The lounge door opens again. Sophie appears, taking in the scene with wide eyes.

“Maya? I saw Cameron come in here and I thought… what’s going on?”

“Ask him.” Maya points at me. “Ask Ethan Moore who he really is.”

Sophie’s face goes pale. “Moore? As in…”

“As in the family that killed my father. As in he’s been lying about his identity this entire time.” Maya’s voice is shaking. “Get me out of here, Sophie. Please.”

“Of course. Come on.” Sophie wraps an arm around Maya’s shoulders.

“Maya, wait.”

{MAYA POV}Cameron Blake has been relentless.Flowers every other day. Lunch invitations I keep declining. Text messages that walk the line between supportive and opportunistic. And now, sitting across from me at this restaurant I didn’t really want to come to, a proposal I definitely don’t want to hear.“I know the timing isn’t ideal,” he says, sliding a folder across the table. “But Sterling Industries needs support right now. And I’m offering it.”I look at the folder without opening it. “What kind of support?”“Investment. Partnership. A merger of our companies.” He leans forward. “Think about it, Maya. Blake Industries and Sterling Industries combined would be unstoppable. We’d dominate the sustainable tech market.”“We’ve been through this before. I’m not interested in a merger.”“That was before. Before you knew what kind of man Ethan Moore really was. Before he destroyed your company’s integration project and left you scrambling to pick up the pieces.”He’s not wrong about the

{ETHAN POV}I’ve been hiding in a hotel room for six days.Six days of ignored calls, unanswered texts, room service I barely touch. Six days of staring at the ceiling, replaying that moment in the lounge when everything fell apart. Cameron’s smug face. Maya’s devastated eyes. The words “stay away from me” echoing in my head.My phone buzzes for the hundredth time today. Mom. Again.I let it go to voicemail. Again. But this time, there’s a knock at my door immediately after. Then Clara’s voice.“Ethan Moore, I know you’re in there. Derek told me which hotel. Open this door or I’m getting security to open it for me.”I don’t move.“I’m serious. I will cause a scene. You know I will.”She will. Clara’s never bluffed a day in her life.I drag myself off the bed and open the door.Clara takes one look at me and her expression shifts from angry to concerned. “Oh, sweetheart. You look terrible.”“Thanks. That’s helpful.”She pushes past me into the room, taking in the unmade bed, the untouc

“I know. And if I could undo what happened, if I could go back and force him to be honest from the start, I would. But I can’t.” Serena’s voice cracks. “All I can do is tell you that I’m sorry. For what Adrian did to your family. For what Ethan did to your daughter. For all of it.”I want to rage at her. Want to blame her for raising a son who could do this. But looking at her now, I see something familiar. A mother’s pain. A mother’s helplessness when her child makes choices she can’t control.“Where is he?” I ask. “Your son. Where is he now?”“I don’t know. He won’t answer my calls, won’t come to the house. Lucas thinks he’s at a hotel somewhere, but Ethan won’t tell us which one.”“Why?”“Shame, probably. Guilt. He knows what he’s done. He knows he’s destroyed the only real relationship he’s ever had.” She sits back down, looking suddenly exhausted. “I wanted to help him, to comfort him, but he won’t let anyone close right now.”“He wanted to see Maya one more time, didn’t he? That

  • I’m Back, Mr. CEO    BOOK 3 - CHAPTER 45: THE TWO MOTHERS MEET

{LIN POV}**Few Days Later**I’ve spent so many years hating the Moore family. It’s been a constant, burning thing. A fire that kept me going through bankruptcy, through Marcus’s death, through Maya’s accident and recovery. Hating them gave me purpose when I had nothing else. But standing outside ETHEREAL headquarters in New York, staring up at the gleaming building that represents everything the Moores built on the ruins of families like mine, I realize hatred isn’t enough anymore.I need answers. I need to look Serena Moore in the eye and ask her how she could raise a son who would do this to my daughter. The lobby is all glass and steel, modern and cold. A receptionist with a perfect smile asks if I have an appointment.“No. But I need to see Serena Moore. Tell her Lin Sterling is here. She’ll know why.”The receptionist’s smile falters. “Mrs. Moore doesn’t take unscheduled meetings. If you’d like to make an appointment—”“Tell her it’s about her son Ethan and what he did to my dau

So I do. I told her about the conference, about how Ethan approached me. About the partnership, the dates, the growing feelings. About discovering he was wealthy, about the fight, about the five days of silence. And then about this morning. Cameron walked in. The photos. The revelation.“He knew who I was the entire time,” I finished. “He knew about the bankruptcy, about Dad’s death, about the accident. And he still decided to lie to my face every single day.”Mom’s face is hard. “The Moores always take what they want, no matter who they hurt. Adrian did it to your father. Now his son does it to you.”“He said he loved me. That we were friends as children and he’s been searching for me for years.”“That’s what makes it worse. If it were true, if he really cared, he would have been honest from the start.” She takes my hand. “But the Moores don’t know how to love. They only know how to take it.”“I loved him, Mom.” The admission hurts. “I really loved him.”“I know, sweetheart. I know.”

  • I’m Back, Mr. CEO    BOOK 3 - CHAPTER 43: THE SHUTDOWN

{MAYA POV}I can’t stop shaking.Sophie drove me home from the summit, stayed with me while I changed out of my dress and into sweatpants, made me tea I haven’t touched. Now she’s sitting on my couch, watching me pace back and forth across my living room like a caged animal.“You need to sit down,” she says gently. “You’re going to wear a hole in the floor.”“I can’t sit. If I sit, I’ll have to think. And if I think, I’ll…” I can’t finish the sentence because I don’t know how it ends. Scream? Cry? Break something?“Maya, please. You’re scaring me.”I finally stop pacing, collapsing into the chair across from her. “He knew. The entire time, he knew.”“I know.”“He looked me in the eye and lied. Every single day for months.”“I know.”“He’s a Moore.” The name tastes like poison. “Ethan Moore. Son of Adrian Moore. The man who killed my father.”Sophie leans forward, taking my hands. “I’m so sorry. I should have pushed harder when I suspected something was off. I should have—”“This isn’t
