SCARLETT

“Tell me now, what the heck is going on here?” my father yelled, his voice shaking the entire room. I flinched, trembling under his intense glare. My mind went blank, my heart pounding so loudly I could barely hear anything else.

I didn’t know where to start. I didn’t even know what to say. How could I explain this mess without making it worse? I was frozen, staring at the floor, hoping it would somehow swallow me whole.

And then, out of nowhere, someone spoke.

“She was actually with me,” came the calm, composed voice I least wanted to hear right now. My head snapped up, and my stomach twisted into knots. Standing at the door, with a smug expression plastered on his face, was Vincent—my father’s trusted business partner and the man he had been pushing me to marry.

My father’s expression immediately softened. His face lit up with relief, and for a moment, I almost thought I imagined it.

“Oh, so it was you in the picture!” my father exclaimed, glancing between Vincent and the photo on his phone. He smiled broadly, as though all the tension had just melted away. “Well, that makes sense. You two look great together.”

No. No, no, no. I wanted to scream. I wasn’t with Vincent in that picture—I was with Zayden. But they looked so similar from certain angles, and in the dim lighting of the club, it must have been easy to mistake one for the other. I think it's for the best. I can't let my father know that I had a one night stand with Zayden, his best friend.

Vincent didn’t bother correcting him. Instead, he smiled coolly and stepped further inside, like he owned the place.

“Yes, sir. Scarlett was with me,” he said smoothly. “We had a wonderful time last night.” He threw me a sly wink that made my skin crawl.

I glanced at Zayden, who was standing near the window, his face unreadable. His jaw was clenched, and his fists were curled tightly at his sides. Was he angry? Upset? I couldn’t tell. He wouldn’t even look at me.

“Well, Scarlett,” my father said, turning to me with a wide grin, “why didn’t you tell me you were spending time with Vincent? I would’ve been overjoyed!”

I swallowed hard, my throat dry. “I… I didn’t think it was important.”

“Not important?” My dad laughed. “This is wonderful news! It means the wedding can happen sooner than we planned.”

Wedding? What wedding? My heart stopped.

Vincent chuckled softly, a dark glint in his eyes. “Yes, sir. Scarlett and I have been getting to know each other better, and I think things are moving in the right direction.”

What the heck was happening? This wasn’t real. This couldn’t be real.

I opened my mouth to protest, but my father cut me off. “I’m so proud of you, Scarlett. This is exactly what I wanted for you. Vincent is a good man. He’ll take care of you.”

I felt like I was drowning. My mind was spinning, and I couldn’t think straight. I glanced at Zayden again, silently begging him to say something, to stop this madness, but he just stared out the window, his expression cold and distant.

Before I could say anything, the doorbell rang.

“I’ll get it,” I mumbled, desperate for a moment to clear my head.

I opened the door and froze. Standing there were two men in dark suits, their faces grim and serious.

“Scarlett Evans?” one of them asked.

“Yes,” I said hesitantly.

“We’re here on official business. We need to speak with your father.”

I blinked in confusion, stepping aside to let them in. My father’s smile vanished the moment he saw them.

“What’s going on?” he demanded.

One of the men stepped forward, holding up a badge. “Mr. Evans, we’re here to inform you that you’re under investigation for embezzlement and financial fraud.”

My father’s face turned pale. “What? That’s ridiculous! I haven’t done anything wrong!”

“We have evidence suggesting otherwise,” the man said grimly. “We’ll need you to come with us for questioning.”

“No!” I cried, stepping between them. “There must be some mistake!”

“I’m afraid there’s no mistake, Miss Evans,” the man said. And before I knew it, they had handcuffed my father and were leading him out the door.

Tears streamed down my face as I watched them take him away. My entire world was falling apart, and I had no idea how to fix it.

"This can't be true. My father didn't do this! Stop! Don’t take him away!" I screamed, my voice cracking as tears streamed down my face. I lunged forward, but two officers held me back, their expressions grim and unyielding. No matter how hard I struggled, they wouldn’t let me go after him. I watched helplessly as they dragged my father out of the house in handcuffs. His face was pale, his eyes hollow, and he didn’t look back at me.

The door slammed shut behind them, and the silence that followed was deafening.

Days passed in a blur. I barely moved from my room. I ignored my friends' texts, refused their calls, and shut out the world. I didn’t want to talk to anyone. What was there to say? My life was falling apart, crumbling like sand slipping through my fingers, and I was powerless to stop it.

Every time I closed my eyes, I saw my father’s face—haunted, broken—and the image stabbed at my heart like a knife.

Then, one morning, everything got worse.

It was a quiet day. Too quiet. I was sitting on the front steps, staring at nothing in particular, when a black car pulled up in front of the house. Three men in suits stepped out, their faces cold and indifferent.

