes without seeing his face again the more I fear that I may have lost all the family I had.
A close friend of my father who knew him before his disappearance told me of this rare opportunity to perform during the grand banquet of the angel kings. She knew how desperate I am to keep searching for my father. Hopefully the angel kings will find my voice worthy of entertaining their guests during their feast even though I am a human.
"I cannot wait to stand in front of the angel kings. I will probably lose my voice under their gaze," the girl seated by my side says in an anxious voice. She wears a pretty red dress and has styled her hair with colourful pins. She looks ready to impress them without even singing. "What do you think they look like?" she asks.
"It is against the laws of this kingdom to look upon the faces of the angel kings, unless you wish to be hanged," the boy by her side reminds.
It will be a tough performance indeed. Looking at the faces of my audience helps me know the kind of song they would love. Doing so tomorrow may cost me my head.
The angel kings must think they are an irresistible sight. I am certain I won't be tempted to stare at their faces because I only see beauty on good men. Their sense of pride is already killing my excitement towards meeting them.
Guards open the gates after our coachman explains that we are the singers that the angel kings requested. The carriage rolls into the palace grounds and we are even more dumbfounded by the sheer opulence of the place.
Lush, wet gardens grow in the massive spaces between the lines of buildings that surround the main palace, whose windows are framed by intricately curved bars of pure gold.
"I would give my life to live in this place for a year," the girl in red dress says, her eyes fixed on the main palace building while everyone else steps off the carriage.
"You would have to be Princess Andria for that to happen," the same boy that was by her side replies. "Your friend however has eyes that might tempt the kings," he adds.
He isn't referring to me of course. I am human and no one likes humans. Not to mention I am not nearly as nicely dressed as everyone else. So I turn away to study the palace. A female servant in white uniform is headed towards us.
"Good evening. I am the person in charge of guest accommodations in this great palace," she introduces in a proud voice.
So she is an official of the palace, but still a servant regardless.
"Since none of you commoners hails from a noble family you shall rest in the servant quarters tonight. You will performing for the angel kings early tomorrow so they can see which one of you is worthy of standing in front of their valued guests. If you no longer feel like you would kill for this opportunity you have to sing in front of our mighty kings I suggest you leave now," she states in a stern tone.
I wish I didn't need the money so desperately, because I would love to make a show of turning around.
Third Person's PovInside a spacious, well lit cave adorned with intricate symbols and gleaming stones, a throne for two sets at the far head, but only a single woman sits on it, Lysandra, the devious witch. She gazes at Sir Levitt who sits on an old chair at a corner, grasping a wound on his right wrist. One side of the cave is lined with shelves with rare herbs, bubbling cauldrons and jars of mysterious ingredients. The opposite wall is lined with books upon books, containing spells, incantations, and ancient knowledge. The central gathering space has a large, circular table surrounded by plush cushions. This is where Lysandra and her coven come together for rituals, discussions, and celebrations. The table is laden with bows of blood and roasted meats, which are their daily offerings to spirits."Your blood has lost it's charm," Lysandra says to Sir Levitt in a tone of disappointment. "Perhaps it's time to cut off your head and drain the rest of it." "How will it help you then? M
Ira's PovI keep my eyes closed and try to think of Lior, in a nice place far away from this kingdom. If we had escaped we would be in that place together, waiting for the right time to resume the search for my father. I have never desired the love of a man, because I never thought there was one as good as my father until Lior stood up for me when no other man ever has. I understand why Linda would go to any lengths to make sure that he marries her and no one else. He has a kind heart, which is a rare thing. I wonder why I wasn't mated to him instead. If my ex-mates won't kill me immediately after we get to their palace, I need a plan to escape. They cannot use my blood to tame dragons without having a witch cast a spell that would grant them the power in my blood. I imagine they will want to keep me alive until the witch arrives. Since Princess Andria's family already used my mother's blood to tame her dragon, there is no doubt that they have already summoned her father's witch to c
Ira's PovI would not want them to hang Lior because I refused to go back with them. He saved my life once. Even offered to be executed in my place. I understand that he was certain that his refined masters would want to keep their loyal assistant so they would spare him. But now they would love to kill him. And I am sure they will do it anyway, regardless of what I choose. I cannot understand how they can just call him a traitor. Because he knew better than to let them know that it was I who commanded the dragons? He knew what they would have done to me. He is the kindest of men, not a traitor."Neither I nor Lior has committed a crime against you or this kingdom. Not one that isn't a false accusation anyway. If you kill Lior your soldiers will always question why you hanged their favourite commander when they all knew that he was loyal to you and a good man," I say."You will definitely make the wisest of queens without putting any effort," King Adon proudly commends like none of w
