SCARLETT

“What do you mean?” I asked, my voice shaking as I stared at Vincent. My throat felt dry, and my mind scrambled to understand what he had just said. “Don’t tell me you’re serious.”

Vincent leaned back on the couch, a smug smirk playing on his lips. His dark eyes sparkled with amusement, like he was enjoying every second of my confusion.

“Oh, I’m serious,” he said, his tone dripping with arrogance.

I shook my head, my heart pounding wildly in my chest. I had known Zayden since I was little. I’d seen him grow into the cold, distant man he was today, but never had I once imagined that he had a son. Zayden had never been in a relationship, never brought home any woman, never shown the slightest interest in romance. Maybe that was part of what had drawn me to him all these years.

“What do you mean Zayden is your father?” I repeated, my voice sharper this time.

Before Vincent could answer, I heard footsteps behind me. I turned just as Zayden stepped into the room. His face was unreadable, his jaw tight, but there was something in his eyes—something that made my stomach twist.

“He’s right,” Zayden said quietly. “Vincent is my son. I just found out recently.”

My world tilted. I felt like the ground had been ripped out from under me.

“What?” I whispered, barely able to process what he’d just said. “And you want me to marry him after—”

Before I could finish my sentence, Zayden crossed the room in three long strides, grabbed my arm, and pulled me toward the stairs.

“Come with me,” he said through gritted teeth, dragging me behind him.

“Wait—Zayden!” I protested, but he didn’t stop. He pulled me up the stairs, down the hall, and into his room, slamming the door shut behind us.

“What are you doing?” I demanded, yanking my arm out of his grip. “You can’t just drag me around like that!”

“What were you going to do?” he snapped, his eyes blazing with anger. “Were you planning to tell him? Were you going to spill that we slept together?”

I blinked, stunned by his outburst.

“What the heck are you thinking, Scarlett?” he continued, pacing the room like a caged lion. “Don’t you get it? I’m way older than you. I’m old enough to be your father. We can’t have anything to do with each other.”

My chest tightened at his words.

“You want to know why I want you to marry Vincent?” he asked, his voice cold. “Because he’s your mate. He’s young, fresh, and exactly what you need. If you care about your father’s legacy—if you want to clear his name—you’ll marry him.”

I stared at him, my heart pounding. “What are you saying?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

“I’m saying this is the only way,” he said, his eyes hard. “If you want to save your family, you’ll have to marry my son.”

“But I don’t want him,” I said, my voice trembling. “I want you.”

His jaw tightened, and for a moment, I thought I saw something flicker in his eyes—something raw and painful. But then it was gone, replaced by the same cold mask he always wore.

“Well, you can’t have me,” he said flatly. “I don’t care about you. I don’t care about anyone.”

His words cut me like a knife, but I refused to let him see how much they hurt.

“Fine,” I said, lifting my chin defiantly. “If you don’t care about me, then I’ll marry Vincent. I’ll marry him and I won’t care about you either.”

He stared at me for a long moment, his expression unreadable.

“Is that all?” he asked, his voice low and dangerous.

“No,” I said, taking a step closer. “I have a condition. If I marry Vincent, we’re staying here. In this house.”

He didn’t respond right away. He just looked at me, his eyes dark and unreadable. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, he nodded.

“Deal,” he said quietly.

“Deal,” I repeated, my heart racing.

Without another word, I turned and left the room, slamming the door behind me.

When I got back to the living room, Vincent was still sitting on the couch, looking smug as ever.

“I’ll do it,” I said, forcing a smile. “I’ll marry you.”

His eyes lit up, and he jumped to his feet, pulling me into a tight hug.

“You won’t regret this, Scarlett,” he said, his voice warm and excited.

I didn’t hug him back. I couldn’t. My heart felt like it was breaking, but I pushed the pain aside. This was what I had to do.

The wedding came quickly—too quickly. Before I knew it, I was standing at the altar, dressed in white, saying “I do” to a man I didn’t love.

As I slipped the ring onto Vincent’s finger, my eyes drifted to the back of the room—and there he was. Zayden. Sitting alone, watching me with an intensity that made my heart ache.

His eyes were dark, burning with an emotion I couldn’t name. Was it anger? Jealousy? Regret? I didn’t know.

“You may kiss your bride,” the pastor said.

Before Vincent could make a move, I leaned in and kissed him—long, deep, and passionate.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Zayden’s jaw tighten, his fists clench at his sides. Then, without a word, he stood up and walked out, his shoulders stiff, his whole body radiating fury.

I pulled back from the kiss, my heart pounding wildly.

“I now pronounce you husband and wife,” the pastor declared with a warm smile. But while everyone else seemed happy, I wasn’t. My emotions were a tangled mess—part sadness, part joy, and a whole lot of confusion.

The reception had begun, music filling the air, and people were laughing, dancing, and toasting to our future. But my eyes kept wandering, searching for him.

Where is Zayden? I wondered, my heart racing as I scanned the crowded room.

