Chapter 10 Tyler's Rules

"What are you trying to do, Jean?" Dorothy asked as soon as the maid left Jean's room. She looked at Jean with loathing. "How does firing Mrs. Jones benefit you?"

Jean was used to her mother's attitude toward her.

Calmly, she sat up and said, "Mom, I thought you had something important to talk to me about. Is this just about a thieving housekeeper? I didn't fire Mrs. Jones. She was the one who stole and broke Tyler's rules."

Oakside Villa had rules that were set by Tyler. Dorothy knew that, thanks to all the information Mrs. Jones had given her.

She stared at Jean's calm expression and gritted her teeth. "Couldn't you stop him?"

Jean's expression didn't change at all. She continued staring at Dorothy.

"You might not know this, Mom, but Tyler is seeing another woman he brought home from abroad. Plenty of people are out there waiting for my downfall. They want something they can use against me. Are you sure you want someone like Mrs. Jones around me, around Joyce?"

Dorothy frowned. She didn't know about the woman Tyler had brought back from abroad.

Jean looked serious, so she couldn't be lying. Dorothy began to scheme. "Mrs. Jones knows about the two of you. You shouldn't have been so drastic."

Jean was indifferent. "I know you will be able to shut her up," she said calmly. She knew the consequences of her actions.

Dorothy stared at her in shock. Jean's eyes were clear and calm. She wasn't the same naïve girl they had brought back from the countryside.

"You … You wouldn't fall in love with Tyler and take your sister's place, would you?" Dorothy asked cautiously.

All of a sudden, she felt as if Jean had changed. She used to do all she could to please her, but now, Dorothy could not figure her out at all.

Jean paused. She felt sad looking at how cautious Dorothy was.

"Did you think of that when you forced me to marry Tyler? You ordered Mrs. Jones to drug me so that I would have sex with him. Did you think you'd one day worry I would take everything that belonged to Joyce?"

Jean's questions shocked Dorothy, but her shock quickly turned into outrage.

"If you hadn't asked your sister to pick you up that day, she wouldn't have gotten into an accident. And you wouldn't even have the chance to get close to Tyler!"

Jean frowned. She wanted to refute it, but no words came out. After all, she felt guilty toward Joyce.

"Just go home," she said in the end. "I never wanted anything of Joyce's. I won't take her place."

Dorothy breathed a sigh of relief. However, her expression remained tense. "Remember, as soon as your sister recovers, you have to leave."

Jean nodded.

Dorothy took a breath and gave Jean one last cold glance before leaving her room.

When she opened the door, she saw Tyler standing outside.

Dorothy was shocked. She stammered, "Ty-Tyler! You … When did you come back?"
