Chapter 2

When we reached home, it was already very late at night.

After a long day, my leg was in so much pain that I could barely stand.

My parents were paying their full attention to Dax and Daphne.

When they finally remembered me, I had already been sitting on the couch for two hours.

Mom coughed lightly, but her expression softened after that.

However, before she could speak, Dax teared up again.

He flung the item away from his hand and roared at me angrily.

“Jude, how dare you guilt-trip me just to force me to give you my bedroom?”

After he said that, he prepared to run out of the house again.

Mom started to panic as she quickly stopped him.

She turned around to slap me.

It had been in the spur of the moment, so regret had immediately set in when she raised her hand.

So, she did not hit me very hard.

It was not painful at all.

However, my heart was shattered by the blow.

I could hear my voice trembling violently.

“Mom, I didn’t mean to snatch Dax’s bedroom from him.

“It’s just because it hurts too much for me to stand.”

Dax sneered after hearing that.

“What a coincidence for your leg to fail at this very moment. How did you end up sitting right across my bedroom for two hours?”

Mom gritted her teeth and sounded even colder.

“Let him keep the act up if he wants to.

“He can sit on the couch the whole night if he wishes to!”

After that, Mom walked away with Dax in a tow.

When Daphne walked past me, she bumped into my leg. I did not know if she did it on purpose.

She heard me gasping in pain.

She peered down at me and said very coldly, “Jude, you’ve already hogged all of Mom and Dad’s attention with your leg for the past ten years.

“We’re just getting it back a little, and you can’t even take it.”

I did not say a word and smiled bitterly.

I suddenly recalled when my leg was injured, my parents still chose a double-storied house that Dax liked.

Also, I remembered when we were distributing the bedrooms, Dad came to me cautiously and said that Dax liked sunlight in his bedroom, and that Daphne needed a bigger room for her closet.

All that remained was a windowless, tiny bedroom on the second floor.

Mom even found a great excuse for that.

“The second floor is great, let Jude have it. When Jude climbs the stairs, it’s basically physiotherapy.

“Jude, we’re only making this arrangement because we love you. If Dax and Daphne find out about this, they would be upset again.”

I stood in the dark living room and tried to control my breaths.

However, tears still splattered on the back of my hands.

The tears felt shockingly hot against my skin.

Had my parents favored me for ten years?

Why did I not feel it at all?

It was midnight when I saw Mom walking toward the trash can with my medicine.

She met my gaze, and there was a brief flash of discomfort on her face.

In the end, she looked cold and determined.

“Dax and Daphne had had the flu these two days. Your medicine is taking up too much space in our medicine chest.

“Your father and I have discussed this for a whole night. Both of us feel that we should be fair toward the three of you.

“We can’t give you any special treatment just because you’ve been hurt before.

“Jude, do you understand me?”

I stared at my painkillers in the trash can.

In the past, I had depended on painkillers to endure the excruciating pain I felt.

With that, I managed to live a little better.

I did not try to argue with her.

I just nodded my head softly.

After all, I was going to leave.

There was no point for my medicine to take up space any longer.
