After an awkward silence from Kain, I attempted to crawl my way out of his bed. If he is going to throw me out, I may as well make it easier on him. Right? I don’t get very far, as his hand grips my wrist, holding me back and keeping me from going any further. Confusion washes over me. I thought he would want to get rid of me the moment I confessed?

I still can’t stop myself from crying, nor can I look at him in any way, but I don’t fight his attempt to stop me from leaving. I hold my breath. Here comes his rejection. What happens next almost doesn’t seem real to me at all.

“I’ve known a long time,” Kain says almost too simply. “I will not throw you out,” he adds to what he had already said to me. My body quivers and shakes as I try to process what he has told me. I slowly look back towards him, unsure if I have heard him correctly.
