SHEBA'S POV

After a lot of thinking, I decided that the first thing I needed to know was exactly where I was in the novel. If I knew what point in the story I had entered, I could figure out what needed to happen next.

More importantly, I needed to find a way to reach Ezra.....That was my priority.

Ezra first.

Everything else could come afterward.

I also needed to avoid Preston, that idiot prince.

Thankfully, that shouldn't be too difficult.

My father loves me, and from what I remembered of the story, his kingdom was the one with the real advantage in this alliance. They were the ones who needed this marriage to happen.

Which means I have leverage.

I still couldn't understand how that entire situation had played out in the original story.

It always baffled me. His kingdom needed this marriage to strengthen its position, yet that idiot had the audacity to cheat on the princess and eventually contribute to her death.

A fool, that's what he was.

An absolute fool.

"Ahh, how I hate him."

I crossed my arms, just thinking about him annoyed me. I would rather die again than marry him and considering I had literally just died once, that statement said a lot.

There was absolutely no chance I was going to willingly marry that man. Now I just need to convince my father.

I stood from the bed and began pacing around the room. I needed a good excuse, something convincing enough that my father wouldn't immediately dismiss it.

Hmm.

I could tell him the prince was ugly.

I stopped.

Then shook my head.

No.

That was probably too childish.

Although...

I did like pretty things.

"I could say he's ugly and I like pretty things." I considered it for a moment before laughing softly.

No.

That would definitely not work.

Perhaps I could bring up the rumors surrounding his entanglement with that girl.

That might work better.

If the princess was already hearing rumors about the prince's behavior, then refusing to marry him wouldn't seem completely unreasonable.

Or...

I could simply tell my father that I didn't love him.

I frowned.

Actually, that might be the simplest explanation , I didn't love him and I had no obligation to marry someone I didn't love.

Well...

Technically, princesses had been forced into political marriages for centuries, but I wasn't going to start explaining that to myself.

This could work.

I really could avoid the marriage.

A small smile appeared on my face.

For the first time since waking up, I felt like I had some control over my situation.

Now that the most urgent matter was somewhat settled in my mind, I looked around my room again, I haven't explored this place yet.

Everything was so unfamiliar.

If my bedroom was this beautiful, I couldn't imagine what the rest of the palace looked like, I wanted to see it.

I needed to know where I was living and maybe exploring would help me understand this world a little better.

I walked toward the door.

Just as I opened it, however, someone was already standing outside. I nearly jumped. A man stood there, dressed in formal black clothing.

He looked like a butler.

His face was cold and composed, and he stood so straight that I immediately understood he was someone accustomed to discipline.

He bowed slightly.

"Good morning, Your Highness."

"Good morning."

He straightened.

"I hope you had a great night."

"I did. Thank you for your concern......." The words came naturally, I froze.

Oh, Right.

I had just arrived and I didn't know any of these people's names. I didn't have any of Alera's memories.

I was too distracted by everything happening around me to consider that little problem, If someone asked me something about Alera's life, I could easily expose myself.

That was a problem. As though my thoughts had summoned it, something suddenly happened.

Pain exploded through my head.

I gasped.

My vision blurred.

I grabbed the doorframe.

Memories that weren't mine rushed into my mind so quickly that I couldn't process them.

It was overwhelming.

I clenched my jaw and endured it.

I didn't want to attract attention again, I already gave these people enough reason to worry about me for one morning.

Slowly, the pain began to fade and I took a careful breath.

The butler was staring at me.

"Are you feeling alright, Your Highness?"

I straightened.

"I am fine, Wilbert. Nothing to worry about."

The name came out as naturally as if I had known him all my life.

Wilbert.

So that was his name.

He studied me for another moment.

He looked reluctant to accept my answer, but eventually gave a small nod.

Then he spoke again.

"I have come to inform you that His Majesty the King has asked that you attend dinner tonight."

"Dinner?"

"Yes, Your Highness. We will be having guests from Firildia joining us."

Firildia.

The name immediately registered in my mind.

My stomach dropped.

"Alright, Wilbert. I'll keep that in mind then."

He bowed.

"Of course, Your Highness."

Then he turned and walked away.

I remained standing in the doorway.

Firildia.

I knew that name. Unfortunately, I knew it very well. Firildia was the kingdom of that stupid prince.

My eyes widened.

That meant...

Today was the day.

The day they came to formally discuss the marriage.

The day the two kingdoms would begin arranging the alliance that eventually tied Princess Alera to the prince.

I stared down the corridor.

"Oh my..."

The realization hit me all at once.

I hadn't arrived at some random point in the novel.

I had arrived right at the beginning of one of the most important parts of Alera's story.

They were coming today.

The prince was coming today. If the story followed the same sequence I remembered, everything was about to begin. The eventual destruction, somewhere in all of that...was

Ezra.

My heart began beating faster, I didn't have time to prepare, I was just dropped straight into the middle of it.

"Oh my..."

I pressed a hand against my forehead.