IRA'S POV I do not get time to pick up my bag as Lior pulls me towards the door. "We shouldn't have rested before getting to the border," he mutters in an anxious voice as we rush out of the house. He assured me that no one would find us here or know the path we took. So why are we running like thieves this early? I am afraid that we will starve on the way since he left our bag of food and I will never find my father. We burst through the wooden door and I immediately corride with a hard chest dressed in silk. I lose my footing and start to fall backwards. Someone catches me and pulls me back to my feet. I look up and my entire body freezes. Angel Adon?!I am beyond appalled. Yet it's hard to miss how elegantly his hair is styled or the conspicuous shirt that he wears. It is missing a shoulder. "Hello dear. . . . we have been looking -" I jump back and away from his grasp. That's when I notice that we are surrounded by their soldiers. And his brother, Ronen, is right beside him
Angel Ronen's Pov"Your majesties, my name is Linda Rothnia, a skilled doctor. I have come to help in the search of your former human mate and your gorgeous assistant, Lior," the young woman says.Lior's last name is Rothnia and it's not a common name. So why would a woman with his last name be offering us help in finding him? "Are you Lior's sister or wife?" I ask even though I know well that our assistant is not married."I have great hope that Lior will marry me some day. So I have taken his last name in advance," she answers.I should be surprised by her answer. But her's isn't the most insane thing I have heard today. I wonder if our mate will love us just as much some day."So how do you intend to help us?" I ask."I know everything about Lior. I know all he likes and all his close and distant friends. I know where he is going and where he will stop on the way," she answers. She really should be his wife. She already knows more than a mate could. "Why are you here if you love
Angel Tiras's Pov"How did your witch manage to get Ira's father inside of our kingdom?" I question.A day ago I wouldn't have cared. But now I have realized that our lack of concern has cost us everything. "My father's spies . . . are everywhere," our wicked queen answers. "We should cut her head off and send it to her father," Adon suggests.I want her dead too. Because that's the only way I can feel satisfied that we have hurt her enough. Her family and whoever that witch is has been hunting down our mate's gifted family for decades. They have killed both of her parents and drained their blood just so they can control dragons for a limited amount of time. We have done things in pursuit of power but not even us can relate to such greed and evil. I doubt that King Ademon has spies everywhere. Only loyal servants can be spies. And Ademon prefers slaves. He only has enough men to chase after our mates family wherever they run. "I agree. But her beheading should be an opportunity t
King Ronen's PovI should be laughing at the sounds of her screams as the soldiers whip her. Her makeup washed away after one of our angry servants hurled hot water at her face. Now she looks like a wailing troll with a bloody face and broken teeth. The silver chain attached tightly to her neck prevents her from shifting. She has lost all of her grace and everyone is laughing. But I am too afraid of what she will reveal that I am unable to take pleasure in watching her pay for her lies and wickedness. "I . . . will confess! Please make them stop!" she pleads as the soldiers kick and slap her repeatedly. I wonder what her father would say if he were here now. He demanded a massive tribute knowing that his daughter cannot control rogue dragons. I would hang her in his face."We are not done watching. And I do not think you're ready to confess the actual truth," Tiras states in a frigid tone. We allowed servants and guests into the room to watch her punishment since she values grace
Angel Adon's PovWe did not just pay a fortune for an ugly girl, but a pretentious, shameless liar as well. What was she thinking? That the rogue dragons would never attack again? It's embarassing to know that we fell for every one of her tricks, including rejecting and humiliating our human mate in a hall full of guests. She was a useless human, but I would not have done it if I wasn't convinced that our Queen could control dragons. If I were to choose between the two now I would prefer a feisty, wise human than a pretentious, ugly princess. Andria's lies made us feel on top of the world, but we are now worse than ever before. I should have known from the moment I noticed her unexpected desire to marry us. Then after the marriage she made every effort to be admired for other things apart from her gift of controlling dragons. Which she knew she didn't have. "If she does not have the power to control dragons, why did they leave at her command last time," Ronen asks. "She said that i
King Tiras's PovThe dragons breath out fire, lighting up some structures of the palace. Helpless servants run for their lives, some screaming for our help. Our queen continues sobbing like a child. It doesn't make sense. She was so proud of her ability to control the dragons last time the dragons attacked. So how comes she is acting this way now? Unless she did actually lie. She seemed to panic when we told her about our plan to turn dragons into our formidable army last night. She tried to discourage us because she knew she cannot control them. So who controlled them that day?Adon blinds two of the dragons with his illusions and they crash against the palace's tallest towers. The people that were inside fall with the rubble and get crashed by the weight of the dragons. We have to fight them with our powers just like before. Luckily they are not that many today. But their behaviour appears strange. It's the first time they are attacking our palace and not any other place. They se
