Luca’s POV
Alex got down from the car first.
He didn’t say much at first. He just gave that look he always gave when his mind was scanning every corner. His eyes moved around like he was expecting trouble. He leaned toward the two guards we brought along.
“If anything feels off,” he told them in a low voice, “call immediately. Don’t wait.”
They nodded without speaking.
I stepped out of the car slowly, adjusting my jacket. The sun wasn’t too hot, but there was this heaviness in the air.
I looked at Alex. “Why are you acting like we’re about to walk into a cartel meeting?” I asked him in Italian.
He didn’t smile. “I’m just being careful, boss. We could be walking into a trap right now.”
I shook my head. “If it was, I would’ve known before I even got out of the car.”
Still, Alex stayed alert.
We entered the building. A young beautiful woman at the front desk stood up as soon as she saw us. I felt as if the lipstick she had on was too much like she lacked moderation.
She gave a polite smile. “Mr. De Rossi, we've been expecting you. Please follow me.”
I nodded. She led the way, and we followed.
The building was quiet. Polished floors. Cool air. The kind of place that was trying to look modern and expensive. It didn’t smell like dust or old money. It smelled like glass and ambition.
We reached a wide conference room on the third floor. The doors opened, and I saw them waiting.
Two young men.
And one older face I knew very well.
“Giorgio,” I said as I stepped in.
He stood and smiled. “Luca. It’s been too long.”
“It has,” I replied.
He gave a small laugh. “I suppose that’s a good thing. You’ve been staying out of trouble.”
I gave a lazy smirk. “Or maybe I’m just hiding it better.”
We shook hands, and he motioned to the seat at the head of the table. I took it. Alex didn’t sit. He stood behind me like a shadow, arms crossed.
“Let’s get to it,” Giorgio said. “These are the two young men I mentioned. They have something to show you.”
The boys stepped forward. Their nervousness was so obvious. They greeted me. One of them tried to say something in Italian. I didn’t respond. Just looked at him until he stopped.
Giorgio cleared his throat. “Mr De Rossi’s time is not to be wasted. Please, get right into it.”
They nodded quickly.
Then came their pitch.
It was a tech idea. Something about apps, about secure transactions and user growth. I listened. They fumbled with words a few times. One of them forgot a figure. The other one spoke too fast.
But I saw what they were trying to build. It wasn’t bad. Not bad at all.
Giorgio asked the questions. He leaned forward, interested. He was sharp. Always had been. The boys answered as best as they could. Not confident, but not clueless either.
I let them talk.
Then I leaned back in my chair.
“How much?” I asked.
They paused, unsure who should speak. One of them opened his mouth, started to give a long explanation.
“Stop,” Giorgio said. “He asked how much. Not why.”
They looked down for a second. Then they gave the number. One million dollars.
I nodded. “I’ll give it to you.”
Their eyes lit up.
“And fifty percent more in fact,” I added.
They smiled now.
“But,” I said, “I want fifty-one percent of the business.”
Their faces changed.
“That’s more than half,” one of them said.
“That means we lose control,” the other whispered.
“That means you get a future,” Giorgio said. His voice was calm but firm. “And you’re lucky to get that.”
They looked at each other, then back at the table.
I didn’t press them. I just waited.
Finally, one of them nodded. “Okay. Yes.”
“Good,” Giorgio said. He told them to wait outside for a few minutes. They left the room quietly.
I turned to him. “You believe in these guys?”
“I do,” he said.
“I’m only doing it because of you Guorgio,” I told him. “So if it goes bad, it’s on you. So it better be worth it.”
He nodded. “I understand.”
I didn’t need him to explain. He knew what that meant.
There was a pause.
“I might need you for something else soon,” I said.
He raised an eyebrow. “Something else?”
“I want to set up a business for Maria.”
He looked confused. “Maria…?”
He turned to Alex.
Alex gave a small nod. “It’s still in the works. You’ll understand soon.”
Giorgio looked between the two of us and said nothing.
“I want something clean,” I added. “Something smart. If it’s not too much trouble, help us think of something.”
“Of course,” he said. “I’d be glad to.”
I stood. “Then we’ll talk soon.”
Giorgio stood too. “Anytime.”
I didn’t look back when I left the room. I already had what I came for.
And I had something else now too.
An idea that maybe, just maybe, I could give Maria her own world.
