LOGINâ NEW YORK; Frostborne Corporations.
All Brianna felt as she sat on that seat was how she had lost two opportunities in less than 2 hours due to bad decisions and clumsiness. Her eatery offer was probably gone, since she didn't resume as agreed and couldn't meet up her interview at Frostborne too.
âTrying to work is not a bad decisionâ she tried to comfort herself.
âMiss you're very late. If you're this late to an interview, how late would you be on your first day?â One of the HR team members asked her.
Brianna couldn't find any excuse.
What would she say? That she didn't check her mails before sleeping, or that she was supposed to resume somewhere else, or that she almost lost her phone, or that she bathed someone with her coffee?
Brianna saw it as a bad and unlucky day for her.
Could it be because I didn't pray before leaving the house? She thought.
She concluded both jobs weren't for her and stood up to leave when someone said something that caught her attention.
âInterview her,â a voice said.
âSir?â The interview asked
âI said interview her nowâ same voice added
âYes sirâ was the interviewer's reply.
At this point, Brianna could no longer hold the joy in her heart, so she turned to thank her saviour. His aura felt familiar, the voice too, but she was certain she had never seen the face before, she looked at his pants and shoes and they weren't that of the man she bathed in coffee earlier.
âOh! Thank Godâ she prayed silently.
â â â â
âFinally, why should we hire you?â That was the last question from the interviewer.
âUmm, because I need the job?â Brianna replied like she was asking a question. She didn't realize she just said her thoughts out loud to the hearing of her interviewer.
Oh no! What have I done? She beat herself up.
âWow! Because you need the job?â The interview repeated after her. Brianna bit her lip in embarrassment.
âI meant because I could do well since I really need the job. I mean I'll be trained on what to do yeah? I'll catch on fast and never let the company regret ever hiring meâ Brianna replied hastily.
Trying to wash off the impulsive answer she previously gave.
The interviewer nodded, âThat'll all, Ms. Cooper. Have a nice dayâ the interviewer said.
Brianna reluctantly stood up from the chair she sat on. âThank youâ she said in a low tone and grabbed her purse, dragging her feet out. Doesn't feel like she stands a chance to be picked out of the crowd that was there when she arrived.
âI think she gave a very realistic answer. Afterall, we all look for jobs because we need them to surviveâ one of the HR members said and every other one burst into laughter.
Brianna was not far gone, she heard their laughter and knew it was over for her.
The ride home was the longest she's ever had.

âHer interview is done,â Rowan informed Derek. âGet me her CVâ Derek said. Rowan narrowed his eyes. Why would Derek want her CV when there's a Human Resource department?
âYes, sir,â he replied anyway. Derek gave him a questioning look.
âWhat?!â Rowan asked with a smile. Derek just shook his head in reply. Rowan barely calls him sir, even at work but he just did.
âMaybe he's overthinking the poor girl's situationâ Derek thought and laughed inwardly.
Rowan called the HR department, âbring in the last interviewee's file to the CEOâs officeâ he said.
âI heard she didn't perform really well. There were many outstanding participantsâ Rowan said.
âMmâ Derek murmured in response.
Rowan shook his head in disbelief. His friend has never had anything to do with interviews or employees and now he's interested in a supposed part-time employee?
âStrangeâ he thought.
â â â â
Derek flipped the pages of Brianna's file. âBrianna Cooperâ was all he said before turning to the HR team member that stood before him.
âI want her employed. She's to resume tomorrow and just bring her to my officeâ he said.
âYes sirâ the lady before him replied, stretching to get the document from him. âI'll hold on to it. You're dismissedâ he said
She immediately hurried out of his office.
Staying around Derek felt like suffocation to many, due to his cold nature.

Riley was at the door by the time Brianna got home. âYou didn't call,â Brianna complained.
âI'm tired of your flimsy excuses,â Riley retorted. âAnd where are you coming back from dressed in such a hot dress?â Riley asked enthusiastically, smiling.
âIt wasn't a date, sillyâ Brianna defended before Riley got the wrong idea. âThen what was it?â Riley kept pestering as they both stepped into the room. âYou didn't tell me you'll be moving in today, so I didn't clear your spaceâ Brianna tried to dodge the conversation
âDon't do that. Don't. Do. That!â Riley warned with a daring smile. Brianna smiled weakly.
