Zane’s POV
I looked at the humble abode in front of me and wondered what fresh surprise was waiting for me inside this time. I had been to this same house at least six times before today and out of those six times, never did the interiors look the same twice. It looked like a simple one story building, but inside it, it could be anything from a hut to a castle. The first time I had come here was five years ago and that time, it looked like a normal house and I didn’t know any better. However, I had visited it a week later to collect the specialized charm I had ordered last time. I was shocked when instead of the cozy home from the past week; I found a single large room that looked as if it was straight out of a sixteenth century manor. I had gone out to make sure I had the right home, even if I knew that I couldn’t have entered a wrong house with my tracking skills.

Kayla’s POVI would love to say that the past week flew by even before I could blink, but if I say that, then I would be lying. Because it passed by with such agonizing slowness that it felt as if each minute felt like eons. Maybe it was because of how eager I was for time to pass that it ended up feeling slow instead. But slow or not, the week passed and now; I was pacing back and forth in my office, waiting for a certain someone to arrive.Once I had called him the day after he left, it was as if I had flipped a switch on in Zane. As if me calling him was the explicit permission he required to call me back, he made it a habit of calling me from the next day. At first it was once a day but after two days, he began calling randomly throughout the day saying that something or the other reminded him of me and he wanted to hear my voice. One time it was ‘I saw a gray cloud that reminded me of your stormy eyes an
Kayla’s POVA mirror, a Boomerang, a pen, and was that a rock? The things were so random that I couldn’t link them in any way, however much I tried. I looked up at Zane with alarm and frowned when I saw his proud expression. Was the pressure too much that he lost it?“I am not crazy, my darling mate.”I raised my brows at him.“That is what every crazy man believes. What other explanation do you have for bringing all these crap here?”He rolled his eyes at me before picking a plastic honey bee from the bag. Seriously? A honey bee? And he is claiming that he hadn’t lost it!“Well, this one here is spelled such that it will cast the illusion of a swarm of bees when the enemies look at it.”“That sounds good, but why in the world would the spell be put in these weird objects instead of just using spheres or vials or something where normal wit
Kayla’s POV“Do you think this is close enough to the Unseelie realm to open the Portal or should we walk further?” I asked Zane.We were standing in the darker part of the Neutral territory, close to the place where I had interrogated the rogue just a little over a week ago. Zane had told me that the Portal would work from anywhere in the Neutral territory, but I didn’t want to take a risk considering we have to smash the mirror. There will never be a second chance if it turned out we weren’t close enough to the Unseelie realm for it to work.“Seeing as if we are as deep into the Dark forest as we could possibly go before reaching the boundaries, I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. Unless you want to see firsthand if you have any hidden fae blood in you that would let you pass through the fae border without using any Portal.”“I already know I don’t have
Kayla’s POVI watched the men who sat merrily, joking amongst themselves as if they were just a few normal guys out for a day of camping in the forest. But I knew firsthand how looks could be deceptive and that these men were anything but normal. I could literally feel the evil aura emanating from them, and I was not even someone normally sensitive to such things. My eyes locked on the man who sat in the center and appeared to be the leader of the group. He had curly golden hair up to his shoulders, and his eyes appeared to be a lighter shade of green. He even had a dimple when he smiled, and I suddenly had the urge to go and choke him to wipe that damn smile off his face.I took a few deep breaths in and out to calm myself. Don’t act rashly, Kayla. Stick to the plan, I chided myself. Then I looked back to the blonde-haired guy who I knew was Gregory. He looked as if he was in his mid-twenties, but I knew he
Kayla’s POVAll our carefully laden plans fled my mind as the mages flew in our direction. I forgot everything and my mind resorted to the default state that I fall into whenever faced with danger; fight till there is no one standing in front of me.I started throwing whatever spells I could get my hands into, forgetting all instructions. Some of them worked while some which required additional procedures just hit the men and fell into the ground harmlessly. From my peripheral vision, I saw Zane doing the same and I would have rolled my eyes at him if we weren’t in the middle of an attack. So much for his plans…But then, there was nothing more in the bag and slowly, I turned to Zane. He looked at me with a panicked expression before a look of determination crossed his face. I was sure I was mirroring his expression and as one; we turned to face the mages who staggered to a stop, feeling our deadly ga
Kayla’s POVAs I let my Feral self take over, my rage grew tenfold, and I felt my strength increase by a hundred times. The power rush felt addictive, and I wanted to bask in the feeling for a while, but I had business to take care of first. It was time to be the killing machine I was...I smirked and took a step towards the men, but paused when I realised that the spell still bound me. I looked down at my hands, which were staying immobile by my waist, and frowned with annoyance. The mages who were quaking with terror after my Feral transformation regained their confidence once they realised that their spell still bound me and was not a threat. They puffed their chests out and marched over to me.“Come on princess, Master is waiting for you,” one of them taunted me.“I will kill you all once I get free from this stupid bond!” I promised.“You can try, girl. But since y
Kayla’s POVGregory staggered a few steps back and looked at me with fear in his eyes.“The monster I made? What do you mean?” he breathed out.“So bad, Gregory… You should have known what the hell you were doing before sending an army of rogue wolves to kill my pack. You created this monster when you sent your minions with the Enchantra powder and asked them to use it on me. This happened to me because of you. Are you glad to see how your little experiment fared?”“I thought-”“You thought what?”“I- It was just supposed to suppress your wolf while they brought you to me…”“Well, how do you know that? Had you seen the effects of it on any wolf before you decided to use it on me?”“I did! I used it on a rogue wolf and made sure that his wolf was suppressed!” he defended himself.
Kayla’s POVI growled at Gregory when he hesitated to reveal his ally’s name, and he whimpered in response.“Ste- Stephen…”For a moment, I just stared at him blankly as I tried to remember any Stephen who was an enemy of my pack. But then, the name really registered in my mind and I gasped in disbelief. My eyes met Gregory’s and realizing my confusion, he nodded at me. No… it can’t be!From my peripheral vision, I absent mindedly noticed Zane walking towards me in his human form and realised that he must have changed back sometimes in the last few minutes while I was busy interrogating Gregory. He was wearing only a shorts and normally, I would have taken the time to admire his shirtless body, but not now. Not when it felt as if my whole world was falling apart and my entire life was a lie...“Steph- Stephen, as in Stephen Xanders?” I whispered.
