Camille’s POV

I watched Adrian enter the hospital room, he walked gently to me and sat at the bed.

“Camille,” he said quietly. “I know you want to push me away but I’m staying.”

I looked at his eyes, I saw uttermost sincerity in them.

“Why do you want to stay?” I asked him.

“Because I want to stay. Because I want to help you.” He looked directly into my eyes. “I don’t want you to think you are owing me, you are not.”

I nodded. I didn’t want t to argue with him. This man has been the one helpin

Camile's POV I opened Professor George Hawthorne's file that Daniel had sent me on my laptop. I opened the first document.GEORGE HAWTHORNE - FINANCIAL RECORDS. I scrolled through it quickly; I saw properties, charity donations, speaking engagements, and consulting fees. I saw nothing to use against him.I picked up another document; I saw nothing. I picked the third, same thing.I frowned and reached for my phone."Daniel." He answered immediately. "Yov've been through the files?" "I'mgoing through it now." "And?" "He's clean."Daniel laughed. "George Hawthorne? Clean?""His public records are clean." "That wasn't what I said."I clicked on another document."Keep looking. You'll find something."I opened the next file. A company registration appeared on the screen. HAWTHORNE EDUCATIONAL CONSULTATION LTD.I scrolled through the directors. There was him, his son, and another man I didn't recognize. Then I opened the financial records, My fingers stopped immediately when I saw

  • I was His wife. Now I am His Nemesis    Chapter 29: No More Distractions

Camille’s POV Stealing contracts from Marcus should have felt satisfying. It didn’t. Weeks passed after the call from Adrian. I didn’t bother calling him and I avoided him. He didn’t call back. He didn’t visit either. It was best if we stayed away from each other. Adrian had become a sweet distraction I never planned for. Julian and Vincent started school in Valmont. All I wanted was for them to have a normal life. A life far away from scandals, power games and men like Marcus. My company in Valmont continued thriving. I kept taking contracts Marcus expected to win and every loss got under his skin. But stealing contracts from him wasn’t enough. It irritated him. It bruised his ego. I didn’t come back to irritate Marcus. I came back to become his nemesis. I was able to keep myself hidden using the name Veronica Thompson. The realization settled like something heavy in my chest. I had been moving carefully, trying to avoid noise, mistakes and doing everything possible to stay

Camille’s POV “Julian!! Vincent!!” I screamed their names. I wasn’t clear headed at the moment. I wanted to find my kids. I should have stayed. I shouldn’t have left. If I had stayed, they would not have been taken. I didn’t know when tears started dripping down my eyes. “Camille, calm down. Let’s look for them,” Daniel said. “They might not be far away.” “What should we do right now?” I asked. Daniel could see the panic all over my body. “Let’s check the CCTV of the restaurant,” he said. We ran out of the garage. We headed towards the receptionist. I halted when I heard their voices. I turned immediately. There they were, standing with Adrian. I ran to them immediately. I hugged them tightly. “Mom told you to stay in the car, you made me so worried.” “Oh, I was the one who took them,” Adrian said. “Boys, follow Daniel to the car. I want to talk to Adrian alone,” I said to them. They nodded, and they trailed behind Daniel. I waited until they were out of sight. “What ga

Camille’s POV“Is this where Dad used to bring you before we were born?” Julian asked in the middle of the meal.I paused. I was taken aback by the question. I didn’t even know how to respond to him. These kids will put me in trouble one day.Truth is, Marcus and I used to come here early in our marriage when he was still acting like a sensible human.Royal Dinner was one of my favorite restaurants then. Their customer service is top notch and their food is so good.I took the kids here because they are one of the restaurants that allow kids.If I should answer Julian’s question honestly, it would lead to another question that I won’t expect. But I have to tell them the truth.“Yes,” I said and continued eating.“But mom, where is dad?” Julian asked again.I looked at him. He is still a baby. There’s no need to be harsh on him.“He left to a place far away,” I answered. That was the only answer I could give them now at their level.“When will he be back?” Vincent asked.“Okay boys, wh

Chapter Title: Shadows of the Past Camille’s POV “People do have doppelgängers,” Leon said. I remained quiet and composed. Inside, my pulse was rising, but I kept calm. “You look more beautiful, more confident, and bolder than her,” Leon continued. “How would you know if she was bold or not?” I asked. “It was just a picture.” “There is something about a person’s aura. You can sense it even in pictures.” He was right. Camille was intelligent, but she was not bold or confident. Marcus had been her backbone. But Veronica was different. She had audacity. She had boldness. If you want to get what you want in life, you have to be both. “So tell me about this Camille you think I look like. Who is she to you?” I asked. “She is Marcus’s ex wife. Apparently, there was a scandal, and they divorced. Since then, no one knows whether she is alive or dead. She is probably dead.” Yes. She is dead. The soft, calm, and innocent Camille is gone. She had to die for Veroni

Obviously, she did not know we had met before.“I was in a hurry, so I left before midnight. I did not have the chance to say goodbye,” I said to Leon.“I am glad I found you after so many days of searching. I would love to have your contact so it will be easier to reach you.”I handed him my complimentary card.“I see you two have met,” Eliana said.“Yes. We met at the masquerade ball, the same night I met you,” I said. “You both have history.”“Yes, we do. We went to the same college in Loresco. We were dating until she broke up with me and came back to Valmont,” Leon said.“I was grieving my mom, and you were not there when I needed you most,” Eliana said.“I was go
