CHAPTER TWO

They were twenty in number with their bag of clothes, Mma sigh in tiredness as they stood waiting for the arrival of the headmaid. She knew the task ahead might not be that easy but she was happy and proud of herself for finally putting a smile on her mother face when she revealed her success to her.

"I'm very happy for you my daughter, at last I can rest in peace knowing fully well that you will be comfortable where you are. Remember all I thought you, always do your chores deligently and never contribute to any form of social vices" her mother adviced as she nodded obediently.

"I'm sorry for keeping you guys waiting, follow me" the voice of the headmaid interrupted her thoughts as the maidens stood up and followed her.

Mma opened her mouth in awe at the sight that met her inside the palace, the surprised look of the maidens also explained their amazement.

"God this is heaven on Earth" Adaure whispered to Mma who nodded while taking notice of the extravagant sight before them.

     Mma's POV,

The sight I met inside the palace was unimaginable, for a seconds I felt like I was already in heaven, the walls glitters and I almost saw my reflection on all corner of the building. The head maid walked majestically towards a long passage as we tagged along her, she finally entered a hall where other maids and guards were having a meeting.

"Listen everyone" she shouted as she sat down on one of the empty seat.

The maids and guards stopped their chattering and focused on us, we felt like ants under their gaze.

"These are the new maids the king told us about" the headmaid said.

I counted the servants present and they were almost thirty plus the twenty of us who were still new to the environment.

"So much servants in one palace" I said to myself as I felt Adaure hands touched mine.

There were chefs, cleaners, royal drivers and gardeners as they respectively introduced themselves, the name was much that I found it hard to remember their names.

"Your room numbers will be given to you all and other things will be explained to you as time goes on but for now you need to know that your works starts from 5am everyday except on Sundays which are free days" the head maid said we all nodded.

"Maid Janet" she called as one of the maid stood up. 

"Yes ma" Janet, a fair tall maiden answered.

"You have to show them around the palace once they are done settling down, hope you heard me?" The head maid asked.

"Yes ma" Janet replied as she gently walked towards the exit of the hall.

"Follow her" the head maid said as we followed the maid.

The palace was a sight to behold as the maid showed us around, I looked around trying to recall the names of the gadgets we passed earlier on, those gadgets were foreign to us all.

"There is a house over there, I wonder why it seems odd from all the houses here" one of the new maid whom I'm yet to know her name said as the maid who was showing us around smiled revealing her deep dimple.

"That house over there belongs to the late queen, that is where she always stays whenever she starts her work of art, I heard the late queen was a great artist before she passed away, since she died, the room has been locked up by the king and no one is allowed to enter inside the room since then" she explained as I stared at the room wondering how the inside might be.

"Wow I like the feel of this" Kate one of my roommate said as she jumped on her bed.

I gently rubbed my palms on the bed savouring the feel of it, It was my first time touching a bed and also having such luxury of my own. We were four maidens in our room and the room was nicely equipped and a bathroom, toilet and kitchen was attached to the room.

"This is a whole new life and I hope to enjoy to the fullest" I said within myself as I gently lied down on my bed.