"Are you Scarlett?" one of them asked.

I nodded, my throat dry. Something about them made my skin crawl.

“We’re here to inform you that, as per court orders, this house is being seized due to your father’s conviction. You need to vacate the premises immediately.”

"What?" I blinked, my mind struggling to process their words. "No, this is my home. You can’t just—"

"Your father has been found guilty," the man interrupted, his voice flat and emotionless. "Everything he owns, including this property, now belongs to the state. You have until the end of the day to gather your belongings and leave."

They didn’t wait for me to respond. Instead, they turned and began placing locks on the front door. I watched in stunned silence, my body frozen in place.

"No," I whispered, shaking my head. "No, no, no. This can’t be happening."

But it was.

I begged them, pleaded with everything I had, but they ignored me, acting as though I didn’t exist. When they were done, they drove away without another word, leaving me standing on the front lawn, staring at the house I had grown up in—now locked and off-limits.

For a moment, I just stood there, numb. Then the weight of everything hit me all at once, and my knees buckled beneath me. I was falling, spiraling into the abyss of despair.

But before I hit the ground, strong arms wrapped around me, catching me.

I gasped, looking up, and my heart skipped a beat.

“Hey, it’s going to be okay,” he said softly, helping me stand up properly.

“No, it’s not,” I whispered, wiping my tears. “I’ve lost everything. My dad is in jail, and I have nothing left.”

Zayden hesitated for a moment, then took a deep breath. “You can stay with me,” he said quietly.

I looked up at him, shocked. “What?”

“You can stay at my place,” he repeated. “I’m your dad’s best friend, and I promised him I’d look out for you. I can’t let you live on the streets, Scarlett.”

I stared at him, my heart racing. Was this really happening?

Zayden’s jaw tightened. “You’re coming with me.”

I bit my lip, trying to hide my smile. This was my chance. My chance to make Zayden fall for me.

And I wasn’t going to waste it.

  • IN LOVE WITH MY FATHER'S BILLIONAIRE BEST FRIEND    THE TRUTH HURTS

SCARLETT I stared at myself in the mirror. The dim yellow light above buzzed softly, casting a warm glow over my bare skin. I looked different. Tired. Broken. My eyes weren’t the same—they carried too much now. Pain. Regret. Fear. And maybe something else I didn’t want to name. The tightening procedure had been done. God, it hurt. It wasn’t what I expected. I cried the whole night after it. It made me feel like I had damaged myself just to protect a lie. But I told myself it was worth it. It had to be.I had picked out the sexiest dress I could find—tight red silk, backless, with a thigh slit so high it nearly reached my hip. My hair was curled soft and loose, falling around my shoulders like waves. Lipstick bold. Perfume strong. Everything screaming I'm ready.I stepped out of the bathroom and called out, “Vicent, I’m ready.”He turned. His eyes widened the second he saw me.“What… what are you wearing?” he asked, almost breathless.I smiled, pretending to be confident, even though

  • IN LOVE WITH MY FATHER'S BILLIONAIRE BEST FRIEND    WHAT NOW?

SCARLETT My hands trembled as I stared at the white bedsheet in the hospital room. Pregnant. That word kept ringing in my ears like an alarm I couldn’t shut off. My heartbeat was too loud, my skin was too hot. I could still hear the doctor’s voice in my head, cheerful and clueless. Congratulations, ma’am.What was there to congratulate? This wasn’t a miracle. It was a disaster. The door closed softly. Zayden and I were alone again. I didn’t even look at him. I just kept staring down like the answer was written somewhere in the folds of the sheet. But of course, it wasn’t.Then I heard his voice—cold, sharp.“We can’t let this get out. Nobody can know this child is mine.”My stomach clenched.“What do we do now?” I whispered, finally turning to face him. “I’m pregnant. We have to do something. Say something. Plan something—anything!”Zayden stood, walked toward the window, and dragged a hand down his face. “You have to abort it,” he said flatly. My heart stopped.“What?” My voice crac

SCARLETT I stared at the door after he left, still breathing heavy, my body shaking from what we just did. My lips were swollen, my dress was halfway off, and my heart? God, my heart was in pieces. What did he just say? This can’t happen again. He said that last time too. And the time before that. But it kept happening. Over and over. I won't be able to get him.It was like he had a hold on me—Zayden. Not Vincent. Not my husband. My husband’s father. The one man I wasn’t supposed to want. The one man I couldn’t stop wanting. It didn’t even take a full day before we were at it again. I still remember that morning like it just happened. I went to give him his coffee. Simple. Normal. But