Maria’s POVI got to the bar before Liam.Thank God.I didn’t want him thinking I lied. I hated that I even had to lie about being here in the first place. I took my usual spot, the seat on the counter directly opposite the bar man's post. The barman, the same guy from the last few times, saw me and smiled.“You want your usual?” he asked.I nodded. “Yes, please.”He gave a small nod and moved away to get it for me. I watched him for a while, then before he left completely, I leaned a little forward and asked him if I could ask him something quickly to which he nodded.“If you had good money to start a business, what kind would you start?”He didn’t even pause.“A bar.”That was it. Just those two words. Then he turned and walked away to get me my drink. No explanation. No long story.Just “a bar.”But something about it hit me hard. Like it wasn’t just him who spoke. It felt… bigger. Like a sign. Something spiritual almost. Like a voice I didn’t know I was waiting to hear.I sat back
Maria’s POVI just got out of the shower. My hair was still wet, sticking lightly to the sides of my face. The air in the room was quiet, soft. I wrapped myself in a towel and sat on the couch in my room.I just sat and stared.Into space.Again.The business. Yes. That was what I was supposed to be thinking about. What kind of business I could start. Something for me. Something useful. Something Luca could use to clean money, as he called it.But no idea came.Instead, Sophia’s voice came.“I’ve heard things about Luca…”Her words hit me again like they did yesterday. I tried to brush it off then, but it stayed. Sat in the back of my mind like a weight. She was scared for me. I could hear it in her voice. And maybe… maybe she was right. What broke me more than her warning was the truth I knew but couldn't say out loud. How did I get involved with Luca in the first place?I closed my eyes.My mind taking me back to the art gallery. That was where we met. A luxury space filled with col

Maria’s POVI didn’t want to waste the day. Not today.I sat up slowly from the bed, still remembering how Luca and I had made love to each other like we were the only ones left in the world. His scent was still on the sheets. His warmth still lingering near my skin.As much as I wanted to stay in bed, soaked in his scent and in the memories of our time together, I needed to do some thinking.Luca said I needed to think of a business, something I could do on my own. Not just for the sake of doing something, but because he needed it for… cleaning money. That part still sounded too big for me. Like something from the movies. But this was real.I got up, tied my robe, and walked to the small desk by the window. I turned on the lamp and opened a note while scrolling through my phone.I wasn’t even sure what to search for.I typed in the first thing that came to my head: business ideas for women.Endless results came in. Lists and videos. Top ten. Easy-start. Low-cost. Beginner-friendly.
Luca’s POVI woke up just a little over an hour after we’d both fallen asleep again. The room was still dim and Maria was laying on my chest. She looked peaceful.I didn't want to wake her.Quietly, I lifted her off me, careful not to stir her. I stood from the bed and pulled on my pants. The floor was cold under my feet, but I didn’t mind.My mind was already switching into the day ahead. There were calls to make, people to meet, and a few other things to get done. I needed to be out soon.Just as I picked up my shirt, I heard her voice, soft but clear.“Luca?”I turned. She was awake now, stretching slightly as the blanket slipped off her shoulder. Her hair was messy from sleep, her eyes half-open.“I have to go now, Maria.” I said, walking back to the bed, brushing her hair off her face. “Work.”“What about me?” Maria sat up slowly, hugging her knees underneath the blanket. “I want to work too.”I raised a brow. “What?”“I want a job. Something I can do. I want to be more involved,
Maria's POVI woke up the next morning wrapped in Luca’s arms. The early morning light slipped through the curtains in soft lines, giving the room warm shadows.Luca's chest was warm against my back, and the way he held me… it felt like he didn’t want to let go. Like even in his sleep, it felt like he needed me so close to him.I smiled a little, pressing my body into his, just to feel him more. His scent was still there—sweet, calm, familiar. I let my nose rest near his neck and just breathed him in.He didn’t say a word, didn’t open his eyes. But I felt his arm tighten around me. Not roughly. Just enough to pull me closer.I stayed there, thinking. About last night. About the way he had touched me. The way he came to me like I was what mattered. Like I wasn’t just someone to fill a space—but now someone he wanted to keep. And then… I felt his hand move. He slid up slowly from my waist to my breast. And I knew what was coming.I turned around to face him. His eyes were still closed,