âI've had a very ugly day. Today wasn't my day, I guessâ Brianna said and fell on her bed, still putting on her red dress.
Riley didn't understand a thing, because it felt like she was speaking in parables. âGirl, speak English,â Riley said and Brianna laughed.
âI went for an interview. Actually, two interviewsâ she began. âAnd?â Riley chipped in impatiently.
âAnd I messed up bothâ Brianna announced and unintentionally burst into tears.
âAw. Come on, don't do thatâ Riley hugged her. âThey're many opportunities in New York as there are fishes in the water,â she continued. âToday might not be your day, but you have tomorrow, the day after tomorrow and so on. Cheer upâ Riley added.
âIt's Frostborne,â Brianna announced between sobs. Riley instantly broke their hug, âWhat?!!!â Riley screamed. âFrostborne? How? Was there an opening?â She asked all at once. Brianna nodded. âPart time,â she added.
âOh my! Come hereâ Riley hugged her even tighter. She knows it has always been Brianna's dream to work at Frostborne corporations.
âYou still have time. Maybe part-time is not something you should be doing in Frostborne. Come on, you're not even done with school yetâ Riley tried to comfort her.
âYou know working part-time would increase my chances of securing a full time job there after schoolâ Brianna said, wiping off her tears. Riley nodded in agreement.
âYou can still be fully employed without the part-time benefitâ Riley said. Brianna sniffled.
âWhat's worse is that I already got a job at an eatery, but ignored it this morning for Frostborne's interview,â she said.
Riley opened her mouth to speak, but no words came out.
âKnow you'll be fine now, because your emotional support system is backkkkkkkk!!!!â Riley squealed.
Brianna couldn't stop herself from laughing.
Riley is indeed a ray of sunshine in her dark, boring life. She barely allowed anything to bother her. Riley always lived in the moment and whatever she does not get, she concludes that it wasn't hers to begin with.
Brianna admires her for this. Brianna was deep in thought, wishing she was as carefree as Riley when Riley called out.
âB, your phoneâ Riley said to her. She picked it up and it was an email notification, âMaybe the eatery owner wants to rantâ she said with a weak smile.
It was an email from Frostborne. Brianna couldn't believe her eyes.
âWhat's that?â Riley asked, moving closer to her.
âAn emailâ she paused, âFrom Frostborneâ Brianna added breathlessly. âThen open it,â Riley said.
"Dear Brianna Cooper,
We are pleased to announce to you thatâŚâ
âAhhhhhhâ Brianna screamed after reading half the content of the mail. She has been employed and asked to resume the following day.
âBut wait, how do I resume tomorrow when I barely have what to wear?â Brianna asked.
âThat will be sorted out tomorrow. Congratulations!!!â Riley replied
They resumed screaming and jumping on their beds again.

