Ira's Pov
We have nothing alike. And apart from their beauty there is nothing else they possess I would like. They have infinite wealth, acquired from the taxes and tributes of their countless subjects and close allies. But I value a person's character more than gold and silver.
"We had hoped for a beautiful, royal and useful mate. You're a wretch compared to the princess we desired," the angel in leather coat fumes.
Why can't they just reject me? They are monsters compared to the kind of man I would want.
"I had hoped for a kind, sweet and wise mate. I share your disappointment, your majesty. So let's not waste more time on useless ravings when we could have gotten rid of the unwanted bond. I will gladly welcome your rejection," I reply.
Everyone in the room gapes in shock while my beautiful mates seem extremely infuriated. They must have thought I would beg them to accept me. Or is it that no one has ever made them feel like they are not perfect in every way?
"Do not dare pretend you didn't pray hard to be our mate so you can live in wealth and luxury, human!" the king I met last night snaps.
I only prayed to impress them with my voice so I would win the chance to perform during their banquet. I have never prayed for a mate, least of all three that despise me.
"I measure the quality of a man by his hardwork. Have you worked hard for this wealth, your majesty?" I boldly ask and hear both their servants and the guards behind gasp in shock.
Was I not supposed to answer? I would like them to feel assured that I would not have used a spell to create a mate bond with them. I have standards that they do not meet. My words seem to enrage them though.
"What a mad, thoughtless woman? Throughout my life I was yet to meet someone so resoundingly foolish!" the angel in a fur coat scoffs.
"She sounds a bit too wise to me," their assistant says in an amused voice. "Such intellect and bravery are rare virtues among the wom-"
"Shut up Lior! This ugly wretch could have used a dark spell to create the mate bond. She is only bitter that we didn't fall for it," the angel in silk claims.
He still believes that? If there was a way to forge mate bonds they would have a thousand mates.
"Your majesty, I understand why you wish that the mate bond was forged. It is a stain to your precious reputations. But I find it incredibly selfish that you think yourselves worthy of a love spell," the words leave my mouth before I can mull over the consequences.
For a long moment, everyone is speechless. I wish I can take that last statement back, because the faces of my mates have a thousand expressions of anger.
The one in the middle rises and angrily strides towards me. Is it too late to apologise? I cannot fight him. Not even werewolves stands a chance against angels.
I stand on my feet as I do not want to be completely vulnerable. "I wish to take back-"
"You had the chance to pick your words more wisely," he states before raising his hand and landing a blow on the left side of my face.
I feel parts of my head shake from the impact. Overwhelming pain follows, making my vision blur. My consciousness fades and I fall back to the floor.

Angel Adon's Pov
"When did the women of our great kingdom get the nerve to be so confidently annoying?" Ronen asks with a frown as we gather around our unconscious mate.
She humiliated us in ways no one has ever done before. Who would think a human was the one that would have the boldness to make us feel unworthy of her admiration? I may have lost control of my temper, but deep down I am utterly awed by her wisdom and bravery. Why did she have to be a commoner? Why couldn't she be Princess Andria?
The Princess will be arriving in our palace two days from now. She is said to have skills to tame dragons, the very thing we need to win the battles against the increased weyrs of rogue dragons that are attacking our kingdom. I doubt the princess will be nearly as smart or courageous as this unwanted human. But it is not wits or courage that we lack. We need a queen born of royalty, beautiful as a fairy, graceful as a goddess and useful as an army. Only that can match our might and maintain our good reputation.
"A respectful woman should have had her voice. It's a shame it was wasted on such a foul mouth," Ronen says.
"You pretend to hate her wits. At least she isn't an idiot like most women that want us. She is still a disgrace though," I reply.
"Of what use are her wits when it is great alliances that we need?" Tiras scoffs.
"How are you going to reject her now that you knocked her out?" our assistant asks.
He is the only other person that noticed the human's intellect despite her lack of grace or respect for us. I bet he would have accepted her if she were his mate.
"We may hate the mate bond but we are not going to waste it. If what I have heard is true, it can be transferred to the woman we have always wanted. The human must agree to it though for the ritual to work," Tiras explains.
"You want to transfer it to princess Andria?" our assistant asks.
"If she agrees, of course," I answer. "The human will stay locked up in one of the unoccupied servant rooms. No one should know about this until we have transferred the bond to Princess Andria," I add.
