Terrance Burgess slapped me in front of the entire company, all because I accidentally knocked over his assistant's vase. My five-year-old son, Claude Burgess, stood off to the side, clapping like it was something worth cheering for. Afterward, the assistant walked up to me while holding the bouquet the father and son had given her, showing it off right in my face. "So what if you're the wife? The one who isn't loved is the real outsider." I looked at her calmly. "Then you'd better watch yourself. If he can have you on the side, he can just as easily find someone else after you." I used to think I had a happy, complete family. Until Terrance's assistant came along and made me realize it had all been in my head. The love from that father and son had already moved on to someone else. That was the moment something in me went completely still. I called a number I hadn't contacted in years. "Dad, I want to come home and take over the family business."

I’m Not Your Second Choice Chapter 9
Terrance's POV:I met Vivian when I was 18. She stepped into my dull, gray world like something out of a dream and gave me a kind of hope I had never known before. We came from the same kind of background, both raised in poor families. But she was different from me. She was always brighter, more optimistic. Somewhere along the way, I fell for her completely. With her encouragement, I started my own business after graduation. Maybe I just got lucky, but in only two years, I was already sitting in the CEO's chair at a major company.I thought it was all because of my ability. I believed I had built everything from nothing and lifted Vivian into a better life along with me.So I proposed. I wanted to spend the rest of my life loving her.In our second year of marriage, she suddenly said she wanted me to meet her parents.Even though my life had improved, the poverty I grew up in still clung to me like a shadow. I couldn't shake the inferiority it left behind. So, I didn't dare meet
I’m Not Your Second Choice Chapter 8
Somehow, Terrance and Claude found out where I lived. They started lingering around the neighborhood, refusing to leave. My parents didn't want them affecting me, so they arranged for ten bodyguards to stand watch outside, just in case those two tried to force their way in.I stood by the window, looking down at them. They looked worn out, thinner than before. But I felt nothing.Just then, a black sedan pulled up beside them. Stephanie stepped out in heels.I couldn't hear what they were saying from that distance, but I could see her crying, begging them to go back with her.The two of them didn't move. They stayed there like they were possessed, ignoring her completely. At one point, they even pushed her to the ground.Later, I found out she had come to take them home. She wanted Terrance to sign the divorce papers and marry her. He refused. After that, everything between them fell apart.Terrance slapped her hard in front of the entire company.Stephanie gave up completely

The client recognized me. The way he looked at me and my father felt a little off, but he didn't say anything. It wasn't until the meeting was about to end, when Terrance pushed the private room door open, that I realized what he had been thinking: he had assumed my father was some rich man I was seeing on the side.Terrance stood in the doorway, eyes bloodshot, staring at me."You suddenly divorced me and disappeared. Was it because of him?"In all six years of dating and marriage, he had never met my parents. At first, I had avoided it, worried it might hurt his pride.By our second year of marriage, I wanted to introduce him to them. But he always claimed he was too busy. I believed him back then. Now, I knew the truth. After becoming a CEO, he had started looking down on them.He thought my parents were poor. He thought having them as in-laws was embarrassing. But he used to be poor, too. When I didn't answer, Terrance grew more agitated and suddenly lunged forward, rais

Half a month after coming home, I followed my father to the company to sit in on things, so I could ease into the role once I officially stepped in.As we turned a corner, an employee rushed past and ran straight into me. She was holding a small slice of cake. The impact sent the cake flying all over me. My father's face went pale instantly, and he moved to take me to the hospital.I shook my head and stopped him. The cream had only gotten on my clothes. It hadn't touched my skin, so I would be fine.Even so, my father was furious. He scolded the employee harshly. I knew she hadn't meant it, so I explained and told her not to take his words to heart. Only then did she finally relax.I looked at the deep crease in my father's brow, the worry written all over his face, and felt my throat tighten. I stepped forward, slipped my arm through his, and smiled. "Dad, I'm hungry. Let's go eat."Seeing that I was really okay, he finally relaxed a little and nodded, taking me to lunch.Ri

Terrance thought I had been in the bathroom too long and came to check. The moment he opened the door, a sharp scream from Stephanie came from behind him.He didn't even glance at me before turning and rushing back.Stephanie had knocked her knee against the edge of the table. It was just a small

Something in my head snapped. I stared at Terrance in utter disbelief. He acted as if I weren't even there, his gaze fixed on Stephanie, admiration written all over his face."Everything looks good on you."Fine. We were done, anyway. I didn't need that teddy bear. That was what I told myself,

When I opened the door, Terrance and Claude were standing there, with Stephanie between them, holding a piece of cake."What took you so long? You left Stephanie standing out here forever." Terrance strode over and slammed into my shoulder.I staggered back a couple of steps, catching myself again