â NEW YORKâŚâDo you love her?â Rowan asked. Something shifted in Derek. He wasn't expecting that question. He was expecting Rowan to ask about something but not that.He turned to Rowan who had his eyes fixed on him.Truthfully, he didn't know if what he felt for Brianna could be classified as love. Of course, he cares about her and enjoys her company, that couldn't be love, but is that what love is about? He wondered He cared for Lisa too, though not as much as he does for Brianna, but he did. He gave her a lot of gifts, made sure she was comfortable, never lacked anything, took her out a few times and also enjoyed her company and it didn't feel like love. What could be so different about Brianna's case? Why would Rowan ask him that? What appeared different? He doesn't know how to love or rather what it means to love someone. He doesn't know how to feel when he's loving someone or what to do that he hasn't done for Lisa.Could it be that he loved Lisa too? No way! Derek knew whateve
â NEW YORKâŚBrianna and Riley were both discharged the following day.Brianna appeared a lot stable like nothing had happened, which was surprising because she felt she was going to die at that instant. The doctor's report states that she passed out due to shock and brain strain which was strange to Brianna because she's been resting a lot and has been well before the situation.Derek drove them home.âThank you, Derekâ Riley said to Derek as she sunk into her bed tiredly.âMy pleasure, even though I still don't know what happened between you twoâ he said, looking between Riley and Brianna.Riley was surprised that Brianna had kept her boyfriend in the dark all along and still didn't say a word so she just kept quiet too, not wanting to be the one to divulge.âAt least no one diedâ Riley said cheerfully insteadâSomeone lost consciousness, that's close to dying,â Derek argued, Brianna rolled her eyes.âI'm fine, you two. And Derek, thank you so much for everything. I'm fine, I promise,
â NEW YORKâŚDerek got to Rm. 215 and burst the door open with so much vigor. The nurse who was attending to Brianna shivered at the sound. She turned to face Derek, âWho areâŚâ she was about to ask when Derek ran to Brianna and hugged her, to the dismay of the nurse, âOhh! Who are you, please?â The nurse tried again Brianna laid still but laughed at the nurse's reaction to Derekâs hug. Derek turned to the nurse , âIâm her boyfriend. How is she?â He asked. The nurseâ eyes finally calmed down. She sighed in relief, âShe's in no danger, you may calm downâ she assured. Derek breathed out in relief too. How scared he was for her. This points to why the Alpha hates the idea of human marriage since they can barely protect themselves but at least she was only ill and anyone could fall sick.He sat on the bed, holding Brianna's hand, she tried to talk but he shushed her. He didn't want her straining, she needed to get enough rest. The nurse finished examining Brianna and nodded, âthere's no d
NEW YORKâŚ.Derek was in a meeting with a foreign investor whom he's been trying to get hold of for a long time. He was happy to finally have him show interest in Frostborne. It was basically for a partnership outside America.In-between the meeting, his phone rang, but he ignored it and paid attention to his investor. It rang again. He was sure he turned on the DND option, and the only person that could reach him even when it's on DND was Brianna. His mind snapped. His eyes widened at the realization and he brought out his phone from his pocket. It was indeed Brianna. He immediately felt dizzy, something wasn't right. Not that she doesnât call more than once or he doesn't miss her calls at all but this particular one felt odd.âGentlemen, please excuse meâ he said to his subordinates, and ran out. Rowan followed him out worriedly. It's unlike Derek to abandon a meeting to answer a call, no matter how important it seemed to be.Derek answered the call once he was out of the hall, âHel
â NEW YORKâŚâLondonâ Riley said and Brianna choked on her pizza, coughing violently.âOh my! Are you okay?â Riley asked and handed her water. Brianna gulped and tried to calm herself down.âWhat?!! London? What London?â She asked as she dropped the cup. At that point, Riley's eyes seemed to wonder a little, why's she so shocked? And how many Londons are there?âJust because..â Riley started, Brianna edged closer to her as if to remove the information from her bellyâJust because?â Brianna asked impatiently.âLondon is a nice place,â Riley said and paused as if looking for more details to give, âYes, just because London is a nice placeâ she said finally âOh my! Have you experienced the weather? Superp! I've always loved London thoughâ Riley added, trying to sound enthusiastic about the idea of moving to London all of a sudden. Brianna just looked at her eyes which appeared sad at this point but she's trying so hard to keep it normal. She was trying to hide her sadness so badly but fail
â NEW YORKâŚThe semester was going smoothly for Brianna. Her joy knew no boundaries as it was her very last semester as an undergraduate.âCan't wait to be done with school and face life squarely,â she said to Riley who didn't reply. She turned to her and Riley seemed to be staring at her phone in horror.Brianna walked to her bed, âare you okay?â She asked but Riley's eyes were still glued to her phone, she looked frozen.âRiley! Riley! Riley!â Brianna yelled at her, shaking her to make sure she heard her.Riley let her phone drop on her bed and hugged Brianna so tight that she could barely breathe. They stayed that way for a while.Brianna kept patting her back and at intervals, caressed her hair. Her parents used to do that to her whenever she was scared and Riley looked scared at the moment. After what seemed like forever, Riley let Brianna go. Her eyes were red, misty, puffy and she was sniffling badly. How was she able to cry on her shoulder without a sound? Brianna wondered.Bri
