Chapter 1

As I knelt on the floor for about five minutes, I felt pain prickling in my knees.

My face turned pale from the pain.

My parents clearly saw the change in my complexion.

In the past, they would have already quickly helped me up and insisted on sending me to the hospital.

However, Dad still continued pressing down on my shoulder.

Mom’s face still remained cold.

She was looking at me with immense disappointment with her icy eyes.

“We’ve only punished you for five minutes, and you’re pretending that you can’t take it anymore.

“Jude, isn’t it enough that we’ve put up with your act all the time?”

I felt a lump in my throat as I felt humiliated and upset.

I wanted to tell Mom that I was really in pain, but I decided against it.

The only thing I could do was try to stop my body from shaking from the pain.

Just when I almost passed out, Mom’s phone rang.

She answered the call, and she immediately looked excited and happy.

“Both kids have been found?

“Great, we’ll come over now.”

All of us quickly went to the police station.

After three days, Dax and Daphne looked a little dirty.

However, their gazes were still defiant.

“You must be their parents. Don’t you know that if we were 30 minutes late, both of them could’ve been trafficked?”

Upon hearing that, Mom hugged both of them and cried.

Dad was very anxious, yet he stayed his raised hand.

With a resentful gaze, Dax shrugged free from Mom’s embrace.

“Don’t pretend to care about us. We were almost trafficked because we just wanted to earn some quick money to repay Jude’s debt!”

Daphne also said coldly, “Just name your price. How much do we have to pay to clear our debt to him?”

The police officer could not stand it anymore.

“How could you do that as their parents? Even if you favor your youngest son, you can’t force your older children to work.”

Upon hearing that, Mom’s sobs became louder.

“It’s all our fault. None of you owe Jude anything. You don’t need to repay anything, nothing at all.”

Dad also comforted them softly. His eyes were filled with regret.

I stood before the police station and looked at the loving family of four before me.

I did not even have the courage to walk into the police station.

As I stood anxiously at the entrance, I grabbed the corner of my shirt. A shiver running down my spine.

At the same time, I received a call from the hospital.

It was time for my physiotherapy.

The moment Dr. Xander Reid’s voice came through from the phone, they finally glanced at me.

Dax seemed to think of something. A familiar sneer appeared on his face.

Daphne did not say a word as she shook Dad’s hand off her shoulder.

It was the first time I felt that my presence was an eyesore.

I forced a smile on my face.

However, before I could speak, Mom immediately spoke to Xander.

“From now on, Jude won’t be attending any physiotherapy sessions.”

Mom immediately hung up the phone, cutting Xander off mid-utterance.

I knew what Xander was about to say.

After all, a week ago, he had already reminded me that the complications from my burns were getting progressively worse.

If I stopped my physiotherapy sessions, I would have a high chance of losing a leg.

My parents were smiling at Dax and Daphne.

I silently watched them in a daze. Suddenly, I realized that they had not smiled at me like that in such a long time.
