Chapter 4

Author: Echo
When the light faded, I collapsed onto the grass. My throat was on fire, and my vision was swimming.

I saw the hem of a pristine white chiton pooling on the ground in front of me.

"Apollo..." I rasped.

He didn't answer.

I forced my head up. He was standing there, his back to me, his golden hair blazing in the sun. But the air around him was terrifyingly heavy.

Damon was sprawled on the ground, pale as a ghost. "Who are you?" he stammered.

Apollo didn't speak. He just raised a single finger and

Suddenly, the lyre pendant on my chest grew searing hot.A warm, unfamiliar power surged from my chest, spreading through my veins all the way to my fingertips. It wasn't Apollo's power. It was mine. A pulse of golden-green light burst from the ground beneath my feet, rippling outward. The scorched earth turned green again. Dead trees sprouted fresh leaves, and the wounds of the dying soldiers around us began to knit together. Perses's eyes widened in horror. "Impossible—you've awakened?!"I raised my hand. A bright green flame, pure earth magic, formed at my fingertips. Apollo chuckled weakly beside me, his voice full of pride. "My Juliette... has always been amazing."He wiped the golden blood from his mouth and grabbed my hand. The radiant light of the sun and the vital power of the earth twisted together at our intertwined fingers. A massive pillar of gold and green shot straight into the heavens. Perses's face finally dropped. "Move!"It was too late.I raised my other hand, a

Apollo’s silence felt like a dull knife dragging across my chest. Finally, he spoke."It's true." In that moment, I heard my own heart shatter."I knew the first time you grabbed my leg and cried," he said slowly. "You have a very faint, pure trace of Titan divinity in you. I'm the only one on Olympus who could sense it." Perses threw his head back and laughed."Did you hear that, Princess?! He locked you up on this mountain not out of pity, not out of love—but because you are a rare spoil of war! A bargaining chip he needed in his hand!""Shut up," Apollo growled. He took a step toward me, his voice softening in a way it rarely did."Juliette, listen to me. I didn't keep you here because—" Suddenly, Perses shoved me. I was thrown violently toward Apollo.Apollo's expression changed, and he instinctively reached out to catch me.That was the moment. I saw a vicious smirk flash across Perses's red eyes. He raised his massive black broadsword and brought it down hard toward both of u

The war raged for three days and three nights. The plains below Olympus were drenched in blood. Mortal cities fell and were reclaimed, one after another. I refused to hide in the side chamber.I begged the attendants to let me stay behind the front lines. A lot of minor gods were brought there wounded, so I rolled up my sleeves and worked day and night to help patch them up.Someone asked me, "Aren't you Lord Apollo’s guest? Why are you doing this?"I just smiled and didn't answer. I just wanted to help. On the morning of the fourth day, I decided to sneak up and try to catch a glimpse of Apollo. But before I could, a freezing cold hand clamped down on my shoulder.I went entirely stiff. "The blood of a Titan," a low, raspy voice whispered in my ear. "So you were hiding here."I whipped around. It was Perses. His rusted armor was covered in the golden ichor of gods, but he didn't look tired at all. His red eyes stared at me like I was a priceless treasure. "Let go of me!" I struggl

That morning, for the first time ever, Apollo wasn't reading scrolls.I ran into the hall with a plate of stolen grapes, only to see him standing by his throne, rolling a wisp of golden mist between his fingers."What are you doing?" I asked, leaning in.He closed his hand, and the mist vanished."Nothing," he glanced at me. "Tonight, dress nicely.""Huh? Why?""You'll see."He turned and left. I stared at his retreating back, feeling a flutter in my chest. That evening, an attendant came to help me get ready. She dressed me in a flowing white gown, pinned golden leaves to my shoulders, styled my hair, and placed a gorgeous floral crown on my head.I barely recognized the girl in the mirror."What... what's the occasion?" I whispered. The attendant smiled. "Lord Apollo didn't tell you? Tonight is a banquet in honor of your birthday." I froze. My birthday.I had never celebrated my birthday. My adoptive parents said I had an item with my birthdate on it when they found me, but they n

Apollo tossed me into a side chamber. It was a room a hundred times more luxurious than anywhere I had ever lived on earth. The bed was made of clouds, the curtains were woven from moonlight, and even the walls gave off a soft glow.He stood in the doorway, looking down at me."Stay here.""Understood.""Don't run around.""Understood.""Don't annoy me.""...Understood."He turned and left. I rolled around on the cloud bed twice.Three days later, I broke all three of his rules. Mount Olympus was massive. Did he really think I was just going to sit in a side room all day? Not a chance. The first time I harassed him, I disguised myself as a statue in the corner of his grand hall.Apollo was sitting on his throne, reading scrolls, frowning hard enough to crush a bug between his brows. Attendants came in one by one—"The Oracle at Delphi has an anomaly," "A plague in the mortal realm needs cleansing," "The Muses are fighting over poetry again," "Dionysus got drunk and tried to swim in th

He just raised a single finger and flicked it casually.A loud bang echoed through the trees.Damon’s body was thrown backward by an invisible force, slamming violently into a trunk. He coughed up blood and slid to the ground. Lyra dropped to her knees, screaming. "A god! He's a god! Mercy! Please have mercy!"Damon crawled forward and grabbed Apollo's ankle, his voice trembling. "My lord, spare me! I didn't know she was yours! I'll never do it again!" Apollo finally spoke, and his voice was ten times colder than it had been in
