New Air Freshener

“Doc, we have an injured she-wolf from Everest Pack coming in. She has  fractured ribs, a long gash on her right arm, and she’s unconscious. We are suspecting wolfsbane is present in her wounds. Her mate is bringing her in as we speak,” Theo the assistant pack doctor came rushing in at Irene’s office.

She gasped, her eyes twinkling at the timely situation and swirled the vial containing her neon blue newly formulated medicine. She has recently formulated a new antidote for wolfsbane. Of course, it wasn’t tested on wolves yet. She just had to convince the new patient or her mate to allow her to use her new formula on the patient.

She rushed out of her office and went to the Emergency Room with Theo but her steps faltered as whiffs of something that smell so heavenly attacked her nose.

“Oh wow. Our new air freshener smells so good!” she told Theo which the latter replied with a puzzled look.

“Oh my goddess. Who is that fine specimen over there?” she whispered just enough for Theo to hear.

“That’s Alpha Hunter, Doc. Our patient’s mate?” he answered in duh tone. Irene pouted, disappointed that the gorgeous looking wolf is taken.

She rolled her shoulders and approached the Alpha.

“Alpha Hunter? I’m Irene, the pack doctor. Is it alright if I discuss something regarding your mate with you?” Irene started.

‘Mate! Mate! Mate’ Lunox, her wolf chanted in her mind. She whimpered as she realizes her fated mate has chosen someone else to declare as his mate.

Irene’s eyes widened as realization hit her.

Alpha Hunter stared at her and blinked. His lips fell open at the beauty talking to him.

Irene cleared her throat and gave him a shaky polite smile.

“Right. What is it?” he asked, blinking away the haze he found himself in.

“So… I have here a newly formulated antidote for wolfsbane. This one works faster that the current one we are using. It wasn’t tested yet on anyone but rest assured that the raw ingredients to this formula is safe for us. I will demo this on myself if that gives you assurance but would you allow me to administer this on your uh… m-mate?” she stuttered, showed him the neon blue liquid which earned a growl from Alpha Hunter.

She immediately took her shaking hand back.

“Yvette is in a critical condition on the hospital bed and you want to try an experiment on her?” he raised his brow at her in disbelief.  A web of unpleasant tingles spread on her fingers. He must be really concerned about this…Yvette.

“What is there to lose, Alpha? She has been poisoned by wolfsbane and we have a stronger antidote at hand. This will not worsen her condition. Delaying her treatment will,” Irene snapped because she wasn’t used to someone disagreeing with her, and them evading the fact that they are mates is starting to piss her wolf.

“Fine. Give it to her but if her condition worsens, I’ll have you rotting in my pack cells,” he threatened with his alpha voice.

“I’d like to see you try,” Irene scoffed, turning her back on him to give the antidote to his chosen mate.

“Status?” Irene asked the nurses as she entered the room.

“H-hi Doc, so this is Yvette Gunner. She’s a warrior from Everest Pack. She got injured in a rogue attack when she was patrolling at the borders with our men. She has minor injuries for a werewolf but she lost consciousness due to wolfsbane, according to her lab results which came in just now,” a young male nurse showed Yvette's lab results who was blushing whenever Irene glances at him.

“What are you giving her?” she nodded and motioned at the hep-lock attached to Yvette’s wrist.

Irene is holding in her anger towards her mate and this lady. She is still the pack doctor regardless of the situation she’s in.

“The… the Wolfsbane Nullifier Doc,” the same nurse answered.

“When you’re inside the Emergency or Operating Room, there must be no space for intimidation, do you understand? Focus. Now, I need a syringe and someone has to take the WolfsNull from her hep-lock. I will administer something else,” she instructed in a clear voice and everyone in the area moved into motion.

She brought out a small vial containing a glowing blue liquid and everyone stared in wonder and doubt.

“This is a newly formulated wolfsbane antidote. It has stronger countering abilities than WolfsNull,” she explained as she prepared the antidote.

“Wow, you had the alpha to agree with you. That’s an untested drug,” Theo mused and everyone else paled upon hearing him.

