Chapter 1

"My parents and I came to visit you, ma'am," a sweet, childlike voice said.

I had a bandage wrapped around my forehead. I then looked down at my five-year-old son, Julian Palmer. He was smiling mischievously with both his hands held by two adults.

Yohan Palmer, well-dressed and standing by the side, seemed to have no intention of correcting Julian's way of addressing me. Instead, he was looking at me with a hint of curiosity.

The woman, whose hand Julian held, was dressed in a long, white dress. She had an elegant and gentle air, yet she was nervously tucking a strand of hair behind her ear under my scrutiny.

Yohan noticed the way I was staring at Emily Walker. He then stood protectively in front of her.

If I truly had lost my memories, I might actually believe that these people before me were a loving family of three.

Julian tugged at Yohan's hand and whispered, "Since Mommy lost her memories, does that mean you guys can get a divorce now, Daddy?"

Although he was whispering, he was loud enough for me to hear him.

I knew this was one of Julian's tricks. He was punishing me for scolding and embarrassing him in front of the household staff yesterday. He was upset about it.

This was just another of his usual pranks—he took pleasure in punishing me. But I no longer wanted to play along with his pranks.

Since I claimed to have lost my memories, I would just keep up my act and pretend that I didn't have a son and a husband.

"Excuse me, but who are you people?" I asked.

Julian looked surprised. He sounded somewhat anxious when he said, "Do you really not remember me? That's impossible! I'm your child—the one you loved the most!"

Yohan frowned. His gaze was cold and his voice was laced with clear impatience. "Stop pretending, Naomi. The doctor said you only had a mild concussion—it's nothing serious. Don't think losing your memories would get you out of our divorce."

"That's right—stop pretending! How could you forget us when you love us so much?" Julian looked just like a carbon copy of Yohan with his brows furrowed.

I only felt a headache creeping up.

The nurse knocked on the door before I could reply. She said, "The patient needs to rest. Everyone else, please step outside."

Yohan and Julian immediately left with Emily.

The nurse walked over and said, "Your husband just came earlier. He's now out to buy you some oatmeal."

"My husband?" I was confused. Didn't she just kick him out earlier?

The nurse gave me a wink. "That's right. I was actually in obstetrics and gynecology four years ago, so I've seen both of you several times. It's really hard to forget a couple so good-looking like you two."

I did have my prenatal checkups done at this hospital four years ago, but not even once did Yohan come with me.

The nurse continued, "Besides, your husband was one of the few who wasn't on his phone at all. He had been waiting anxiously by the door for you to finish your checkup. He's tall, handsome, caring, and attentive—we nurses couldn't help but swoon over him back then!

"By the way, who's the man and child from earlier? Although they were handsome, they had such dark expressions. I almost thought they were here to ask for a fight!"

I couldn't help but burst out laughing.

Yohan never attended any of the 14 prenatal checkups. Instead, the one who accompanied me was Samuel Spencer—my brother who was five years younger than me. He was only 18 years old back then.

I did not bother explaining the relationship between me, Yohan, and Julian. After all, we would no longer be related soon enough.

Before long, Samuel came in panting and holding a lunchbox. I was already starving—I hadn't eaten all day, and my stomach was starting to hurt.

Yohan was suddenly overwhelmed with a deep sense of panic as if something was quietly slipping away from him.People were always slow to realize things. They only understand the value of things after losing them.Yohan started scrolling through Naomi's old social media posts and the daily updates she once shared with him.He couldn't help but laugh as he read through their chat history, where she had vividly described things to him.Yohan never realized how interesting her texts were before. However, she was the one sending him long messages most of the time—he rarely replied or even checked them.Naomi gradually started sharing fewer updates with him. She eventually stopped texting him first.A person's desire to share would never vanish—it would only shift elsewhere. As such, she started confiding in Samuel about the little things in her life.Without realizing it, he had subtly woven himself into every part of Naomi's life. Yet Yohan paid no attention to it, thinking that the