  • IN LOVE WITH MY FATHER'S BILLIONAIRE BEST FRIEND    WE CAN'T DO THIS ANYMORE

SCARLETT I froze like someone poured ice water down my back. My chest felt tight, my hands were shaking, and I couldn’t even form a single word. Vincent was staring at me like he didn’t know me anymore, like I was some stranger in his world.“Divorce me?” he shouted again, his voice breaking through the silence like thunder. “What the heck is going on?! Are you two… are you having an affair or something?!”My throat felt dry. I couldn’t breathe, but I had to say something—anything.“No! No way!” I shouted quickly, holding my hands up like I needed to defend myself. “What?! An affair?! How can I even do that? He’s my father-in-law! Vincent, he’s older than me, way older. This doesn’t even make sense!”I was panicking. My heart was jumping. The room felt smaller and tighter with every passing second. I kept talking fast, like if I stopped, everything would collapse around me.“We’re not doing anything! We were just… talking. That’s all. You understand, right? Please, you have to believ

Chapter 15 - SCARLETT'S POV“What did I just see?” Vincent's voice thundered, making me shrink.I didn’t even know how to explain what had just happened. My mind was too foggy to make sense of the reality of it all. I’d only just been trying to wake him up, to make sure he was still with me, still alive. But somehow, there it was—a kiss. A stupid, unplanned kiss that felt wrong, but in that moment, it felt like I couldn’t stop it. I couldn’t pull away, couldn’t go back.Vincent’s eyes narrowed, and for a moment, I felt a rush of panic. Was he going to say something? Was he going to accuse me? Was this the moment he realized I wasn’t just his wife anymore, that I was tangled up in something I couldn’t untangle?I stammered. “I was just—just doing what the doctor said. He needed… air. To breathe better.” The words were flimsy, desperate, but I had to make him believe it. My own voice didn’t even sound like mine. I hated how weak I sounded, how shaky my words were.Vincent blinked, and f

  • IN LOVE WITH MY FATHER'S BILLIONAIRE BEST FRIEND    NO, NOT NOW.

Chapter 14 - SCARLETT'S POVMy eyes opened slowly. And I felt my heart pound in my chest. Everything was happening so fast, I couldn’t even process it. One moment, I was standing there, about to get hit by a car. And then… nothing. The world around me blurred, and everything felt like a bad dream. My legs turned to jelly, and I collapsed to my knees, my hands shaking uncontrollably as I looked down.Zayden was lying there, blood pooling beneath him, his body twisted in an unnatural way. I froze. My breath caught in my throat. He was pale, his face drenched in sweat, and the blood—it was everywhere.I screamed.“Help! Help! Someone, please!”My voice was raw and shaky, like it didn’t even belong to me. I stumbled forward, my feet moving without thought, trying to get closer to him. My hands trembled as I reached for his body. It was like a nightmare, one I couldn’t wake up from. His skin was so cold, and the blood... the blood was too much. It made everything feel too real, too heavy.

  • IN LOVE WITH MY FATHER'S BILLIONAIRE BEST FRIEND    LET GO OF ME!

SCARLETTThe moment the door shut behind me, the weight in my chest exploded into full-blown panic. My heart thundered wildly as if trying to escape my ribcage. My breath hitched, uneven and broken, and my hands trembled as I clawed at the closet door. My vision was still blurred from tears, but I didn't care what I wore—I just needed to see her. Emily. The name echoed in my skull like a cruel taunt.Emily—the woman who had once meant everything to Zayden. The woman Vincent called "Mom."My fingers closed around a soft sweater, and I tugged it on without looking. The fabric clung awkwardly to my damp skin. My reflection in the mirror caught my eye for a second—my cheeks blotchy, eyes swollen, hair tangled and wild. I looked like a ghost of myself. But none of it mattered now. I had to see her. I had to know if what I feared was true.I burst out of the room, my bare feet padding hard against the hallway tiles. The air felt thick and heavy, and my stomach churned violently. My legs bar

SCARLETT His eyes darted to mine, fear flickering in them like a dying candle. My pulse hammered against my ribs. This was it. This was the moment I would find out the truth. My father’s fate depended on his next words."Speak now," I said, my voice barely above a whisper but filled with fire. "Were you the one who framed my dad?"Zayden's lips parted, but for a second, nothing came out. Then he shook his head, his brows knitting together. "How could you even think that, Scarlett? Your father and I built that company from the ground up. We were best friends! There’s no way I’d frame him for something like that."I scoffed. "And yet, you’re the CEO now that he’s gone. Convenient, isn’t it?" My hands curled into fists at my sides, nails biting into my palm. "You keep saying you’re doing everything to help him, but where is the progress? Why is he still rotting in that prison?"His gaze darkened. "I’m trying, Scarlett. You have to believe me.""Believe you?" A bitter laugh bubbled up my