"I am in so much trouble."

The plot was moving far too fast.

I held my teacup between my fingers, watching Luke carefully. He was still staring at me as like he couldn't decide whether to believe what I had just told him. Visions. It was a convenient explanation, not the truth, of course, but close enough to one that I could make him understand what I wanted him to know without exposing myself. I set my cup down. "I have seen how this story ends, Luke" Luke's expression changed. "How you treat me. How you hold that..." I paused, my eyes resting on him. "...girl higher than me. How you ruin everything your ancestors built with their sweat." My voice was calm, but there was no way of hiding the disgust behind my words, I spent enough time thinking about the story to know how ridiculous the entire situation was. Everything that had been built before Luke's generation would eventually be placed at risk because he couldn't control himself. And for what? A girl who would become the center of his entire world while everyone else paid the pr

  • I am utterly in love with the Grand Duke    Chapter 11

After everything that happened in Father's study, I decided that I needed a little peace.bThe next day, I went to the garden for tea. The weather was beautiful. The sun was warm without being harsh, and the gentle breeze felt wonderful against my skin. After the chaos of the previous day, sitting quietly with a cup of tea sounded perfect. I settled into my seat and let myself relax. For the first time since waking up in this world, I wasn't thinking about marriage proposals, political alliances, or how I was supposed to avoid dying. I simply enjoyed the afternoon. I lifted my cup, ready to take my first sip, then I was interrupted, rudely might I add "Your Highness." I paused. A guard stood a short distance away. "The prince has requested an audience." I lowered my cup, the prince?...as in Luke I stared at him. Weren't they supposed to return to Firildia today?....why are they still here? I sighed inwardly. Apparently, my peaceful afternoon wasn't going be so peaceful

  • I am utterly in love with the Grand Duke    Chapter 10

ALERA'S POV I couldn't believe I had never thought of it, it was so obvious. If I wanted to protect Ezra without raising suspicion or giving anyone a reason to question my intentions, then I had to marry him. I would be able to stay by his side, know where he was, know what he was doing, and, most importantly, protect him whenever necessary. I would get to see him, I would get to admire him more and I wouldn't have to come up with some ridiculous excuse for constantly being around the Grand Duke. I could simply say that I was his wife. The thought alone made me want to smile. My words were met with complete shock. The men in the room went silent for several moments, staring at me as though I had suddenly announced that I wanted to marry the king himself. I didn't blame them. They had probably come here expecting to secure a marriage between the prince and Princess Alera. Instead, I rejected their prince and volunteered to marry the most powerful unmarried man in the kingdom.

  • I am utterly in love with the Grand Duke    chapter 9

Her words left the room completely silent. For a moment, nobody seemed to know what to say.The men from Firildia had clearly not expected this. In fact they expected that they only had to contact the king but now..... Alera simply sat back in her chair, watching them with a satisfied smile. Did they really think they were going to get through this so easily? In the book, they had still needed to convince the king even after the proposed marriage had been discussed for some time. But now? The king wouldn't even have to consider it, Alera had already given him a valid reason to refuse and the best part was that there had never actually been any rumor about Luke's relationship with Evelyn. She had simply used what she knew from the book. Apparently, her knowledge of the story was going to be far more useful than she had initially imagined. The silence was eventually broken by the count. "Your Highness, I assure you that that is just a fling." Alera turned her attention toward h

  • I am utterly in love with the Grand Duke    chapter 8

Soon, they were all seated in the king's study. Alera deliberately chose a seat as far away from Luke as possible,.She had no desire to sit anywhere near him. From the moment they entered the study, Luke had looked as though he didn't want to be there. He barely spoke, and there was an unmistakable reluctance in his expression. Alera couldn't help but wonder if his little fling had something to do with it. She rolled her eyes at the thought. Of course it did. The man probably wanted to be anywhere but here. He probably wanted to be with Evelyn right now. He didn't want this but he had to for his land. In the book he really did gain a lot from the marriage but the fool couldn't even form a connection with Alera to keep it because of his obsession with that girl.Everyone settled into their seats, but nobody spoke immediately as they waited for the king's permission. King William sat behind his desk, his expression calm as he regarded the men from Firildia. After a moment, he gav

SHEBA'S POV There were so many hands on me. Some were working on my hair, others were attending to my feet, while another pair carefully adjusted my dress. I simply stood there and allowed them to do their work. I still haven't gotten used to this. Back in my old life, getting ready meant choosing my own clothes, doing my own hair, and leaving the house when I was satisfied with how I looked. Here, preparing for dinner required an entire team. As the maids moved around me, my mind drifted back to what I had read. Luke Floyd That was the prince's name. In the novel, when Luke first arrived, Alera didn't feel any love for him. She had been neutral, she didn't thrown herself at him or desperately tried to win his affection. But after their marriage, things changed. She began yearning for his affection, she wanted her husband to look at her the way he looked at Evelyn, that slut.... But she never begged for his love, she never humiliated herself for it. All she did was