I had just signed a huge deal with a client and was about to drive back when I ran into Emily. She invited me to a cafe for a drink. She started by saying, "Ms. Spencer, back in the hospital, I thought Yohan was trying to test if you truly lost your memories, which was why I didn't speak up. I owe you an apology for that. "Emily lowered her head and continued, "I shouldn't have gotten in the way of you and Yohan's lives, and I definitely shouldn't have let money tempt me into becoming Julian's piano teacher."I replied, "My divorce with Yohan is definitely not because of you, so you don't have to blame yourself. I know you're not that type of person."I still owed Emily a favor.Back in sophomore year, she had joined our class briefly. At that time, Emily was considered one of the prominent heiresses in Jyndale, yet she was never arrogant or boastful. She had always greeted people with a warm smile, having a secure identity of herself. At 17, I was vain and eager to fit into Yoh

Samuel asked, "Why would Naomi get into a car accident? That's because you left her on the highway for Emily!"Where were you when she was sick and suffering? Have you ever recalled that she was your wife when you left her alone time and again?"Yohan felt bitterness in his mouth. He wanted to refute, yet everything Samuel had said was true. It was as if someone was grabbing him by the neck—he couldn't speak, and his mind went blank. When I heard from my assistant that Yohan had stormed into the company looking for Samuel, I immediately called the security guards and headed to the top-floor office."What are you doing, Yohan?" As soon as we exited the elevator, I saw Yohan grabbing Samuel by his collar, enraged. The security guards went ahead to stop Yohan, while I stood before Samuel. The swollen bruise near his mouth stood out on his pale face. He was tearing up, looking pitiful. My heart ached as I caressed his cheek."Is this how you were raised?" I looked at Yohan calmly.

I replied nonchalantly, "You're right. It really is brandy."I walked ahead, leaving Samuel, who was flushed all the way to his ears, stunned in place. He quickly caught up and pulled me into a tight embrace, bending slightly to wrap himself around me. He nestled his head into the crook of my neck, squirming like a happy child. He muttered repeatedly, "I like you so much, Naomi—"Samuel seemed to have sobered up as soon as we arrived home. He pressed me against the door, asking, "Can I kiss you, Naomi?"When he saw me nodding, his gaze lit up with intense passion. Samuel kissed me to the bed, nipping lightly at my collarbone. As if sensing my trembling, he paused and closed in on me. He said wetly, "Stop pushing me away, Naomi."I unbuckled his belt in the dark.…Yohan drank moodily at the gathering organized by his friends. The gossip around him caught his attention.Suddenly, he flipped the table beside him."What did you say? Samuel is just an adopted son of the Spencers

Today was a Sunday. As soon as I opened the door, I saw Julian holding onto a large photo album. He acted casually, slipping through the door crack and sat on the couch. It was as if he had forgotten that he had called me to beg for his forgiveness the last time he was here.Julian flipped open the photo album and pulled me over. "Look, Mommy—this was when I was still in your tummy! And this was when I was just born! Aren't I cute? Grandma said I was the cutest baby in the entire hospital!"He was trying to stir up my motherly love for him. But as I looked at my photo, all I felt was a deep sense of pity for the person I was back then.I was looking gaunt in the photo, yet my belly was round and swollen.Back then, I was tormented by morning sickness, throwing up everything I ate. I looked completely drained, even my hair was dry and lifeless.Julian was especially mischievous, always kicking me in the middle of the night.Looking at the photos, I couldn't help but sigh. "How se

Sometimes, I suspected that Samuel was trying to seduce me, but I had no evidence. For instance, he was currently brewing coffee for me dressed in casual wear—soft cotton white T-shirt paired with grey sweatpants. He looked just like a college student, which wasn't too far off since he had just graduated from college.I lay on the couch, appreciating Samuel's youthful physique. No wonder people were into sugar babies. He came over with my coffee, and I started flipping through my magazine in all seriousness. I then took a sip from the coffee he handed me.As soon as Samuel sat down, Fluffy jumped onto his lap and settled down. My attention was drawn to Fluffy kneading on his grey sweatpants. My gaze couldn't help but wander elsewhere. "So big—" I mumbled.Samuel scooted closer and whispered in my ear, "Where are you looking at, Naomi?"I felt a ticklish sensation in my ear. My gaze flickered around as I held my breath. "I-I mean the cat has grown so big now—"I rushed back int