Then I saw him—standing alone down the hallway, disappearing into one of the side rooms. Without thinking, I followed. My heels clicked softly against the marble floor as I made my way toward the room. I pushed the door open cautiously, stepping inside.

Before I could say a word, Zayden turned sharply, slammed the door shut behind me, and pressed me up against it. His hand slid around my neck—not to hurt me, but to hold me in place—and then his lips crashed down on mine in a rough, hungry kiss.

My mind went blank.

“What are you doing?” I gasped when he finally pulled back, both of us breathing heavily.

His eyes burned with frustration, pain, and something deeper. Something I wasn’t ready to name.

“I can’t do this,” he said hoarsely, his voice breaking slightly. “I can’t watch you with him. I want you, Scarlett. I think I’m in—”

The words caught in his throat, unfinished, but the look in his eyes said it all.

  • IN LOVE WITH MY FATHER'S BILLIONAIRE BEST FRIEND    THE TRUTH HURTS

SCARLETT I stared at myself in the mirror. The dim yellow light above buzzed softly, casting a warm glow over my bare skin. I looked different. Tired. Broken. My eyes weren’t the same—they carried too much now. Pain. Regret. Fear. And maybe something else I didn’t want to name. The tightening procedure had been done. God, it hurt. It wasn’t what I expected. I cried the whole night after it. It made me feel like I had damaged myself just to protect a lie. But I told myself it was worth it. It had to be.I had picked out the sexiest dress I could find—tight red silk, backless, with a thigh slit so high it nearly reached my hip. My hair was curled soft and loose, falling around my shoulders like waves. Lipstick bold. Perfume strong. Everything screaming I'm ready.I stepped out of the bathroom and called out, “Vicent, I’m ready.”He turned. His eyes widened the second he saw me.“What… what are you wearing?” he asked, almost breathless.I smiled, pretending to be confident, even though

  • IN LOVE WITH MY FATHER'S BILLIONAIRE BEST FRIEND    WHAT NOW?

SCARLETT My hands trembled as I stared at the white bedsheet in the hospital room. Pregnant. That word kept ringing in my ears like an alarm I couldn’t shut off. My heartbeat was too loud, my skin was too hot. I could still hear the doctor’s voice in my head, cheerful and clueless. Congratulations, ma’am.What was there to congratulate? This wasn’t a miracle. It was a disaster. The door closed softly. Zayden and I were alone again. I didn’t even look at him. I just kept staring down like the answer was written somewhere in the folds of the sheet. But of course, it wasn’t.Then I heard his voice—cold, sharp.“We can’t let this get out. Nobody can know this child is mine.”My stomach clenched.“What do we do now?” I whispered, finally turning to face him. “I’m pregnant. We have to do something. Say something. Plan something—anything!”Zayden stood, walked toward the window, and dragged a hand down his face. “You have to abort it,” he said flatly. My heart stopped.“What?” My voice crac

  • IN LOVE WITH MY FATHER'S BILLIONAIRE BEST FRIEND    PREGNANT

SCARLETT I stared at the door after he left, still breathing heavy, my body shaking from what we just did. My lips were swollen, my dress was halfway off, and my heart? God, my heart was in pieces. What did he just say? This can’t happen again. He said that last time too. And the time before that. But it kept happening. Over and over. Like we were stuck in a loop we didn’t want to get out of.And I didn’t want to. Not even a little bit. I liked the way he is. His everything that I gradually forgot what my dad's former Secretary told me about him. I'll take care of my dad. But for now. I'll go after my heart. If my dad comes out now. I won't be able to get him.It was like he had a hold on me—Zayden. Not Vincent. Not my husband. My husband’s father. The one man I wasn’t supposed to want. The one man I couldn’t stop wanting. It didn’t even take a full day before we were at it again. I still remember that morning like it just happened. I went to give him his coffee. Simple. Normal. But

  • IN LOVE WITH MY FATHER'S BILLIONAIRE BEST FRIEND    I SHOULDN'T WANT YOU

ZAYDENI thought that keeping my distance would somehow extinguish the forbidden flames that had been quietly ignited the moment Scarlett stepped into my life. She was my best friend’s daughter—someone I’d always regarded as family. I watched her grow up, protected her like my own. But as the years passed and she blossomed into a woman, something shifted. Unsettling feelings surfaced—feelings I buried deep beneath layers of guilt and logic, convincing myself they were nothing more than fleeting confusion.Pushing her toward Vincent, my son, felt like the only way to keep myself in check. If she belonged to him, I could let go. I could pretend. But fate clearly had other plans, cruel and twisted in the way it worked—placing her back in my life, in my space, and far too close for comfort. Now, with Scrateltt working as my secretary, each day became a battle I never signed up for. Her presence was intoxicating—her scent clung to the air long after she left the room, a constant reminder