She gave him a wink and proceeded to inject the drug on Yvette who was still unconscious.

‘If she dies, then better,’ Lunox whispered in her mind.

“I can be a little persuasive, I guess,” she joked, ignoring Lunox.

They waited but not for long.

Colors started returning to Yvette’s face and body and sighs of relief can be heard from the other observers. Her wounds also started to heal on their own which is another effect of the drug.

“It worked!” Theo whispered in amazement and Irene gave him a smug look.

‘Ugh. Why did it have to work,’ Lunox rolled her eyes at the scene unfolding in front of Irene’s eyes.

“But the WolfsNull is also formulated by her…” a nurse from the far back muttered.

Yvette opened her eyes and looked at the bewildered faces around her.

“Hi, Yvette. I am Irene, the Doctor of this pack. You were unconscious when they brought you in almost an hour ago because of severe wolfsbane poisoning.”

Yvette’s eyes widened.  Large amounts of wolfsbane can be lethal to wolves and antidotes take days to cleanse the poison from their blood.

Irene wanted to roll her eyes at the lady. She’s a warrior! She looks awkward when she’s trying to act cute. Irene wanted to gag.

“She just gave you her newly formulated antidote for wolfsbane, Luna,” Theo informed Yvette and Irene bit her lip for forgetting that her patient is actually a luna. She looked for her mate’s mark on Yvette’s neck and didn’t find it. She smiled a little.

“Oh! Sorry, Luna. I forgot to address you properly. I got too excited with the drug,” Irene’s fingers flew to her lips to cover her small smile.

“You’re an alpha’s daughter, I presume?” Yvette smiled kindly at her.

“You could say that,” she cocked her head to the side. Her father is an alpha who’s at the Celestial Realm.

Irene had someone call Alpha Hunter who came inside with a nurse in a blink. She went to leave them as soon as she saw the alpha. She tends to forget how to breathe when she’s at his presence.

“That was fast. Thank you,” Alpha Hunter stopped in front of her, effectively stopping her from leaving. He glanced at the slender lady who looked perfect in her scrub suit and blinked away.  The mate pull is starting to work on him.

“It was nothing,” she shrugged. She glanced up at the alpha and felt tiny specs of a warm fuzzy feeling seeping at her chest. She immediately looked away when she found him staring at her.

The alpha nodded and offered his hand, “I apologize for threatening you earlier.”

“Irene Mooncrest at your service,” she shook his hand with a firm grip and felt sparks fly as they touched.

‘Ugh. Claim him now! What are you waiting for, Irene. I’d lose my mind if you won’t!’ Lunox nagged at her.

‘He has a chosen mate, okay?!’ Irene snapped back at her.

“Love?” a soft voice called out, snapping both Irene and Hunter back into reality.

Irene exhaled a shaky breath and waited for the Alpha’s reaction.

Alpha Hunter immediately went to Yvette without sparing Irene a glance.

Irene blinked back her tears and quietly went out of the room.

Yvette’s gaze lingered at the doctor.

She senses something off between the two.

‘Are they perhaps…’ her thoughts drifted off into something dreadful.

“How do you feel? You got me worried there,” Alpha Hunter moved to stand by Yvette’s bed.  Theo and the nurses dispersed, giving them privacy.

“My wounds are all healed. The doctor here is ahead of her league, love. Too bad we can’t hire her at our pack,” Yvette said trying to gauge a reaction from him.

He cleared his throat in discomfort at the mention of Irene. Yvette shifted at her bed uncomfortably.

“When are you cleared for discharge?” he asked, changing the topic.

“Oh, uhm. You can push the button over there and we’ll ask them,” she pointed to the blue switch installed at the wall.

A nurse informed them that Yvette can be discharged immediately, they only had to sign a few documents. The young nurse even called Yvette, ‘Luna’ which made her happier.

A loud thunderclap along with a harsh downpour of rain interrupted them. Their monitors blinked at the sudden surge of electricity.

“What made you mad this time?,” Theo muttered lowly as he went by the couple to check on Irene.