Ira's PovI do not feel so confident that they can easily kill the devious witch anymore, especially inside her territory. She is their aunt, they might even get along."Lysandra wants your blood first more than anything. In fact she stands no chance at taking our kingdom without it," the angel reminds. "We should help each other. She may be our aunt but still a witch who has been killing your family and destroying our kingdom.""Right. But you cannot enter her territory with your powers either. How willl you protect me?" I question.Thomas loudly clears his throat as if to seek our attention."I will help you out if you let me live, your majesties," he says."Like you were going to help me and Lior?" I scoff. He shakes his head as if to deny that he is an untrustworthy, wicked traitor."If I had met you before Lysandra sent me I would have preferred being your protector instead. You're an incredibly brave human," he says."Shut up! You're only alive because we do not want the smell o
Ira's PovLinda bursts back into the room with bottles of herbs and nearly drops them at the sight of the chaos unfolding."What's going on?" she ask in a worried voice. Only Lior and I look back at her as the angel Kings gather around a trembling Thumas."It turns out that our friend is a spy of the witch. I made a huge mistake," Lior answers in a ruefully. I do not blame him. He wanted to save my father unlike everyone else in this room. "I am so sorry dear. You could not have known," Linda comforts. My attention shifts back to Thumas after hearing his loud scream. King Ronen has his sword thrust deep into the traitor's thigh. Thumas wails in pain while clasping his injured leg."Be quiet!" angel Tiras snaps. "We must make sure you won't lie to us too. If you do the next stab will go straight into your heart. Or would you prefer being set on fire?"Thumas shakes his head vigorously. "I won't . . . lie again. I swear on my brother's grave!" he stutters. "Don't you dare mention him
Ira's PovEven Thumas's spare house looks more exquisitely furnished than those of most commoners. He really is a rich treasure hunter. Things look dusty though, which is understandable since I imagine that he neglects the house for months when on a quest for a new treasure."Apologies for the untidy environment. This used to be my brother's home which I improved with more elegant furniture after his death. I have never slept a night here so I wouldn't be surprised to find angry ghosts lurking in dark corners," he says. Why would he even think of such? The devious witch has made this kingdom a nightmare but I do not think that ghosts can be found in random abandoned homes."I will make some drinks as well as see if there is anything available to eat," Thumas says, making his way out of the small living room. Lior looks up at me with a concerned expression, but avoids uttering words in presence of the angel Kings."Ira should take the herbs now, your majesties. Her wounds will get inf
Ira's Pov"It feels like I have been weak for eternity, been betrayed a million times, and lost all those I loved. My heart is weary, consumed by infinite sorrow. When will it end?"I whisper the song while sitting in a dark, empty room, but a soothing voice wakes me from my slamber."Dear, it's over now. You have us," King Adon's voice wakes me.I fell asleep and leaned on his shoulder? I must have been really tired. It's not even a comfortable position and we no longer have that disgusting bond."You talk in your sleep," the angel says as I sit upright.I actually sang out loud? That's embarassing. But it's not like I am some royal pricess. Ordinary people have flaws. "I'm sorry if I bothered you. I won't fall asleep on you again," I say, gazing away from all of their beautiful faces. Mine must be looking horrible now, and I am sure my loose ponytail looks even worse. "It was actually cute when you spoke in your sleep. It's the first time you have been honest about how you feel
Ira's PovAll my friends have sided with the angel kings. Of course we need them to kill the witch. What I fear is what they have planned to do with us later. One would have to be greatly stupid to think that they will simply let us go."I will confess to my mistakes, but let me come with you to witchelms and be part of savings Ira's father," Lior requests from them."We want you no where close to our palace, not even as a prisoner. You are free to help with this quest though," King Ronen replies. So he is banished. That's a lesser punishment than execution. I would be grateful. The door bursts open again and Linda's face peeps in with an anxious expression. It was her who lead the angel kings to us again? I told Lior that leaving her behind was a bad idea but he really didn't want her with us for some reason. He doesn't understand that she is like a hungry predator after it's prey. How did she even know where to find us."We . . . !" she trails off after noticing Lior. "My love! You'
Ira's Pov"Why would you assume that our goal is murdering you when killing the witch and saving your father would rid us of dragon attacks permanently?" King Tiras questions. "Murdering you would only ensure that only the witch has the power to control dragons for a longer time."I hate to accept that his argument makes sense, but I hate them. If killing the witch is their priority, what are they doing here? They lost the way?"Then you can go kill the witch and leave us alone," I say."The witches spies will find you even before we get to her. This isn't all about controlling dragons or our kingdom. I care about your safety. You do not have to return to the palace, Ymyou can come with us." King Ronen says. "We won't kill your friend either, as long as he doesn't attack anyone," King Adon adds, gesturing at Lior's aggressive wolf."That's like saying you have a reason to kill him," I scoff. "I am not going anywhere with you."Thumas rushes forward quickly and halts between me and th