  • IN LOVE WITH MY FATHER'S BILLIONAIRE BEST FRIEND    WE CAN'T DO THIS ANYMORE

SCARLETT I froze like someone poured ice water down my back. My chest felt tight, my hands were shaking, and I couldn’t even form a single word. Vincent was staring at me like he didn’t know me anymore, like I was some stranger in his world.“Divorce me?” he shouted again, his voice breaking through the silence like thunder. “What the heck is going on?! Are you two… are you having an affair or something?!”My throat felt dry. I couldn’t breathe, but I had to say something—anything.“No! No way!” I shouted quickly, holding my hands up like I needed to defend myself. “What?! An affair?! How can I even do that? He’s my father-in-law! Vincent, he’s older than me, way older. This doesn’t even make sense!”I was panicking. My heart was jumping. The room felt smaller and tighter with every passing second. I kept talking fast, like if I stopped, everything would collapse around me.“We’re not doing anything! We were just… talking. That’s all. You understand, right? Please, you have to believ

  • IN LOVE WITH MY FATHER'S BILLIONAIRE BEST FRIEND    Matters Arising

Chapter 15 - SCARLETT'S POV“What did I just see?” Vincent's voice thundered, making me shrink.I didn’t even know how to explain what had just happened. My mind was too foggy to make sense of the reality of it all. I’d only just been trying to wake him up, to make sure he was still with me, still alive. But somehow, there it was—a kiss. A stupid, unplanned kiss that felt wrong, but in that moment, it felt like I couldn’t stop it. I couldn’t pull away, couldn’t go back.Vincent’s eyes narrowed, and for a moment, I felt a rush of panic. Was he going to say something? Was he going to accuse me? Was this the moment he realized I wasn’t just his wife anymore, that I was tangled up in something I couldn’t untangle?I stammered. “I was just—just doing what the doctor said. He needed… air. To breathe better.” The words were flimsy, desperate, but I had to make him believe it. My own voice didn’t even sound like mine. I hated how weak I sounded, how shaky my words were.Vincent blinked, and f

  • IN LOVE WITH MY FATHER'S BILLIONAIRE BEST FRIEND    NO, NOT NOW.

Chapter 14 - SCARLETT'S POVMy eyes opened slowly. And I felt my heart pound in my chest. Everything was happening so fast, I couldn’t even process it. One moment, I was standing there, about to get hit by a car. And then… nothing. The world around me blurred, and everything felt like a bad dream. My legs turned to jelly, and I collapsed to my knees, my hands shaking uncontrollably as I looked down.Zayden was lying there, blood pooling beneath him, his body twisted in an unnatural way. I froze. My breath caught in my throat. He was pale, his face drenched in sweat, and the blood—it was everywhere.I screamed.“Help! Help! Someone, please!”My voice was raw and shaky, like it didn’t even belong to me. I stumbled forward, my feet moving without thought, trying to get closer to him. My hands trembled as I reached for his body. It was like a nightmare, one I couldn’t wake up from. His skin was so cold, and the blood... the blood was too much. It made everything feel too real, too heavy.

  • IN LOVE WITH MY FATHER'S BILLIONAIRE BEST FRIEND    LET GO OF ME!

SCARLETTThe moment the door shut behind me, the weight in my chest exploded into full-blown panic. My heart thundered wildly as if trying to escape my ribcage. My breath hitched, uneven and broken, and my hands trembled as I clawed at the closet door. My vision was still blurred from tears, but I didn't care what I wore—I just needed to see her. Emily. The name echoed in my skull like a cruel taunt.Emily—the woman who had once meant everything to Zayden. The woman Vincent called "Mom."My fingers closed around a soft sweater, and I tugged it on without looking. The fabric clung awkwardly to my damp skin. My reflection in the mirror caught my eye for a second—my cheeks blotchy, eyes swollen, hair tangled and wild. I looked like a ghost of myself. But none of it mattered now. I had to see her. I had to know if what I feared was true.I burst out of the room, my bare feet padding hard against the hallway tiles. The air felt thick and heavy, and my stomach churned violently. My legs bar

  • IN LOVE WITH MY FATHER'S BILLIONAIRE BEST FRIEND    EMILY IS BACK!

SCARLETT His eyes darted to mine, fear flickering in them like a dying candle. My pulse hammered against my ribs. This was it. This was the moment I would find out the truth. My father’s fate depended on his next words."Speak now," I said, my voice barely above a whisper but filled with fire. "Were you the one who framed my dad?"Zayden's lips parted, but for a second, nothing came out. Then he shook his head, his brows knitting together. "How could you even think that, Scarlett? Your father and I built that company from the ground up. We were best friends! There’s no way I’d frame him for something like that."I scoffed. "And yet, you’re the CEO now that he’s gone. Convenient, isn’t it?" My hands curled into fists at my sides, nails biting into my palm. "You keep saying you’re doing everything to help him, but where is the progress? Why is he still rotting in that prison?"His gaze darkened. "I’m trying, Scarlett. You have to believe me.""Believe you?" A bitter laugh bubbled up my
